2005 Line-up

heres mine, fairly similar to others already posted but oih well

B: Chick, Glass, Hunter
HB: Stenglien, Lynch, Wirrpunda
C: Fletcher, Cousins, Braun
HF: Embley, Gardiner, Sampi
FF: Matera, McDougall, Seaby
R: Cox, Kerr, Judd
I: Staker, Waters, Wooden, B. Jones

guys who probably will play a reasonable amount this year but wouldn't quite be in the top 22: Nicoski, Butler, Adkins, Banfield, Hansen, Selwood, Gaspar ( very reluctant to put himin the 22 since we havn't seen very much of him).

He have a reasonable amount of depth in that squad. I think if they were all in form that team would be pretty damn good. Our only obviouse weakness is CHB where Lynch, Staker, Gaspar, Graham shoudl all be tried there this season so we can see who will be the best for 2006 when we push for the premiership.

If this thread has told me one thing, it's CHB remains a bit of question mark.

Hunter, Lynch, Staker - I'd think any of those three will play 22 rounds at CHB but I'd be reasonaly confident those guys have sufficiently diverse strengths for us to cover most match ups.

my team, given no injuries

Backs - David Wirrpunda - Darren Glass - Daniel Chick
Half Backs - Adam Hunter - Quinten Lynch - Beau Waters
Centres - Andrew Embley - Ben Cousins - Chad Fletcher
Half Forwards - Ashley Sampi - Michael Gardiner- Daniel Kerr
Forwards - Mark Seaby - Andrew McDougall - Phil Matera
Rucks - Dean Cox - Tyson Stenglein - Chris Judd
Interchange - Brent Staker - Travis Gaspar - Sam Butler - Michael Braun

With this team, i'd play a five man forward line with Kerr playing as a fourth on baller. Steinglein takes oppositions best man. Rotate through the middle often with Wirrpunda, Cousins, Fletcher, Kerr, Steinglein, Judd, Butler and Braun spending most of the time as the on ballers. Embley plays the linking role through the centre and the wings.

Cox drops back into defence, given we already have Seaby and Gardiner up front. Gardy at CHF. He's too dodgy in front of goals. He's much more useful when he just gets the ball and bombs rather than kicking at goal, and he's the best contested mark in the team which is what we need as CHF. I'd have him permenatly stationed within a circle spanning about 40 metres from goal to 15 metres inside the centre square and a width spanning the width of the centre square (45 metres). This way whenever we are stuck out on the wings and are a little unsure of what to do if we just kick it into that area we know Gardiner will be there, and we know he will at least provide a contest each time. Sampi stays at his feet.

Short possession style with players running into space for the short option. Don't wanna be afraid though to bomb into the forward line with Doogs and Seabs up there.

Back up Players:
Mark Nicoski - is the first small player picked for any injury to a small player (perhaps even for injury to a tall player). In essence, he will end up playing 15+ games if uninjured.
Drew Banfield - late year revival this year, and just couldnt fit him into the team. Like Nicoski, if his form holds up from this year he'll play most games.
Brett Jones - will be between him and Adam Hunter for that third tall defender spot.
Adam Selwood - continue to play more games than he misses. Could be developed as a tagger.
Rowan Jones - form is a bit all over the shop this year. dangerous when he's on song cause he goes undeteceted from the opposition.
Damien Adkins - makes or break year.
Ashley Hansen - first man in the team if a tall breaks down.
Josh Wooden - just fractionally out of the best 22.

Some excellent back up there

i would have to agree with black thunders 2005 line-up,
we definately have some good back-up but essentially our line-up, as always will depend the extent of injuries to which our team will be subject to

Hello fellow Eagle supporters!
Im new to the board and have just been reading some of the "best 22" teams for the Eagles in 2005!

Its such a tough call to pen down a team as we have such depth and youngters coming through the ranks... :)

Well here's my team...tell me what you think of it

B: WIRRPUNDA GLASS CHICK
HB: STENGLEIN LYNCH BANFIELD
C: BRAUN COUSINS KERR
HF: SAMPI GARDINER EMBLEY
F: SEABY McDOUGALL MATERA

FOLL: COX FLETCHER JUDD

I/C: STAKER (Could easily displace experienced Banfield or young gun Sampi, though needs to build-up and toughen up to hold a place down back or in the half forward flank position on a regular first team basis)

HUNTER (Is in the same boat as Brent, needs to get bigger and be quicker wit his disposal!) Could easily push Bands for a place in the 18 in the half back flank role.

WATERS (An excellent young player who has it all going for him, in my opinion edges out Nicoski and could quite easily challenge Hunter or Banfield for that inaugral first team place)

WOODEN (A very good back-up midfielder who came into career best form at the end of last season) In my opinion beats the likes of Selwood, Brett Jones however will be pushed by Butler, Nicoski, Rowan Jones.

Back up Players/Emergency:

1. Mark Nicoski - is the first small player picked for any injury to a small player down back. (Waters, Banfield, Hunter)

2. Sam Butler - A fantastic young talent, Easily my first midfield pick if someone were to get injured in the mid. Easily managed Cousins' role in the mid when Cuzzy was injured! Watch out Wooden!

3. Rowan Jones - form is a bit all over the shop this year. Dangerous when in form. Could easily push Wooden for a spot in the 22.

4. Ashley Hansen - First man in the team if a tall breaks down. Could easily push Brent Staker as he made a huge impact middle way through last season. unfortunately was injured.

5. Damien Adkins - Make or Break year for the Melbourne boy. Dashing Forward falnker and forward pocket rocker, though his forms comes in all shapes and sizes, needs to prove his consistency if he wishes to push the likes of Staker and Hansen for a place in the 22.

6. Adam Selwood - Haven't seen much of him, though could come good in seasons to come. Could be developed as a tagger.

7. Brett Jones - A great young player, however needs a year or two to bulk up and push for a consistent first team place. Butler, Nicosksi, Rowan Jones, Adkins beats him at the present time.

Some excellent back up there! Tough decisions for the West Coast Management!

PLEASE NOTE!

1. Embley (HF) could quite easily fill back into a wing position, let Kerr go into the ruck and play Judd at HF. A position that quite a few people have placed Judd

2. STENGLEIN, in my opinion cannot fit into the Eagles running Midfield and feel he will produce outstanding performances on the HB flank. I saw him tag Bell one match, amazing. Another pointer, Kerr, Braun, Embley will beat him for the wing spot

Note: he will play RHB flank with Lynch centre and LHB flank fought out between the likes of Banfield/Waters/Hunter/Staker (As i have mentioned above)

3. I feel Gardiner will be a little injury-prone this season and CHF might just be the spot for him instead of RUCK. However Cox and him will swap. Seaby will be the third man up in Foward 50 ball ups, etc.

3 cont...When Gardiner is in ruck, Cousins must be moved to on-baller and Flecther Centre midfield as Cuzzy and Gards have an unrivalled understanding of eachother. Seaby moved to CHF and Cox to FF Flank. Sampi stay as HF flank with Embley/Judd, etc.

Well please reply and tell my what you think of my predictions etc. I've spent ages tossing and turning to what I believe should be the 22 players that walk out and break the West Coast Eagles banner!

Go the Mighty Eagles!

How can you have Banners out of the side altogether after he played so well after coming back from injury last season? And Embley on the interchange must be a joke??
