The thing with Rutten, Porps and Van Berlo all playing yesterday means one thing - those that do have Otten in their squad atm will know 100% before lockout if Otten is in Neil Craigs plans for this season.

If the above are all named as well as Otten for rd 1, then he is a good shot at playing 22 games, especially if he performs, which he has been in the preseason.

Yeah I left him out because hes more than likely to miss round 1.

We could probably dismiss VB as well, 1 match in 4 weeks isn't an ideal preparation. Petrenko may slot in but only just going by the Adelaide board. Otten will be a good bench option then with injuries to come, i don't really care if he doesn't play this week. Thanks for your thoughts guys.

Foward line rookies looking quite thin now. Got Hentschel starting with Brown and Walker. However i dont think either walker and brown will have good cash and Hent is a bit meh considering he's comming bak after 2 years. What are ppls thoughts on fwrd rookies

Having the same dilemma. I think Hentschel has good job security, but i can't see him scoring very well early on. I think I will stick with him though because of his job security - I think Craig will give him a very good chance to prove himself again.

I think VB might play now, because hes naturally fit and i think Rutten is right to go. As for Symes and Porpz they might struggle to get up and play.

Otten i think replaces Symes ATM and showed in his last game of NAB against swans that he wont be moving out of the side too quickly.

I didnt understand what you were trying to say their BB?? If VB, Porpz, Rutten and Otten are named than hes in their plans for year 09. Well they play on Sunday if i remember right. So they may name a 25 with him as a possible emergency again.

Crows play on Saturday afternoon against Collingwood at the G. Why is Porplyzia less of a chance to play considering vB hasn't played yet and Porps played on the weekend?

They play on Saturday, hence at 5pm on Thursday if you see Rutten, Porps, Van Berlo and Otten in the 22, then you will know if Otten's a shot at playing 22 games this year.

I think he will be best 22 fairly soon. He has killed it in Bassett' old role, allowing Stevens to play up forward more. Im confident he will hold his spot.

I thought he was more of a runnjing half back flank type player. At the end of the day NO Symes, NO Bassset has worked out perfectly for him to get a spot in the side. 24 posses against swans is very impressive especially when sides fielded their best possible sides at the time.

Looks a good scorer and i think could be just as good as Mackay.

Rookies in my team are

Backs - Hill (Suban, Petrenko)
Mids - Rich, Otten (Beams, Anthony)
Rucks - (Spencer, Jacobs)
Forwards - Yarran (Brown, Walker)

underline = emergencies

So what do u guys think my 0 chances are? Starting 2 in the mids is a bit scary but even if i cop 2 0's before i can upgrade i won't be disappointed.

Well, use my team as a comparison if you like.
I am only playing 2 rookies and they are both in the midfield.

If you are going to play 2 rookies in the midfield though, make sure your other 4 players are durable i.e K.Cornes.

As a general rule, try not to have S.Butler, H.Skipworth and the like in your midfield if you are playing 2 rookies.

Got to agree with this. I'm now considering not having Hill in the backline and playing Otten in the midfield instead as the 2nd mid rookie on the field, but I have no rookies in the backs, and 1 in the forwards (plus Hentschel). I've opted to go with Ablett, Swan, Kornes and Gibbs as my main mids as I believe for the most part, they are durable.

Actually have the money to upgrade Otten to Hill in the mids if I go from Enright to Bock, but will have to wait on that. But my main intention is to try and not start a rookie back.

Well the rest of my mids looks like this

Ablett, Kornes, Dalziell, J.Selwood.
So they're all premium, and i'm back them to play 22. :)

One more young ruckman to consider:

RICHMOND’S No.2 ruck spot for the season opener has been snared by 18-year-old elevated rookie Andrew Browne.

Browne is a 205cm ruckman from Mansfield in country Victoria who came to the Tigers as a project player, but has taken just the last two NAB Challenge games to set himself up for the debut of a lifetime.

...

Browne said his elevation and selection came as a shock.

“I said to some of the coaches that I wasn’t even expecting to play NAB Cup three or four weeks ago, so to have been elevated and to actually be playing round one with the seniors is just incredible.

do people think it is a viable strategy to have suban and broughton as backs ressies, while also having hill as the 7th back?
i cant see at least two of them playing each week, though this could limit the amount of cash they can make.

not sold on petrenko's job security and suban looks the best prospect, so mmm

what do you think?

Wow 4 starting rookies, you must have lots of premiums. That is a completely different strategy to me. I am not starting one rookie on the ground. It just seems like such a big risk to me, when they have never played a game before.

By the way... am I crazy for not having Ziebell? And how good is this Liam Anthony bloke, I like the fact that he is 21. Havnt seen any kangaroos games yet...
