What would you say if West Coast wanted Rioli as part of a deal for Harley Reid, you couldn’t pack his bags quick enough I bet. This loyalty stuff only goes so far these days, it is a business and everyone is trying to do the best for themselves be it club, player or coach.
100%

We are loyal to our club first
player next

Players are Loyal to their family first
club 2nd

They are open to play where they want after 10 years of service and like Lids he is giving Richmond a parting gift thats precious.

Go Well Daniel Rioli

When I see players that look to extend their contracts then others that want to break long term tenure following a bottom placed finish I draw an obvious conclusion , talking of the fringe benefits that result are completely irrelevant and that example to is completely irrelevant

You need to face the reality that players do move, sometimes very good players, we don’t get Lynch or Prestia unless players move. I can understand why you are disappointed but that’s why there is a trade period now, the AFL actually encourages this movement.

In this scenario does Rioli want to go to WCE? If he didn't he wouldn't have to, if he did then what's the problem with someone wanting to pack his bags for him?

Imagine he did an ACL this season, do you think he'd still want to go to the Gold Coast next season or would he remain loyal to Richmond 🤣🤣🤣?

The club doesn’t have to let him go to Gold Coast either and hopefully won’t unless we get a very good deal. You’re right if he did an ACL he probably wouldn’t want to go and our very necessary rebuild would be a lot worse off.

Another Baker type player, not good enough to be a midfielder or forward, settles in the backline and becomes a good rebounder similar to Houli, how much do we really expect to get for a player like this?
We're lucky he's in contract so we might get more than we should.
Not good enough to be a forward?! He's a three-time premiership forward!

Shame we didn't try him in the midfield.

I'd rather keep Rioli. B&F in our worst year ever. But its a perfect storm of a very close ex coach's new team also underperforming. Identifying what Rioli provides. Sprint efforts off half back. Which we can cover, shoving Hugo or Smith there.

Rioli under contract we get a chance to chance to really hit the 1st rounds of the next couple of drafts.

Baker, Bolton, Graham also wanting out. Our small fwd line. Bolton is a very good player. But averages 1.5 goals.
Baker can play back mid and forward. Good mark & kick. Best in the backline IMO.

Graham is the undroppable spud.

Starting to feel this way myself, wont make any real difference in the next 2 years if they are here or not, so lets go all in for the future.

Well we need a couple of experienced players to teach the kids but we already have that with Prestia, Taranto etc.

GC have Lombard and others that will take pick 14 plus more.

The pick they want to really keep us pick 6, but for Rioli, this is non negotiable

Ideally yes, any club would, but even Dimma knows pick 6 will be on the table. He basically said it the other night that keeping picks isn't their priority, it's about getting quality experienced players in then mentioned they had 4 top kids come in the year before.

Suns have to agree to give away pick 6. Dimma is going to try and take short cuts to make finals
