Because 1948 was 51 years ago and 2004 was 5 years ago.

One is comprable, the other isn't.

Hawthorn is like modern Germany or Japan.

Rich, successful - not so keen on being reminded of their past.

I have no problem with Hawthorn's past being brought up. The point is that it isn't relevant to North Melbourne today.

Hawthorn didn't get offered a truckload of money to move home base, turn that down because the supporters wanted the club to stay home and then sit and watch as those same supporters refused to actually turn up to support the club.

^^^ Hawthorn's past will always be brought up because other clubs will think they can emulate the amazing feats of Ian Dicker and Jeff Kennett.

Hawthorn were brought back from the brink by a combination of good luck, good management and amazing risks. If you told me 15 years ago that Hawthorn would get kicked out of waverley, recieve a payout to move to the MCG, play 4 games a year out of Tassie (especially after Fitzroy failed doing it at North Hobart), wear the Tasmanian logo on their jumper and now be the richest and most supported club (membership wise) in the league i would have said you were crazy.

Well blow me down with a feather!:thumbsu:

Hawthorn always had that latent support as well from the 70's and 80's. North doesn't have that luxury. It has never been a popular club, even when it is winning.

*raises eyebrows* Seriously??

How is it that a club like WCE makes such enormous profits on its crowds then... according to Footywire - I just checked again - their average home crowd is about 7,800 above the break-even point for crowds at Etihad/AAMI Stadium.

Over 30,000 should always be profitable anywhere (although over 20,000 should be also, with any sane stadium deal- if we use Melb Victory's deal at Etihad Stadium as a yardstick), but WCE make $1-2,000,000 every home game, from what I've heard!. To my mind, that suggests their break-even point must be substantially lower than the situation in either Adelaide or Melbourne...

I know the break-even point is a bit too high in Adelaide as well (that's why I didn't include Adelaide in my last post). This is a big reason why Port are struggling financially in a similar way to North financially at present. The home crowd averages for these two clubs are almost exactly the same right now.
1. We play in an old stadium that has been put together on the cheap and paid for by the State Govt. This stadium is given to us clean.
2. Our members pay between 50% and 100% more than most Melb members, so our revenue is higher.
3. Our corporate people pay bulk cash as there is a waiting list.
4. Many of the members return their tickets and they are re-sold by the Eagles, effectively double dipping. The members only get paid in team store $$ at a much reduced rate of their ticket value.

There are many more reasons we make so much more. It is not as simple as just the stadium deals being better.
