Has anyone got stats regarding goals kicked by his opponents?
Would like to know because I don't think anyone has kicked more then 3 goals playing on him. He has been our best and most consistant defender and would think he would be top 5 in B&F. Barely gives a frre kick away and infact has won more free kicks himself, which is great for a defender.

Who have his opponents been this year? Pavlich, Roughead, Bradshaw, Walker, Hawkins, Koscitzke(?)...

Bradshaw kicked 4 on him (got away in last quarter from memory) and Kosi also kicked 4 or 5. But he has been just awesome so far for us.

It's very easy to forget that he was a bottom age pick, and is only in his second year.

This kid will be a star.

If he can improve his kicking efficiency, he will be elite.

Yeh your right, thought Bradshaw kicked 3 and wasn't sure about Kosi.
But yeh, clearly been fantastic for a 19-20 year old, ~15 game, KP backmen.

Bradshaw kicked 4 on him (got away in last quarter from memory) and Kosi also kicked 4 or 5. But he has been just awesome so far for us.

Bradshaw kicked 4 straight with a few in the last when the game was over. Pears beat him all day. Kosi is the the only one who has really gotten away from him.

What impresses me about Pears is that he rarely gets beaten in one-on-ones. There are other factors to what makes a good backmen, but all the top backmen rarely get beaten one-on-one.

EDIT: OK Bradshaw and Koschitzke kicked 4 goals against us, so looks like Pears may have had more than 3 kicked on him, but still, you get the point of the post!

John Anthony kicked 4 on Anzac day. Pretty sure Pears was on him most of the day. Douglas kicked 2 on him in about 5 mins on the weekend.

I didn't attend the Adelaide game, but thought Pears played on Walker for most of that game?
And how long did Pears play on Douglas for though? Cos those were Douglas' only two goals for the game. Douglas is around 10cm shorter then Pears, so seems odd that Pears played on him.

Wasnt on him for long, las qtr i think it was. Pretty rare for a player to have the same opponent for 100% of the match. Its like people saying Hooker had 7 goals kicked on him, how can you count the goals that were kicked when he was in the ruck.

Pears was on Walker for most of the day and beat him comfortably. He was only moved off him to take Tippet -who was running riot- and kept him to 2 goals in the time he was on him.

Loved his long runs down the wings today, but even better was looking back at Fevola who was in the goal square knowing his man was about to set up another goal. Forced Fevola out wide and did a pretty good job i thought.... Though was probably helped by our midfield domination.

The second one wasn't Fev's fault. It was a kick in and he was standing the mark on the goal square.

Congrats to Tayte for the Rising Star Nomination. Two or three weeks late IMO

Another great game by Tayte - probably a shame that he is up against Rich who is a favourite to win rising star.
Enjoyed seeing him play at CHB - shows such great athleticism and creativitiy in the back line - love it! Tayte has had a great year, very impressed!

He's nearly overtaken Ryder as my favourite Essendon player to watch. I cannot believe how good he has become so quickly. I thought it would take another season or two (or three) at least.

Enjoyed watching him roughing up that Noddy-Lookalike Murphy after he got in his face, a dangerous move considering that this yellow fellow-

- was loitering about, practically perched on his shoulder with whistle at the ready.

Anyway, not his greatest night tonight but am still secretly in love with him. He + Hurley=

Moves like Jono Brown, not saying he`s comparable to Brown the footballer, just moves like him.

Magnificent to see the young bull keep the old bull in check, yes his kicking was off but that was also due to Brown having the blinkers on. I know "he`s the man" up forward for Briz but he really should have given off a couple of times and not turn his back after taking a mark. Pears 1 Brown 1.
Captain material this boy.

I don't think Pears is a great defender yet as he still hasen't quite fineced his spoiling and defencive skills yet..

I certainly agree that he's a very good attacker of the ball and in moving the ball forward.. But Matty Knights has to remember he can't alway just always look at the attacking side of everything and teach the young lads only this, Pears this preseason should really work on reading the play, predicting where the ball is heading and try to get front position on his opponent.

No preseason and recurring bouts of tonsilitus, and he STILL plays 23 games in one of the most demanding positions on the ground? at 19 years old? brilliant young player.
