Hahah … the final indignity for many a poster on this forum…. first it was no coach’s votes (then he started getting some). Then it was ‘can’t be part of a good defensive system and we are losing’ ….(then we started winning). Then it was ‘can’t defend’ (and he put is some stellar defensive efforts against Cameron and others). Then it was ‘all this AA talk is just way over the top’ … and now he’s in the squad.
What next I wonder until RJK and friends can admit they were wrrrrr wrrrrrrrrrr wrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Excellent work gentlemen, honestly believe all of them should make the 22, Bolton in the mid, Lynch in FF, and Rioli would probably be on the bench.
No Chance , Too busy on the carlton Board telling them how good their club is and how many elite players they have
here gave the list a bit of a trim and got rid of the pretenders and stat padders

And the final nail is in the coffin of RJK and friends - 2nd in the B&F.
And to think RJK was hanging his hat on ‘no coach’s votes’ early in the season ..?!??? Seems the coach’s were pretty satisfied with his season!

The only people who keep going on about this shit are you 2 . I rate him, but he isn;t Andrew McLeod like you tried to suggest & i reckon he showed in the EF that he is a long way from being in the same convo as Houli, who played his best games in our most important times. Our backline was utter crap in that game & we let a team that on paper were worse than us kick 15 goals on us. The problem with Dan at HB was more to do with you all praising him like he had already had an a successful career down there, when reality he has had 1. I prefer to see sustained success from a player, during times of success - before i blow too much wind up any players arse.
Well done on him coming 2nd. We still finished 7th & Geelong just won a GF . It tells you a bit where we are at where your GF was Rioli finishing 2nd in the B&F wedged between 2 guys who played 20% less games than him.

Ive said countless times i think he had a good year.
What i said in regards to the back 6 was i preferred Short & Baker in those roles. To be fair Baker was only a few votes behind him & Short was winning the B&F when he played that same role, if he had played the whole year at HBF, which is his best position, he would have likely won the B&F & would have been an AA. Cant deny that is not true, the votes are there to see in both the Brownlow and B&F
Baker FWIW got more Brownlow votes & more MVP coaches votes, by a decent margin in both. He received a few less B&F votes - it weas very close.
I like Dan, when others wanted to trade him last year i was against it. I still stand by that i like him when he moves forward more & said countless times that when he did that more later in the year, he was far more useful. They are also the games where he got the most votes from the looks of it - the ones where he pushed hard forward, linked up and played almost as a 2nd, overlapping wing that got into the attacking half
There have been countless conversations about him and his game change where my stance on him has moved - but the narrative with the usual few stayed the same, holding onto a few quotes out of a 1000 conversations about him. Ive said he had a good year, said i liked his role down back there more as it evolved into a forward attacking role too. I'm still suss on his defensive side & there were more than a few times in clutch moments he looked ordinary, including the Sydney game, Geelong Game & the EF.
If i was naming the side i would have Short & Baker +Rioli doing the HBF roles in that order, using Dan as a wing, HFF as well - with a 60/40 split - while rotating Baker & Short in the middle. My opinion evolved as the year went on, but the narrative didn't.
A forward line rotation of Lynch, Riewoldt, Bolton, Dusty, MRJ, Cumberland & D.Rioli to me still looks elite & I think we could have that while still having Short, Baker Dan Rioli rotate off HBF. So my opinion on him changed to that point throughout the year - I originally thought he was better suited as HFF / Wing - then admitted he works best as a running rotating HBF / W / HFF as he can link up beautifully with the likes of MRJ & Bolton. We saw that in the 2nd half of the year and it was elite also.
Never said he should be dropped from the side, just should rotate through other positions to utilise his strength. By the end of the year he basically did play that role & he polled much better. I always write indepth opinions & the usual 2 on this topic always dumb that down to the same boring narrative. My opinion on him did change as the year rolled on - i am just suss to why our once elite defence has turned to trash over the past period where he moved into the HBF. I don't buy the argument that our defence looked bad only due to our midfield - we looked a ****ing shitshow down there at times & ultiamtely i think that poor defence is what cost us any chance of real success this year, along with a lack of depth & help for Dion
Last im writing on it - its ****ing boring. We finished 7th ffs & we are looking like Carlton supporters - fighting amongst ourselves over pointless shit because we have no success to talk about anymore. If you waiting for me to say i am wrong - i am not gonna do it as its not the full story. The above is an accurate reflection of what i thought of him.

So when you douchebags did it in round 5, it was probably a bit premature, yeah? Andrew Raines finished 2nd in our B&F once from HBF & Jordan McMahon finished 8th. Thats been the whole point the whole time - ive been saying you are getting far too ahead of yourselves & you need to curb your enthusiasm.
None of you douchebags said shit about him after the EF when he was pretty ordinary. Andrew McLeod & Houli had their best games in the finals at HBF while Dan had one of his worst for the year. He has a long way to go yet & I reckon if you asked Dan himself if he thinks he is as good as those 2 he would agree.
