19 Year old Essendon player assaults Taxi driver

The Herald Sun understands the man was picked up by a taxi outside a South Melbourne nightclub about 5.30 this morning and went to a Hungry Jacks fast food outlet in Hoddle St.
He left the taxi for some food and when the cabbie pursued him asking for his fare, the man allegedly kicked the driver in the groin and punched him

Doesn't really sound fare does it?

At least he didn't have hands in the back or it would have been 50.

Anyone who says that Fev has never done anything as bad as this is clearly racist.

Hurley allegedly hits an Indian man, and everyone is up in arms, yet we all overlook Fev hitting an Irish man.

Mate... Fev didn't hit the barman, so be reasonable about it instead of this pathetic deference crap. David Hookes' family and a raft of others could only be wishing their brother/husband/son was put in a headlock instead.

Probably.

Maybe getting harsh on a guy like Hurley might make the other morons in society wake up.

Essendon supporters defending him need to wake up. I'm sick of seeing unprovoked assaults in the paper all the time and I'm especially sickened by the use of kicking as a weapon.

I really hope its not true.

This by no means should be a reflection on the club or the other players who by and large are decent human beings.

Well spoken ..and these sentiments are valid for every club in the comp . :thumbsu:

having just returned from a couple weeks in Melb, i can attest to the frustration felt by many towards the cities cabbies, basically they suck the big one

but bashem? bit over the top young hurles

"Mr Hamilton said Hurley had not been charged with any offence.

Police have confirmed that a 19-year-old from Rosanna has been arrested over an altercation with a cab driver in Hoddle St.

I'm hoping the 19 year old from Rosanna is a friend of Hurley's and he's just named for giggles...

Got a feeling that if it wasnt Hurley the club would have come out and said it straight away.

The current generation of young men coming through our society are a bunch of ****s.

Whether it was Hurley or somebody Hurley was with is besides the point; it is utterly unacceptable behaviour and the person should be punished appropriately.

There is this mentality surrounding current youth who just seem to have this blatant disrespect for anybody and act as such. This isn't just a football issue, but a social issue.

The fact that recent attacks have been of a racist nature is even worse. Whilst I don't think this has anything to do with racism, the fact is that given the current climate it could not have been more poorly timed.

Add to that, there is no excuse for an unprovoked attack on somebody and kicking is also the lowest form of dog act going around.

I don't buy the whole 'he is a 19 y/o who was drunk argument'. I've been 19, been drunk and never seen a person assaulted like that simply for the sake of it (and I grew up in Noble Park). I've also caught heaps of cabs and been forced to pay up extra because the dodgy driver 'had no change'. Yeah I was pissed off and told him so, but I didn't assault him.

It's a disgrace and I hope that due to the high profile nature of this story that those ****wits start paying attention and changing their approach and attitude to life.

This is what happens when you stay out and drink until 5.30AM in the morning!!NO wonder he was off his head!!

It's not everyone's reaction, I've been out till that hour plenty of times but never felt the inclination to bash someone. If he's guilty of an unprovoked assault like that then he's just another arrogant twat. This holier than thou crap should be stamped out, throw the book at him.

Wow what an utter knob Hurley must be. There's no excuse for assaulting a taxi driver, unless it's some kind of self defence situation. If this is an unprovoked attack, send him to jail for a bit (or perhaps Collingwood?)

Knob.

Whoa !! lets not go crazy here ..he's only being investigated for assault ..he's not a serial killer .
I wouldn't wish Collingwood on Martyn Bryant . :D

Again people, you are all judging him with out him having his side of the story told.

P.S You Hawthorn supporters really are good for a laugh.

It is time for the club to read him the riot act. We don't want him to end up another Fev. :(

If this is true, he's already done far worse than Fev ever has. Comparisons with Fev are just mind boggling tbh.

I will ask this question - do posters know of someone who has been assaulted by a cabbie? The bit in the article where it says "He left the taxi for some food and when the cabbie pursued him asking for his fare"... sounds all too congenial if you ask me.

Who knows what really went down, but I hope the truth comes out and appropraite punishment metted out accordingly.

.

I meant drinking until blotto!! Hurley is at the age where, if drinking is a problem, then it should be nipped in the bud. Surely you yourself wouldn't want this young guy to drink until he can't remember anything, and then carry on the way Fev did/does. Unless you missed the vid on channel 9 this morning.

Couldn't agree with that part more, lets wait and see what comes out and then either defend him or throw the book at him. It's certainly dissapointing if it's true and he deserves whatever punishment he gets if it is true but lets just wait and see what comes out in the next week and then make a decision.
