How often is he in 'form'? I don't even know what Dempsey looks like when in form. 11 inconsistent and injury riddled seasons.

You won't find many players who love Essendon as much as Courtenay, but it's time to get serious with taking this club forward.

Dempsey's career pretty much reflected the club throughout his time.

Flashes of brilliance but got ahead of himself and lacked the skills to be damaging against the better sides.

Edit; I always had a soft spot for him though and I wish him well after footy - whenever that may be :)

The fact that he turned up under prepared so often means I have little sympathy for his demise. He would easily have had another contract, especially with Hibberd leaving, had he consistently had the right professionalism throughout his career. I really hope he isn't given another season. That said, he has to be some chance with Gwilt's delisting. Hope not. Give his minutes to Francis, Gleeson, McKenna, Long, Dea etc..

Nail. Head. Hit.

love dempsey, great bomber man through and through, but still think we need to delist him. McKenna, Tippa, Gleeson all ahead of him IMO and younger. No need for him anymore.

He's from QLD isn't he? Probably better off getting one last decent deal from one of the teams up there.

I've seen this mentioned a few times. There seems to be an assumption that one of the QLD would just throw him a contract if he became available, but I'm not so sure. He's pushing 30, his form this year has largely been terrible, he's ill disciplined on the field, has had multiple run ins for his behaviour and attitude off the field, lacks any real leadership and has lost a lot of his most valuable asset in his pace. I like the guy, but honestly don't see how he'd be appealing to either Brisbane or GC.

I think it's more likely than not that he won't be kept on.

I honestly thought at the start of the season that he'd use this of all years to shine, and things just didn't work out that way.

The way I see it, Woosha will be wanting to get a list together asap that can be a top 8 regular and I can't see him being a required player.

Courtney is certainly our new whipping boy it seems. I personally hope we keep him on the list as I think he still has a bit to offer. Lots of people bang on about how great David Myers is - but to me hes no better (or worse) than Courtney - both gifted players who have shown flashes of brilliance, yet are very injury prone. Stats are very similar also;-

Dempsey - age 29, started 2006, games - 133, ave.disposals - 17.3, marks - 4.1, goals - 0.3, tackles - 2.6
Myers - age 27, started 2008, games - 85, ave.disposals - 17.7, marks - 3.7, goals - 0.3, tackles - 2.9

I like both players but they're completely different. Myers is a big body that will be a cog in the finals/premiership tilt over the next 2-3 years.

Dempsey wasn't AFL standard in the back half of 2016. He was actually embarrassing on and off field at times.

A good Essendon servant but his time is up. Delist.
