They certainly had some great bands gig there!

The site today:

I just felt another chunk of my misbegotten yoot die off... :screamcat:

Thanks for the recommendation. Now reserved at my library. Don't know where I'm going to squeeze in the time to read all the good books in my mits till I get my repreive from city life next month. Might have to stop playing games or phone it in on the dreaded practise match I see in the fixture. Can't say I'm looking forward to certain Wonders Team Mates finding out that I am 'sleeping with the enemy' in such a 1970's fashion. How do I know that they won't be understanding of the free radical alien, that they said they wanted and will now suspect me of and hang me out to dry for insurrection. Talk about finding yourself in the wrong place at the wrong time on the wrong side....what feats of navigation sailing those shark infested waters I have ahead.

Most SFA peeps are pretty cool, but then again I don't get super personal on any website, so maybe there are attitudes that remain hidden from my view.

If you can stand the medium, here's a pointer to the group, which I just joined:

I can barely stomach any social media other than BF, but I do keep an eye in FB simply to maintain some tenuous connections with my personal diaspora.

Cool. I'm more 'afraid' of my own team mates actually. It's more like what am I doing with the suburban westies when I should be hanging out with my cool inner city loosey goosey compatriots.

Roys FFC are all from the ‘right side’ of Smith Street.

Since I'm >16K km away, I'm sure I miss a lot of Aus- and Melb-specific subtleties. :tonguewink:

AKA not the side of the Grace Darling but lets face it it's the wrong side of Nicholson St.
Touché

After all, it’s all downhill from Nicholson street. N’est-ce pas?

“it became the home of two long-running audience participation films, The Rocky Horror Picture Show (from 1978) and The Blues Brothers (from 1980), as well as regular 24-hour film marathons. The marathons were often science-fiction-themed, showing anything from Hollywood blockbusters like "Terminator 2: Judgment Day", B-grade films such as "Them!", or the complete series of Star Trek motion pictures. Animation celebrations were popular with audiences. The cinema also ran regular weekend, or week-long, festivals on a theme: Jacques Tati, New Russian Cinema, Rainer Fassbinder, Werner Herzog, Pink Panther, Bond films, Astaire/Rogers, Woody Allen, Mel Brooks, and Akira Kurosawa.” Wiki

As I recall, every share house I ever visited between 1980 and 1987 seemed to have a Valhalla poster behind the toilet door.

I saw this film there and a few others such as 'Le Grande Bouffe' never bothered with either Blues Brothers or Rocky Horror...but would drive past and see the Friday night crowd on the way to somewhere else.

I’m fairly sure I saw Plan 9 from Outer Space and Robot Monster, which they used to play as a double bill there.

From the ridiculous to the sublime, this is another of my favourite films from the 80’s

This song took from 1982-84 before Prince was satisfied enough to release it.

The Word Prince 2005
From the 3121 album which was a return to form for Prince after his stoush with Warners and contractual slavery.
This is my fave from the album and relates to the above song with signature flourishes.

Amazing recognition of your talent. Definitely worth blowing your own trumpet. Such a cool thing to have happen.

Prince was definitely the musician’s musician and composer. Here are The Hindu Love Gods, with Warren Zevon on vocals, backed by Peter Buck, Bill Berry and Mike Mills (REM) having a crack at ‘Raspberry Beret’.

I liked Prince, and respect his abilities and artistry, though I can't call myself much of a fan.

However, I do have one personal Prince story, as I was at the 09 Oct 1981 L.A. Coliseum show where he opened up for the Stones, and got booed off the stage. Someone threw a shoe at Bill Graham, which was a mistake as Bill singled the cretin out and had security give him the bum's rush out of the Coliseum.

I was still in high school and I was bummed, b/c IMO Prince and the pre-Revolution were playing some of the best rock we'd had up to that point.

Here's a corroborating story, and it's on the Internet so you know it's true. :p

This isn't the only untold story by the ethernet campfire and the Artist Prince had many a moment of being willfully misunderstood. His stance against the exploitation of publishing behemoths is but one, with the ridicule he endured in changing his name to the symbol as a by product of it.
I admire not only his Art but his intelligence, determination to make his own way as an Artist and his $%#@ it individuality.

I did get to see him play in 1992 on the 'Diamonds & Pearls' tour in Australia and then go on to the secret show at the HellFire Club, as one of my friends was the then president of the Melbourne fan club and had a hand in organising it ( the only time I have been in that club as it definitely wasn't my scene) that was amazing to see the difference between the big public show and what he did in the private show and the mundanity that he was so tiny up close and personal.
And I did line up at a small record store in Soho NYC in 1988, to buy the orignal underground 'Black Album' the week it was released on a very limited basis, that took a lot of detective work. I had to buy the cassette for travels sake damn it. That was sheer coincidence in timing or maybe it wasn't.....

The equivalent of Mozart in scope and talent, Prince was one magnificent allrounder & showman guitarist extrordinaire, as shown by the ending of this clip.

*That complete story will not be told here for professional privacy.

This story is what I'm here by the campfire for Braklet. Thanks...something I never knew.
Reading that proves the point that I made to Kimba earlier, that Witch Burning has never ceased being a thing.
I would be bummed out that you got robbed by mob rule too.

I searched for an older article that had a lot more detail, like a transcription of Bill Graham's "I SEE YOU MOTHER****ER!" chit chat with the shoe-thrower, but came up short. Might have even had some pictures of the Coliseum that day, it was quite an elaborate show for the time.

And yeah, I'll always wonder how Prince's full set might have gone.

sister explained a bit to her about the 'pants mans' reputation and the girl looked at her all confused and said, You've got to be joking why would he even think that I would sleep with someone like my grandad.

Jagger has long ago transited the threshold of "dirty old (repulsive) man," just like Hugh Hefner did before him.

Completely tangential:

I recently got hold of a bootleg Japanese DVD of most of the musical guests on Hef's 70s Playboy After Dark TV show. What struck me was that only one or two groups lip synced; most played live in studio which is GREAT.

Can make video available privately on request.

I've seen some footage of the Playboy After Dark Show but not a whole show.

All Tangents are an endorsed mathematical equation to be encouraged in the free school.....We can wildly go off the reservation because there are no fences...run free in the wilds of the cultural jungle.....channel 'real' yogurt not the pretend version.

I say that as I wrestle with so many tangents in trying to reign in one of my next post subjects, that has just split into two posts and could very well become a fractal explosion.

Yes, the transit of the Rooster to Feather Duster!
