Hes still a very good one on one defender and a strong mark, he wasn't well tonight and in hindsight that was a bad move, but we were kind of desperate because we needed our tallest to combat Cox and Grundy potentially going forward.
That's true but it comes down to list management and this is where RFC have failed, having limited talls has hurt us.

Wouldn't have made much difference , the whole team was flat ! Saints game all over from last year

Gee some harsh calls on Dave here.

Lot of people reckon the reason Rance looks even better than he is, is because of Dave and Grimes. Rock solid.

We knew he was sick tonight. Certainly not at his best. Would it have made a difference to the result? Probably not. Too many flat all over the park.

If he marks that ball in the final quarter and goals though... we were home.

With Garthwaite growing Dave shouldn’t be an automatic start up in 2019. He was average in a lot of games this year , but he did carry a lot of niggles into games. Maybe he was poorly managed by us so that we could have a stable back six. Either way I would prefer Garthwaite long term bc of his flexibility mobility and leap.

Nah i think he still is at this stage. Although i would like garthwaite to have an opportunity. Our club is in a really good position when we are finding it hard to bring players in but it also means if we arent carful we will los players. Uncharted territory for the tigers.

Lot of harsh comments. Was on a drip in hospital during the lead up to the game. Shouldn’t have played

Has actually been sensational last couple of years which has allowed our other defenders to play as well as they have. Just MO

People way too harsh. He's been great this year, people were talking about him being in the AA40 squad at times during the year.

He was stiff to miss the AA team; I guess they didnt want nine richmond players in it

had a very good two season; obviously the last game not so much

The vibe with Astbury seems pretty low currently; do you guys think he will sign a long term deal with Richmond? How will his 2019 be

He turns 28 in Feb, I would probably sign him on until 2021 if hes not already. In 2022 he will be 31, and worth a reassessment as by then he may have declined a bit physically and might not be best 22. I think 2022 will be his last year.

I would like nothing more than to see both Balta and Garthwaite in the team. That means someone has to miss out and one of them would be Astbury.
Astbury is a servicable player but sheesh he has his limitations.

I wonder if his teammates share that assessment...
You asked a question i answered it correctly imo. I really dont care what his teammates think they are bound to be more prejudiced than the supporters.

I dont need his MATES to tell me how good he is thats a given. I can actually see well enough for myself without relying on others opinions.

Opinions eh like a/holes we all have em including team mates.

David Astbury was a bee's D!q away from being AA in 2018

Give credit to the bloke who plays AFL football for the best team in the league and is a walk up start , There would be lucky to be more than a handful of genuine KPD in the league much better. He lacks a little agility and pace but has learned to work around this and cement his spot.

Even Alex Rance has some deficiencies

slow and has the turning circle of a truck. It limits what type of talls he can play on.He does a lot of things to a decent standard but he doesnt have one outstanding attribute imo. That will do for starters.
I think he has upped his mobility and speed quite a bit since coming off those injury years, which did give him the truck turning circle as you say. When playing well which he has done the last two years, his ability to read the play and intercept mark or make the spoil has been invaluable. There is no way that Balta or Garthwaite will have anywhere near that ability this coming season. Down the track though, and even at times this season I agree they need to be played.
