Wish nothing but the best for Angus and would hate to see a great career end like this.

As for Maynard, jumping up for the smother is one thing but bracing yourself as soon as you realise you won’t touch the ball and concussing the kicker in that same motion. It’s been deemed 3 weeks and I don’t disagree at all.

Sadly he's very much not fine.

It's probably 50/50 whether he plays again. I'm sure that's burning away at him right now. Poor bastard. Can a bloke with his history even make the decision these days? Does the club or AFL get involved? Or is it purely based on the doc and how Brayshaw feels? I know he's had a history, but is it anywhere near as bad as McCartins?

Thing working in his favour is he hasn't had a concussion for 6-ish years.

Fully depends on how he recovers. He said he knew pretty clearly when he wasn't right to play in the past with the head-knocks. Hopefully he makes a swift, full recovery. But if he has lingering symptoms then I wouldn't begrudge him hanging up the boots as he's a smart fella and would want a fulfilling life after footy.

Gus has a solid career after football to think about, let alone general well-being, he’s a smart guy. Really hoping he can recover quickly and come back and play.

But when you read stuff like this, if he hangs them up, totally understandable.

Yeah wow. That's horrible. When you see vision of McCartin as well, you gotta consider if it's worth it. Angus would walk into a media gig I reckon. He's done a great job in proving a lot of us wrong this year as well. Horrid start to the year, but got better and better and became arguably our most reliable midfielder in the 2nd half of the season. Wish him all the best..

Hope Brayshaw is ok.

I don't feel that Maynard did what he did intentionally but it should be classified as careless and get a week or two.
I don't think it was intentional when he first thought to jump in the air. But we all analyze our thinking, during the flight into the path of another where a collision is eminent.
He shows he did this when he put his hands close together, half way thru the smother attempt.
What he did not do was to reach for Brayshaws shoulders... hands outstretched to buffer the collision... HE puts his hands together and just infront of himself; without thought for the opponent he was about to collide into. And turned his body, pointing R shoulder first towards Brayshaw's head.

This is the fearful and careless act that caused so much damage. Knocking Brayshaw into Lah-Lah land.

An act of aggression without the corresponding care for the other party.

In F1 recently, Daniel Ricciardo put his car into the wall, deliberately; instead of continuing round the corner and an inevitable crash into Oscar Piastri, 'T' boning his car.
And a likely severe injury, or worse for Piastri.

Maynard alone, is totally responsible for the severe outcome of his actions, to Brayshaw's concussion.

The more I watch the incident on shows the more im convinced he should get 3-4 weeks. His arms are out in front of him as he goes to smother, they are right there to brace himself against a collision, but he pulls them in to bump. Its not a natural reaction at all, if youre falling towards the ground you dont hip and shoulder it, you break your fall with your hands.

I find tribunal chat exhausting but I agree. He will get off though, no chance AFL whacks him.

I'd honestly be surprised if he played again. Especially when you look at what happened with Membrey this week. Just seems like this is bigger than footy.

I think the AFL will absolutely suspend him. Will be up to the appeals tribunal

He's also engaged to Danielle Frawley, daughter of Danny Frawley. What happened to spud will no doubt be on his mind.

Wow didn’t know that, will have some bearing on his decision making.

Hope you all don’t mind the intrusion, I was sickened by the incident and wish Angus all the best.

Great player and plays the game in an admirable manner.

Wishing him and his family all the best, and I certainly hope that he gets very positive news from specialists.

His health is of course of prime importance, but I hope he isn’t finished playing.

As for Maynard I really hope he has the book thrown at him, he had an option to brace himself and still use his hands to cushion the impact, chose not to and had no concern for Angus, failed his duty of care.

8+ weeks I hope, will probs get off though.

Really hope he's doing OK. The doorstepping journalism is pretty gross though...as is the pandering to Collingwood and poor, fair player Maynard in the media.

Retrospectively, I'm also pretty miffed at Dangerfield's commentary on the weekend. AFLPA President at a time where concussion is at the forefront of player safety and policy, and all he can muster is coming up with defenses for Maynard.

The more I look at it, the more it's an obvious call. It's been said already, but if Maynard is attempting that smother against a teammate at training, is he putting his hands out to minimise the impact as a reasonable person would do, or is he tucking his arm in and turning his shoulder towards the player's head?

And if I see one more person make the argument that Brayshaw 'should have done more to protect himself', I'm going to lose it.
