Won’t happen.
Donny unfortunately won’t get there.
Hope A-A-ron gets there (has shown glimpses and has been screwed around by crappy development of players at this club)

Francis' best is good, but doesn't look like he'll ever build a big enough tank to do it for long enough, and he'll likely be a 3rd tall and not hold down CHB.

I wish him well if he finds a new home, plenty of sides would be able to slot him in alongside a mature KPD or two.

I had high hopes for Francis but wish him well wherever he goes. Hopefully he gets settled into an intercepting defender role and makes something of his career. Any pick inside the 3rd round should suffice for us, no need to play extended games on this one.

Had a few small runs of good form but rarely looked fit enough or skilled enough to become anything close to justifying a high first round pick. It's the type of pick that really kills a developing team. It's not often you get two top 10 picks and to completely waste one is just devastating.

I wouldn't be devastated. I don't think it's quite something that "kills" a developing team. It's one player and the reality is, many Top 10 picks are busts. Just the nature of drafting 18yos.

To develop a contender you really need to be recruiting and putting it together over at least 5-6 years, minimum, at which pace you'll turn over most of your list. There's be mistakes along the way. Look no further than some of the absolute duds Hawthorn drafted in the Top 10 throughout the 2000s. The crucial bit of course is you get some others very, very right.

We have super high hopes for every one but in the end plenty don't work out. Get used to it, odds are at least one of Cox or Reid will be a bust. That's how it works (I've left Perkins out of that because he already looks very very good).

Needs a fresh start
Although I’ll be pretty upset if a club puts him in the intercepting role and he dominates, while we messed around with him for 5 years.
Did we mess around with him ?
The first three seasons where mental health and injury.
2019 he had a solid season playing 17 games.
2020 only 8 games due to injury.
2021 he played 15 games but missed 4 weeks mid season with mental health.
I know people rate him as a defender and not a forward but the fact the club rated him enough to put him in the side as a forward says a bit. If they stuffed him around they could have just left him playing back in the VFL.
The fact is he became an almost player. If he hung onto those marks he would have had a good game. If he kicked those goals it would have been a decent game.

flippancy aside, i can't recall a kid i enjoyed watching more.
i was stoked he was projected at our pick and when we got him. Thought Goddard would give him the apprenticeship and we'd have an elite Rance/Goddard hybrid coming through

sometimes it's just doesn't work.
