Best way to describe him Very good VFL player borderline AFL player decent injury cover.
Like Young who lacks in areas for the top level so does Miller.

Was a bit bemused when we took a kpd at pick 21 but when you look at the depth we have, you have to ask are they good enough going forward. Atm Young Miller and Blight are depth imo and replaceable.

We now have Balta Gibcus and Trainor of quality. The latter if he shows enough i would be playing straight away.
Then we have Blight who has only been there half a season and should get better. But he also lacks in a few areas like Young and Miller, but needs to be given a decent chance rounding out the depth.
Atm the last three imo should be backup in case one of the other three get injured.
If any of them can force the first three out then good for us and them.

We now go in search of a long term Broad 31yo replacement maybe that is Brown, A long term Vlastuin 31yo replacement and we need to replace Rioli who we did not replace maybe Smith.
In this one of Bo Allan, Harrison Oliver, Toby Travaglia and angus Clarke would have fit us to a tee going forward.

Gibcus? Just passable Debut year. With Tarrant AND Balta. Injury f**ed for two years. Game vs the Suns King kicked 5. Huge question marks over the kid.
Gotta laugh at this. We got 18 games out of Gibcus first year for a skinny first year tall that was more than expected.

Yep he got a few footy lessons in his first year what did you expect from a skinny first year player.
He had some damn real promising games, he had some okay ones along with some poor ones.
In nearly all, he showed why we drafted him. His agility, movement across the ground his fantastic leap his ability to read the play and intercept his marking, every thing about him said top 10 pick that just needs games to develop.

Then preseason 2023 and his first injury that keeps him out for the whole year.
Come round 1 2024 he gets 5 kicked against him that is if he was responsible for all 5.
Big deal what were your expectations. Mine was just to see him get thru the game unscathed.

One game later more injury another lost season.

So far its not about the games he has played. He has shown right from the outset that he has all the attributes to be a top quality kpd. The only concern has been getting him on the park thus getting experience into him.
With games will come consistency and i think domination of opponents.
The only way to find that out is if he can stay injury free.
I have no doubt we have a quality player on our hands.

Keep sticking it up the haters Ben. Had a fantastic season once given the opportunity which he should have been given from opening round, is way ahead of Young as he can kick the footy

Can’t believe they gave him the sacred #12

Doesn’t deserve it imo
It’s the timing that’s weird for me as well
Blokes been on the list since the 2017 draft so this will be his 8th year at the club

Why now have they decided to finally give him an upgrade?
His first half of 24’ was really good but he finished the year in terrible form

Maybe it was the first time he asked for it? I'd also argue it was the first season where he cemented a spot in the best 22.

Now I know how my Mrs feels when she’s ranting and raving about something and I respond to her with reason

Heart in mouth stuff everytime he gets caught out one v one. Gets caught out too often when deciding the time to go or stay.
Another bug bear he plays like tarzan rarley, too often he looks like Jane. It makes you ask the question does he have the mongrel and intensity for the game.

Does most other things well. imo too often he continues to barely be an AFL level player

Yeah he did but he was still horrible the 2nd half of the year
Who wasn't though?

I've been one of Ben's biggest critics, but he showed he was a legit AFL footballer for the first time this year IMO. He has improved every season. As you said his 2nd half was gross, but his first half was excellent.

Happy to start him at FB in r1 and I reckon he will hold his spot.

Playing full back for the worst team in the comp with the ball coming in with no pressure isn’t an easy gig.

Yeah agree
Well let’s just hope wearing the #12 improves his confidence and output

Nope >

Surprising stat to some degree. Maybe im not giving him enough credit in this.
Still its heart in mouth stuff with him when he is beaten he is beaten badly and is poor. Maybe its this that leaves the negative impression who knows.

Its not just his one v ones though. How often has he not got to a contest getting caught in the middle.

Imo if Gibcus is fit and stays fit then Miller will struggle for a game. Your playing Gibbo and Balta in front of him for all sorts of reasons.

Like others i thought he was decent first half of the year but he was god awful after with soft efforts and indecision that left you shaking your head. It was as if he just reverted back to his norm.

Any way im sort of asking how much more upside is to be had? he is now entering year 9 and will be 26 next year. I suppose when you look at a career like Liam Jones and others who blossomed late as defenders there is hope he does have the body pace and skill for it.

We'll be going alright if Miller is depth. Gibcus will hopefully get an extended run in the VFL before he returns.

1v1 loss % is the most bogus stat going around because what needs to happen is too specific. you could get out marked in a 2v1 or a contest where others are around and it wont count as a loss. you can start in a 1v1 and your opp beats you on a lead but they dont count it as a loss because its deemed an uncontested mark.

Correct, he got taken apart against west coast about 5 times but apparently
Didn’t lose a 1v1. I don’t mind Ben but agree with moppey, I see him get beaten all too easily at times. Hopefully he’s still just learning the caper of a KPD and will improve
