Sure, he could do it. But why would you destabilise the forward line set-up?

Happy to see him thrown in every now and then, but there are plenty of other options you would think to go through the middle that have less of a negative structural impact on the team. Who else would play his role up forward to a satisfactory standard?

In my mind, it's changing a good forward (Crameri) and a good midfielder (Zaka? or whoever else) into a decent midfielder and probably an average/decent forward (assuming you chuck a mid up front in Crameri's place). Why choose the overall weaker outcome?

If the net result is worse than if they played where they already are, probably ought not be altered.

Most teams don't have a solid match-up for him - he's too quick for the bigs, too strong for the smalls - I think he's doing wonderfully where he is.

Getting running power into our forwards doesn't mean that they'll be playing on the ball. What it means is that our whole team will be able to work back to help out with defence, run hard to provide options in front of the ball and work hard inside F50 to harass opposition defenders. Hopefully in the process of this sort of running the occasional defender can be burnt off, providing easy options for our mids to kick to. On top of that if one of our forwards can blow away one of their defenders then the rest of their defenders are having to work hard to cover for him, which also leads to more free players forward of the ball.

It would be nice to finally see the bombers pull away easily in the last quarter after a tight tussle in the first three quarters, against a quality opponent, not an expansion team full of boys under 21!!!

My proffered forward set up at this stage would be:

Hurley as inside 50 power forward, Gumby as lead up CHF, Crameri as attacking 3rd tall with license to work up the ground and lose his man on the way back, Winderlich playing the role that Monfries used to play either as a lead up or defensive forward and Davey as the goal sneak/tackle machine. Then I'd count Jetta amongst the midfield rotation and have him, Zaka and maybe Colyer rotating through the forward line along with the resting ruck. I'd have Ryder spending more time up forward than on the ball because he's more damaging than TBell up there and I think would be more effective on the ball after TBell has worked the opposition over a little bit.

To me that is a very potent forward line. Also if Daniher is playing better than Gumby next year or one of Gumby and Hurley is out injured then I'd play Daniher inside 50 and push Hurely up the ground if it is Gumby not playing.

If Hurley and Gumby are playing well that will leave opposition having to put the scraps onto Crameri and I'd suggest that he'd be able to either run them into the ground or over power them in marking contests. If they put number 1 and 2 defenders on Hurley and Crameri then Gumby should be able to cut loose across half forward which will see us have an easy avenue to goal and while Hurley or Crameri may be contained having such an easy avenue to goal will see us probably win the game through sheer amount of opportunities.

The other thing about having three potential marking targets who can all run hard through the whole game it means that the defense can be spread more easily, providing the midfield hit their targets coming forward, and we can have running patterns for our KPFs that allow us to isolate one who is on top of his direct opponent inside 50.

I'm considering that Hurley will be playing forward seeing that we have Hooker, Pears, Carlisle and Fletcher on the list for next year. I think it is very possible that O'Brien will get more than a few games too.

That seems like a very tall forward line if you have Gumby, Hurley, and Ryder all down there at once. Given that a tall forward was often the guy teams subbed off last season is it worth having that many big guys in there to begin with? As mobile as they are for big men, I doubt any of those guys would be able to match the pace of a smaller defender well enough to keep them accountable on the rebound.

He's the best, most reliable thing we have in our forward line right now.

No way would I want to move him.

Would you move him in the sense that you emotionally stirred him to invoke greater playing spirit and spur him to greater playing heights of performance?

I wouldn't dream of moving Crameri out of the forward line... but I would like to see him get out on hard leads more often, especially when he's stuck with bigger opponents. For one thing, his hands are superb at speed; also, along with Jetta he's probably the best proponent of the long, quick kick to a one-on-one inside 50, always seems to put it to advantage.

So yeah, has to be forward, but playing higher more often than last season.

Yes I would, Kent.

One of the best one on one forwards ive seen especially being the last line before the goals. Still cant get over the start of 2011? he was brilliant.

He really needs to become a 50 goal forward this year, anything less and hes under selling himself.

Sometimes i see a laconic attitude from him on the field, he to me doesn't yet have that real killer instinct.

I don't think he knows how good he could be.

When I address someone as Kent, it's normally a slightly mis-pronounciation of a similar word...

Sometimes with a Y betweem the K and E for extra bogan impact.
Kents fecked.

He's a big unit naturally but a lot of the extra bulk that we've known him for is and will be shed by the 2013 season. I guess they're trying to get him to be something like a Paul Chapman type, to a lessor extent.

Personally I'd rather him stay where he was & get the rest of the forward line settled & then into a well drilled, & functioning one.

i have to admit i am pretty happy with crameri and hurley playing as roaming half forwards so to speak. They can both give us options up on centre wing and so forth that we sometimes don't have as well as give us some big strong body to help protect our mids. If they have the engine to play a role like that then i am all for it. This will leave ryder and gumby inside 50 to make up the next line of targets. I personally don't see why even gumby and ryder could be swapped into the leadin half forward role a bit here and there to give crameri and hurley a breather every now and then.

Just my opinion but i think it will help spread our big guys out a bit, give us extra targets going forward and provide protection for the running mids.

If we only had Jobe and Stanton fair enough id look at him for the midfield but we now have

Watson, Stanton + Heppell, Goddard, Myers, Zaharakis, Howlett, Hocking ect

For me he resembles Ryan Okeffe the most. Really strong bodied players, low COG, wide hipped, left footers, great overhead marking, massive tanks, can play forward and midfield. I think the only time Crameri moves into the midfield Okeffe 2012 style will be when the forward line is sured up. That time will be when Hurley is a 50 goal forward, Gumby plays 18+ games a season, JoeD arrives/devolops, Ryder gets more forward killer instinct/nous, Winderlich plays 18+ games in a year. When the above happens like Sydney id be more than happy to move Crameri into an onball position Okeffe style.

As much as there are similarities between O'Keefe and Crameri there are also differences I'd say make Crameri a better forward and O'Keefe a better mid.

Crameri has not displayed any of the defensive nous that we'd be looking to add to the midfield which is something O'Keefe excels at. He is also a much stronger and better overhead than O'Keefe.

Looking to move Crameri into the middle only really seems to be for the sake of a rotation. If we want to add another hard running big body in there O'Brien is probably as agood a choice and doesn't weaken a forward line which also happens the most unsettled part of our team.

Main difference between those two being Cramdog is a hulk, making him much harder to match up on forward. No defenders have his combination of strength/speed/endurance.
Def agree with bolded.

Just what we need, another player with tissue paper hamstrings...

With Crameri possessing strength, Hurley greatly improving his cardio and hopefully Gumby's hammy is just a hiccup and he still gets most of the work in this preseason so he can get his massive tank back (massive sentence I know). The bombers will have a very flexible forward line that with proper strategies can both work over opposition defenders and getting "structures" and "running patterns" worked out that allow us to isolate any of them in all sorts of different ways and positions, if we get a match up where one is on top.

Coupled with this is Ryder's pace, quick as Yarran, so not only can he be a superb mark, if allowed to run and jump, and a VERY handy 2nd ruck, he'll be able to play alongside those three without sacrificing speed up forward so as to not allow opposition to waltz out of there with the ball. Jetta and Winders are also capable of running through the middle, which out of my choice starting forward line would leave only Davey as a stay at home forward!!
