1 year after getting rid of tarrant for medhurst and pick 8(ben reid). was it the correct decision, or should of we done the Grahem Polak option.

No, I'm more than happy with Medhurst alone than I ever was with Tarrant, and then when you add Reid into it the equation we really screwed Freo over with that deal!

I think it turned out to be a positive for both clubs. Tarrant seems to be thriving under the fact that he isn't the main forward at Freo, and that he can roam around at CHF.

Collingwood have added a very talented player in Reid to their list who will replace Tarrant's gap in future. Medhurst is just another + to it all.

Edit: Oops.

Fremantle get a player who is sh*t and cannot stay out of trouble and collingwood gets two players, 1 young gun forward and another gun forward player who has just got the monkey of the back.
Ummmmm.....yeah i think we kinda just screwed freo ova

hahahahaah suffer!:D

It's amazing how he has no pressure at west coast... I wonder how he feels at FREO

Polak was always going to richmond we just managed to upgrade the pick by getting him their via the tarrant deal. Polak is a loose defender who plays on no opponet or a third foward whilst undeveloped or undersized players take the main fowards its a joke. Reid is a sublime Talent and I have no doubt the club made the right choice for our future in this deal.

yeah i think it was the right move. medders has done alright, reid has shown plenty of promise and brown i havent seen play yet. plus tarrant was involved in a nightclub scuffle. would of been massive news if he was still with our club. great move trading him.

we have done brilliantly. not trying to be too biased, but i think medhurst had a better year than tarrant, let alone reidy.

its great to see medders look like he wants to be out on the ground. tazza looked as if hed rather be flashing his behind to females or fighting some loose con in a random casino somewhere!

I still think Medhurst is a bit ******* but he knows how to kick goals and there is evidence that he is learning to improve his weaknesses in other areas.

Coming along nicely. Tarrant was nice insofar as he was a lot like cloke, got a lot of the ball took marks but we have midfielders for that. We need accurate goalkickers.

If reid is even half what tarrant was or more to the point hopefully is more like Jonothan Brown then we've won by a wide margin.

Chris Tarrant didn't live up to the expectations held on him. He was pretty good but old habits die hard. If he stayed out of trouble last year who knows where he might have been this year.

Paul Medhurst has improved. He's become a more team-orientated player this year and that's a bonus for us.

Ben Reid is young and still developing, got a great footy brain and he works as hard as anybody to get a kick. He's going to be a very good footballer for Collingwood.

But we will know more in three years time.

Collingwood definitely won this trade thus far.

Taz kicked 33 goals in 21 matches this season and was very good as the secondary key forward to Pavlich.

In comparision Medhurst kicked 24 goals in 17 matches. The big key with Medhurst is that he thrives on the big occassion and so often kicked big goals when they were needed which is a skill that Taz consistently failed at in his time with Collingwood.

What makes the Pies a clear winner is the fact that Taz leaving allowed Travis Cloke to be the lead up CHF and he thrived in the role. Add to this the fact that Ben Reid looks to have a very bright future, and it is obvious that Collingwood have won out to this point.

Tarrant needed a change, Medhurst needed a change and the Pick was a fair compensation for the difference between Tarrant and Medhurst.

Both clubs will probably be happy in a few years, unless of course Reid turns into a superstar (no guarantee Freo would have picked him at #8 though)

Tarrant will be very good in 08 imo.

Was a great trade. Any way we could move Taz on was worth it. He just has not performed consistently enough for us, and having him and Rocca in our forward line together was never a good option.

Freo perspective.

Medhurst had to go anyway. Simply put...Farmer is 3 times the player that Medhurst is. Hindsight is a great thing though when you look @ Farmer's problems off the field.

Re Ben Reid...he was Pick 8....Freo gave Pick 10 to Richmond (Jack Riewoldt) & then we gave u the upgraded pick. So did we lose Pick 8 or Pick 10? Who knows? Freo was banking on the fact that we had enough KPP's to go for a Premiership. It ended up that we did have the KPP's...BUT unfortunately our midfield is pathetic & the season suffered as a consequence. I don't think Freo would have picked a KPP had it have kept the pick 10.

Now re Taz.....you have to remember that he was playing with 1 good leg playing for you guys....we fixed the problem pre-season, but he ended up doing about a 2 week pre-season because of it. He still managed 21 games for the year. His 1st half of the year was very good....his last 6 games were average & his last 3 games were terrible. He played pre-dominantly switching with Pavlich between FF & CHF. He wasn't chosen for this role....Freo were hoping of playing him around CHF, with long leads to the wing. A full pre-season & 2008 should see a much stronger return to his form. A return of around 40 goals will be good in 2008...but he should be vying with pavlich for most marks @ Freo for 2008.

The jury is still out IMO.

BTW congrats Medders for a strong ending to the year. The fact is/was...he was always a good skillful player, but he just couldn't play well when Farmer was there. He is a confidence player. Remember he did kick 9 goals in a game once against Brisbane in 2003! I do remember him though last season playing for Claremont & he was probably the worst player I've ever seen play Wafl footy....such is the Medders way....hopefully his confidence remains for the Pies.

BTW I hope u get Judd...it will pi55 off all the WCE supporters off over here...BIG TIME

Uh duh...

The play of Paul Medhurst + Removing Tarrant and his bad influence from the team, allowing Travis Cloke to blossom >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Anything Tarrant ever did for us.

Ben Reid is literally a bonus. Our forward line got better by removing Tarrant from it, so anything Ben Reid does in the future is pure gravy. Medhurst also has a much better finals record than Chris Tarrant now.

The Goldsack pick swap is irrelevant, because if we kept 60, we would still have taken Goldie - He wasn't on anyone else's radar.

I don't buy this - Medhurst has managed to fit in perfectly with our forward line with both Didak and Davis running around. Jeff Farmer and Medhurst COULD play together, but Connolly was never a good enough coach to figure that out.

Pick #10 was our pick - That never changed hands.

You sent Pick #13 + Graham Polak to Richmond, and received Pick #8 in return, which you in turn sent to us with Paul Medhurst in return for Chris Tarrant.

As part of the swap, we also traded pick #60 for pick #63 with Richmond.

To be fair, he was probably our best player behind Bucks in 2003 when we went into a Grand Final as favourites, so perhaps you are having a bit of a dig due to 'former player syndrome'.

When Taz was fit, he was very very good for us. Then in 2005 when everyone else went off to hospital to have their niggles sorted, he continued on one leg and is still suffering the consequences.

Lets just have some clarity when looking in the rear view mirror for a second, Tarrant was a very important player when we were challenging for the flag.

Tarrant is the most frustrating player in the AFL when he is on your team. He can play, but is the worst set shot full forward in the AFL.. extremely happy of what we got for him! :D
