I hate haten on our own but this guy has to be dropped ASAP.
He’s had 9 lives of minimal influence and if the effort was there I’d at least accept there was intent shown but he’s shown on numerous occasions not to crack in 100% and squib it in contests.

The one on one with Greene demonstrated it perfect, in the better position and yet didn’t get a hand on the ball and even worse barely made contact with a similar sized opponent to at least bring it to ground.

Cmon guys, he kicked 4 goals in a prelim, he’s coming back from a foot injury, he’s not there to kick goals, he pressures sometimes, other players kick the goals he’s supposed to kick, he is a big game player, he played at fullback all night that’s why he didn’t touch the ball, he saved an orphanage of children from bushfires and he’s still tired from the heroics

Compare Aarts effort when he did the Cotchin like gather and spin in the one motion to the effort Rioli showed in the middle of ground in the second quarter which eventually led to a GWS goal and is really is beyond a joke that he continues to get a game. Its easy to rack up pressure acts and tackles when you are constantly waiting on the outside for your opponent to get the ball but winning the ball yourself while also getting a high number of pressure acts and tackles is a completely different thing. I don't think he has crumbed a pack once this season and he has zero other redeeming qualities that make it worth selecting him. He has the odd jaw dropping moment and bobs up with the odd goal but he has such little influence on the game. You watch the likes of Stack and Bolton and they will have a couple of moments each game which make you go 'wow this kid has the potential to be a freak', Rioli you may get a moment like that every 6 weeks. Even Aarts who many view as a vanilla mature age recruit who is tough, disciplined and team orientated has the odd moment each game where he will take you by surprise. Whereas the majority of Riolis touches are simple hand balls and long kicks down the line.

as others have stated, hes lost, needs complete re-programing in regards to his football, hes in his 5th season and should be one the games elite small fwds

I thought Rioli was terrible and agree with everything you posted here.

Wasn't good enough today but is the least of our concerns. Integral to our dominance in terms of time spent in our forward half and inside 50's even he isn't winning and disposing of the ball himself. Basically plays the role of a prop in rugby terms and keeps barging in thus having the ball a lot by finishing with a low disposal count. The few times tonight he did get space tonight he fumbled but that happens in a tight contested game like tonight.

Once again led the team for averaging moving speed, pressure acts and tackles.

But I struggle to see the difference between Riolis forward line performance tonight, and Graham’s midfield performance. They were both absolutely horrific, but I couldn’t say Graham’s pressure acts are integral, while Riolis aren’t.

We played 2 players down with these two tonight.

Rioli is waiting for his opponent, whereas Graham is attacking the ball full steam ahead. Massive difference. Graham whether he disposes of it or not gets the ball going forward and is always a part of our attacking chains. The misconception about Richmond is the forward half pressure is where we are strong, it is the midfield pressure and constant wave after wave which is topped with our defence v lining and intercepting the ball that is the strength of our system.

Yep that contest in the middle was a killer for me, 50/50 ball and he didn’t want any of it. Don’t think his tackle caused a stoppage either.

Theory on how Daniel Rioli dropped in form.

Note this is only a theory and NOT reality, very absurd of me making such theories.

He was an gun with his best year coming in 2017, in that year, he played to impress everyone that he's a gun in the competition and his 2017 output by showing off to everyone that no one's coming out of Richmond's F50 with him in the vicinity. He was also good in 2018 in the limited games his played and early that year he started dating Mia Fevola. He was also good in 2019 and helped the Tigers to another flag.

In early 2020, it was announced that Daniel Rioli and Mia Fevola split up although they stay good friends.

I reckon the drop in form was because he didn't have the need to impress someone such as his family or his missus. During his best years, the adrenaline rush that he got by having someone to impress like his then missus gave him the boost to make him play much better and have much more impact around the F50 area. Now ever since splitting up with his missus, he lost that adrenaline rush that made him a gun player since he has no one to impress anymore during his best years and now looks off the pace this season and could be dropped next week.

Graham is attacking, but is always second to the ball due to no speed and an inability to get the ball. That in itself is as big a liability for a midfielder, as Rioli watching as a forward.

I get your point, but both aren’t near good enough in my opinion. Graham has almost no ceiling, and Rioli is seemingly incapable of reaching his ceiling.

as ive said at Daniels age going home to trim after a tough match would of been the icing on the cake for the young bloke, not only is that privelage
not available but hes denied through lockdown to go and find himself some which is a young mans birth right...gotta have some empathy for these young single blokes in the current climate, gotta have a balance,no socialising with the opposite sex will definitely not be helping things
