It will hurt if he turns into a good player but I won't be too cut up about it.

Why? Because I think he's quite possibly the sort of player/person that needed something like this to happen for the penny to drop.

Had we kept him, it may not have.
This.
He’s been nothing but average. If he improves good luck to him.

I can only surmise that Stocker is a non football related issue. I think he easily showed enough to stay on the list given who else we have on it and his age profile.

I felt he looked over weight and from my own personal opinion didn’t look in great mental shape on media bits that he was involved in throughout the year.

Maybe the coaching group felt they couldn’t impact on him going forward hence delisting. He is one player that we have delisted I hope proves Carlton wrong.

We are still missing that aggressive defensive trait in our back 6/7. That player that wants the ball first and foremost over a handball receive. We need a sacrificial defensive player with hardness.

How dumb can we be as club to delist someone with some value. No words but I guess we do love to overpay and then lose on the other side. Just can’t fathom this one.
Being uncontracted, I'm not sure what else the club could have done.

Sad to see him moved on.
Keep seeing about him not buying in mentioned on here and yet no one says what he didnt buy into.
Is this people saying i know something you guys dont?

Obviously there are basic flaws in Stockers game approach or mentality determination & professionalism that we’re not privy to , however letting a 22 year old with some potential and retaining a very mature 33 year old great servant of the club but at the end of the road is a curly one , also granting a year contract to Sam Durdin that just stepped in the door is a other strange one, indeed.

Surely you guys could have gotten something for him though. North last year gave Richmond a future 2nd (now pick 19) for an out of contract Callum Coleman-Jones when they could have just walked him to the PSD. Stocker had to be worth a late 2nd/early 3rd surely.

There will always be differing opinions about any particular footballer's skills, attributes and what they bring to the side they play for but ask yourself this simple question, if your son/daughter, nephew/niece was discarded by any company in this manner after seeking help mental health issues, would you agree to such treatment?
lets not start this victimhood bs . He wasnt paid peanuts and its a cutthroat game.

Agreed. I love that Stocker was hard at it but people are massively overating it as the be and end all. If being an AFL player was just about being hard at it we would dump half our team and replace them with guys from the suburban league.

You can't go off on others about assumptions and then make those same assumptions about Stocker....

That's the thing though.. by all accounts, we should have. But we didn't.. and I cannot believe that a professional list management team, any professional management team would just "forget to ask'..
So there must be more at play here.

stocker was in our best 30
Players easily and people saying Boyd this boyd is better. I rate boyd but he has played 7 games over a year and a half so we need to chill .. stocker first 7 games we were probably thinking how tough and sos is a genius.
To me it was a personality issue and that’s the crux of it. last preseason he was flying before his injury .. good luck to him

That's not an accurate depiction of our backline and you need to excel in one of these traits if they are mutually exclusive to your game.

Among our defenders Stocker ranked 10th or lower in every defensive stat apart from tackles (8th), and that includes contested possessions.

He was a long way off the pace for where we're at with our list but hopefully gets an opportunity to further develop with another team.

Barrett wouldn't hesitate to write an article on it if he actually knew the details, so I'm inclined to believe he doesn't know more than you or I.

Barrett can be a pain in the *** but he does have better intel and sources than most in the media, probably a bit of where there's smoke in this instance ...

Regardless I wish Stocker all the best and hope he finds a new club.

The less the club says about the reasons Stocker got delisted, the better his chances of finding another club.
Sucks for us members who want answers. But in all honesty, the club is doing him a favour by leaving it as a football matter.

Good luck Stock! You’ve got the ability, you’ve got a good heart. I hope you find your way back into the game!

Do clubs ever give commentary on delistings?

I think his poor start to the year and fitness means those stats were poor as you rightly point out. I also checked out certain stats before i posted and he comes off worse in 2022 than Boyd and Boyd is terrible in a league wide comparison.

His 2022 year doesn’t mean he is poor in those areas if you have insight. More his problems are elsewhere in terms of fitness and mental approach. He just wasn’t fit enough this year. Only IMO, he has the aggressive and tackling traits and get ball first mantra in spades. Way more than Boyd naturally.

Either you side with his ceiling being very high if motivated and fit or you side with the idea he just has too many issues or is just a poor player. I’m with the former but think it’s not a footy issue holding him back.

I think what is most disappointing is that we have chosen to delist him rather then trade him. There is some value there even if just a third rounder. In the current age of points and live pick trading, that can certainly be used if we have no intention of actually using a pick that late.
