I can concur . Chol was not great today and has not been great in the VFL. He is a bit of a plodder.
Fair to say I haven’t seen much of his VFL work but I’ve always considered him pretty serviceable at league level. That being said if he’s disinterest and unloved at GC I’d still be happy to get him for nothing. He simply cannot be worse than the Weid can he?

He probably could not but given Weid has a contract we will most likely stick with him . Every club needs a whipping boy.

I thought he played okay. Keep him in, I say.

I think people are being a tad harsh on Weid..

Yeah, he was poor but lets be honest, he isn't a gun KPF in perfect conditions, when it rained, it was never going to go well for him.

Do I keep him in for next week? no, I wouldn't. Simply needs to get the confidence back to kick goals that an AFL standard KPF should kick

No one tries to miss on purpose BUT his body language when he misses is very bad and quite telling from a psychological point of view.
Yes you can almost hear his brain saying "Oh no it's happening again"

Sometimes with forwards I reckon they are so scared of missing set shots that they drop marks.

Not deliberately drop them, but the lack of kicking confidence infects other parts of their game.

Why is Menzie flying for the mark in the first series... not playing the percentages there as a smaller player....

Then next up you have Phillips and Weideman taking each other out.

We're really not a smart football side are we?
I wondered the same.

The other thing I just noticed, looking at it again, is that I'm pretty sure Weid managed to tap it away even with his eyes closed (why do they all take marks with their eyes closed??) all the other fists nearby would've sent the ball in some other direction if they'd made contact.

I don't think he is dropped by Scott, nor do I think he should be. He's had three games now with 2MP? He actually looked like starting to get something resembling touch in second half, miss at goal aside. Needs time for the forwards to gel. Rainy night against a top 2 side, with a 4th rounder we bought for a packet of chips. Scott will keep playing him to learn how the structure works now he has 2MP back in the side. This year is not about making finals, it's about figuring out strengths and weaknesses of players and not changing too much. Also, he's never had a clear run his entire career. He finally starts getting a bit of touch then put into the magoos? That would be soul destroying and likely kill his confidence even more.

Chol doesn’t have a competitive bone in his body. Plays well when it’s on his terms. Won’t crash packs and make a contest though

Flipper did that in the Blues game as well.
I guess he also has to adjust to the four tall structure as well (KPF+ruck obvs), rather than having a tall forward somewhere up the ground trying to be a marking target or whatever, and having either himself or Draper as the only beanpole in the goal square.

It is certainly a work in progress with all the tall forwards and rucks. Lets face it none of the combos have really played a lot of footy with each other.

So what you’re saying is we needed at least as many talls as we had, not less, to stretch Port’s defence?

Is Flip threatening enough to do that or do we need Draper + Wright in the forward line against that sort of opponent? At that point I guess Weid and Flip fight for the last spot.

Or perhaps we might’ve tried three talls in the forward line + 1 ruck, if we’d ever had the opportunity 🤔 Wright Weid and Hunter with Draper in the middle is intriguing… might just get in each others way.
Yeah, I think they want the two towers up front, when Draper was fit he had games where he spent a lot of time forward. I think Flip also probably played a lot forward when they were both fit when previously he'd be on the bench.

Scott didn't seem to favour Jones as part of that tower combo, and Bryan hasn't pushed himself ahead of Weid in the thinking either.

I think have worked it out! Needs to keep his eyes open when he is trying to take a mark so that he can see the football.
They all seem to do that 😝 I guess having rain falling in your eyes, hands waving around your face trying to gouge them out, and a ball about to smack you in the nose would make you want to close them... but yeah. For a club with something of a marking problem you'd think they'd try to keep their eyes open in the attempt.

Hey guys.

Does Sam Weideman have Tom Cutler's eggs?
