Are the forward of centre comparisons with Bowey correct? Can never have too many clean kicks.

What's his speed like?

He's faster than Bowser for sure, likes to have a gallop with the pill , don't think he's as good a kick as Bowser but he's definitely neat.

he needs to work on his conditioning and strength too. Still carrying excess weight.

Interesting take, not sure I agree, but then again I probably do

This is what I noticed most from his draft highlights. Had that knack of getting out of a tight squeeze and then funding a teammate or kicking a snag. Could be a more dangerous version of Spargo if he builds the tank and defensive mindset

pretty good comparison I think from what ive seen, bit more explosive and can kick over a jam tin however.

I’m more bullish on Laurie than I was last year as I was underwhelmed with what I saw, probably a bit unfairly because he had a very injury interrupted 2021.

I agree with your description, very Spargo-like in style. I also don’t see any real AFL level athleticism there, again similar to Spargo.

With Dunstan playing up with Melbourne Laurie has been the one that has upped his onball time as a result.

That surprised me a bit as he has half forward flanker written all over him for mine, and he was spending more time at half forward before Dunstan went up.

But Melbourne have a strong record of developing players at Casey in the positions they see them playing at AFL level - not plonking them in the position where they can most help Casey get a win.

So you’d think that suggests that Melbourne are projecting Laurie as a player who swaps as a centre bounce on baller and half forward flanker.

He has been earmarked as someone who can play midfield time. I think Jason Taylor said in one of those behind-the-scenes draft videos along the lines of “don’t be surprised if he ends up being a Sam Mitchell-style midfielder”, obviously meaning stylistically rather than the potential to have a career like Sam.

I've already got a tattoo designed of Bailey's face with 4xPremiership Hero ready just in case.

The Spargo comparison is a good one. Nothing necessarily eye catching about Laurie but he's smart and uses it neatly. Could be a very solid player.

He was talking about Bowey.

I do think hes more explosive than Spargo, seen him run away from a few opposition players over a short distance and kick a goal on the run from 50. Something you NEVER see Charlie do
Yeah, that's part of what I meant by calling him a more dangerous version.

He looked to have a neat kick, the ability to find a target, work in tight and generally pick a good option. They're all the offensive assets that Spargs has. But I felt he could break away from congestion and be a goal threat from more than 35m out.

I bloody love Spargo. What wouldn't be awesome about a clone that kicked a few more snags?

Moves well and looks like a smart player. Should probably be teaching Petracca how to kick a set shot too.

Probably the player im excited by most, has really come on this past month.

Happy for him to come in this week if Harmes is out. Bedford will be sub again. Chandler will be rubbed out because the AFL are stupid.

he needs a better performance than what he served up this weekend .
Agree, after a string of impressive games Laurie was pretty “meh” against the Dolphins.

Maybe another one who was a bit ill? Looked a bit sluggish and didn’t seem to spend as much time on ball as in previous games despite Casey’s team being weaker.
