Got a lot of learning to do if he wants to perfect his craft. He knows how to mark/lead/kick....but its bloody hard to teach people how to utilise their body in a contest. Most of that stuff is natural.

Good opportunity to get Carey back as part time forward coach to teach Daw
If its good enough for Hawkins and Cloke and Hogan yet we wont even call the GOAT to come down and spend ****in half an hour with our forwards.Good opportunity to get Carey back as part time forward coach to teach Daw

Not sure if having Carey down at our club suits our community narrative. Bit hard to say you're for positive social change then hire a woman beater. If its good enough for Hawkins and Cloke and Hogan yet we wont even call the GOAT to come down and spend ****in half an hour with our forwards.
Clubs f***ing chip on its shoulder is perplexing

Leading patterns is the key, that is where goals come from him. If he can find space and run at the ball, bingo. Even if you put someone in front of him, he has the leap to get over them. Work on the body next year
Honestly dont know if you are being serious or not.Not sure if having Carey down at our club suits our community narrative. Bit hard to say you're for positive social change then hire a woman beater.
He knows how and when to lead, the problem is, the ball has to be delivered right to his chest otherwise he isn't in the contest. If there is a hint of body contact he usually gets pushed under the ball. If the ball comes in high he just gets moved out of the contest way too easily, its even a problem in the VFL against sub-standard defenders.
Disagree. Defenders body him when he has to adjust to a poor kick, just like any other forward. If it is out in front he will take it. That was what was great about Ben this year, the amount of times he lead to the ball and had it land about arms length made him impossible to beat.
That’s the big reason he needs to learn to lead, he will be hard to stop moving at the ball

Dead right. Forwards can look pretty crap if they are getting bad delivery.I'm inclined towards your opinion on this - although obviously forwards need to be good at creating their own space to lead into. I do feel at times that Maj covers ground quicker than anticipated and we need to get better at leading him to the ball. He's a much better chance of marking if he has to struggle to make up an extra 5m rather than stop and prop. He's also not the kind of bloke you want running into your back at full pace to mark over you. If we're going to have him make it we need to get better at making him a weapon.
Doesn't even need to be at the club for christ sake. Go to a local park. Carey's football bootcamp. If its good enough for Hawkins and Cloke and Hogan yet we wont even call the GOAT to come down and spend ****in half an hour with our forwards.

JZ is one of the few that can read the fall of the ball, plant his feet and use the body against similar opponents and we already have Brown, Waite and Wood who will take the mark when given a run at it.
It is not like our forwards and mids are inclined to take the body first and then chip the ball to open space or the fat side.
Given all that it is almost as if JZ should be the deepest forward.
Not sure where Maj fits.

Sorry Maj - you are a ruckman first, forward second and you must be trained that way.https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/no...t/news-story/fda094fa8642f3a8bd8b8174ecfe027f
North Melbourne’s Majak Daw hoping to perfect his forward craft
MAJAK Daw is keen to perfect his craft as a forward this summer, saying he does not want to be limited to playing solely in the ruck as he enters his eighth season at North Melbourne.
Daw played only seven games last season, but enjoyed his best outing as a lone ruckman in a Round 18 clash with Essendon where he had 14 disposals, 33 hit-outs and took four marks.
It led to calls for Kangaroos coach Brad Scott to trial Daw as a permanent ruck, having initially been behind the likes of Todd Goldstein and Braydon Preuss in the pecking order.
But Daw, who has kicked 30 goals from 32 games across his career, doesn’t want to be locked into one position in 2018 and is instead hoping to feature in multiple roles.
“I feel comfortable playing as a ruckman, but I like kicking goals,” Daw told foxfooty.com.au at the launch of MindMax’s ‘Flick Footy’ game.
“The challenge for me going forward is to really get that balance right. I really want to play well as a forward and then be able to go into the ruck and pinch-hit in there.
“It’s a unique position. There aren’t many players who can do that role well. It’s challenging, because you’ve got to be able to play both positions well.”
Daw battled a series of injury issues across the last pre-season, hampering his start to the campaign and not allowing him to gel with the club’s forwards group.
However, the 26-year-old is hoping to finally get his body right this summer in an effort to start the 2018 season with a bang.
“I’m just looking forward to training with the other forwards,” Daw said.
“I missed out on a fair chunk of training last pre-season, so I missed getting to know how the other forwards operate and getting a better understanding of their leading patterns.
“I also want to work on marking contests and get better at that.”
Having not played more than nine games in any season throughout his career, Daw is hopeful the next campaign can be a breakout one in his career.
And he believes his ability to play in multiple positions across the field will give him a greater chance of earning an extended run in the senior side.
“It can be frustrating, but at the same time there is an opportunity there,” Daw said.
“If I can become really good at those positions, there’s no reason why I couldn’t play week in, week out.
“It’s tough to be consistent, but I’m always looking to try and improve in areas of my game to be a consistent player.
“If I play well one week, I want to back it up the next week. That’s the challenge for me, to be consistent and to get my body right.”
Daw was speaking at the launch of ‘Flick Footy’, a MindMax game designed to help reduce stress and help the 3 million Australians currently living with depression and anxiety.
2018 is all about finding out about players and the most dangerous ive seen Daw was when he played on ball (ruck rover). His physical presence in the centre square contest with Preuss and Cunners could be brutal. Tell him to be defensive so he tackles and chases. Unleash the Behemoth.
I have been saying for three years now kick it in front of him and make him run to it, If I can see why can't every player and coach must be able to, we have to stop trying to make him what he isn't and get him to play to his strengths.

Wish he'd gone to Utah.
