Heppell, Merrett, Zaka, Hurley, TBC - they were all well off the paceI don’t think the seniors players are playing any better, just the support players are better.
Ridley was always an excellent talent. He should have gone top 10 in that draft imo. There is a bit of both. Consistency to play 85% plus game time week in and week out and the fact that Redman is doing well and Ridley had the better form.
I watched that draft closely too, first time I've ever taken any interest in the draft. As much as I want him to succeed though I'd rather he earned his spot in the 22, as McGrath, Ridley, Redman, Parish and Guelfi have (all of them are under 22). He's a bit of a slow burn though, talls usually are and he is slower than most given the off-field challenges he has had to face even to get this far.Hey guys, first time posting long long time reader so don't be too harsh. I was immensely disappointed by him being left out of the team. I understand we have to do whats best for the team, but I like many other on this forum followed his draft closely due to the fact that we were bound to get high picks and although I know for a variety of reasons he hasn't always put his best foot forward, I would have hoped we would attempt to give him the best AFL exposure as possible. First to develop him as best we can and second to get the best value we can when his contract ends at the end of this season. If he has an off and on year in our AFL team, good luck justifying to Port or Adelaide we deserve more than a 3rd round pick for someone I believe could be a star of the competition.
I'm sure he'll get his chance if he doesn't leave. Chook is 30 now, and Francis isn't running out games as well as he might. By the time Hooker/Hurley are ready to retire Francis should be about ready to take one of those spots. Can only hope Zerk is good enough by then to take the other at this point, since without Hooker and Hartley our tallest KPDs are 195 (Zerk) and 192/193 (everyone else). There's only so much a 193cm defender can do when they're faced with a two metre tall key forward.Competently agree Lore, we shouldn't be giving him games, but that being said I didn't see much that warranted his omission after the first few rounds of footy. You could argue team selection and that would be fair, especially with hooker coming back into the lineup, but regardless its disheartening given his immense potential.
Cats defenders will run off him and exploit lack of endurance. He’ll be done in first half.
The key difference between Brown and Francis is that Brown would always be the link up player between the flanks and did it with pretty good success. He didn’t set the world on fire but was more than serviceable. Francis will be cooked after the 1st quarter if he were to play this role, hence Stewart dominating this match up if it were to happen.Couldn’t be any less a liability than Brown last week & atleast gives us a weapon in the air & keeps T Stewart honest who would’ve eaten Brown for breakfast.

And really complicate Geelong's plan?I think we should play him forward, we need a replacement for Brown and he's fit and we need to keep getting games into him. We saw his marking ability towards the end of last year let's play him.
When your learning your craft as a defender what better way is there than to play forward against the best defenders in the comp (as in least points against so far this year).
If that's the case, this is such a stupendously Essendon move
