according to my mate in singapore no one really cared about them. tickets given away through radio station promotions

Yep i have heard the same thing and as a self confessed fan of the NBL - the sooner they are gone the better. They bring nothing to the league and only create a higher level of expense to clubs.

Boot them out

Singapore are gone.

The Singapore government who decided to help fund the ailing club have heard the rumours that the club will be axed next year after the review is implemented and have now decided to stop funding the club. The Slingers are gonski

Dead – no longer in the competition – GONE

According to my source Aaron Bruce has signed (or will do in the next few days) with the Adelaide 36ers and Julius Hodge is a 95% certainty to stay in the NBA with the New Jersey Nets. Forget any talk about him going to the Tigers; it’s either the NBA or a NBA development league contract again for 12 months.

I heard this a couple of days ago that Aaron was close to signing with the sixers. Apparently he was all set to join the Dragons, but they couldn't wait any longer and signed Adam Gibson instead.

Very happy if Bruce does sign, IMO makes the sixers a Top 3 team now

Aaron Bruce excellent signing.

better finish top 4.

so that gives us:
C - Schensher
PF - Ballinger
SF - Holmes
SG - *IMPORT*
PG - Bruce

i like :)

The import will be a small forward swingman like Julies Hodge or a 4 man to offer more depth – like Matt Garrison but at this stage Brett Maher will start with Jake coming off the bench at the 6th man.

sweet if it is 3 points
don't know much about Bruce but
now we just need that last piece of the puzzle, the import
got my heart set on Julius but just can't see it happening now
what other imports are around that could fit in well?
from last year's imports there is Rashad Tucker, Jared Newson, Jason Crowe, Sean Lampley, Wayne Turner, Orien Greene, Derrick Alston, Gerald Brown, Joe Shipp, Mike Helms, Bakari Hendrix, Galen Young and Troy Devries that don't have teams.
Wouldn't mind Crowe or Greene or Newson or Turner to fill the SG spot we have vacant

Channel 10 news: Julius Hodge unlikely to play in the NBL next season.
Channel 9 news: Julius Hodge will likely play in the NBA... if it's the NBL, he's leaning towards the Melbourne Tigers.

Both news stations have said that the sixers have imports on stand-by, as Hodge will announce his decision soon i the next few days. Scott Ninnis said that the imports on stand-by are probably better than Hodge.

And Maher is an inury prone... it'd be better to bring him off the bench.

Better than Hodge???
surely not

If they were better than him why don't we just sign them then?

If Scott Ninnes did say that to the media it's no wonder that Julius would rather go to Melbourne then

Depends what he means by better. Julius is more offence orientated than anything so if he means better, as in all round better then I can see what he means. IMO Julius' signing isn't just about what he does on the court, it is also about the bums he will put on seats. Crowd averages went up after Julius signed with the sixers last season..... he is an exciting talent that supporters obviously liked to come and watch.

yeah he pulls the crowds that Willie used to when he was the exciting player
and like back when we had Darnell and KB
Julius may be offensive orientated, but with the line-up we have we need someone like him
someone who not only gets their own points offensively, but will also get the others involved
we have some good defensive players in Schensher, Cooper, Davidson and Jacob so we need someone who will combine well with Ballinger on the offensive end
our team seems a little too slow and lacks that real excitement factor that will involve our supporters

hi i kinda follow NBL (i went to heaps of blaze game last year) and im so disappointed at where th eleague is heading. im not so worried about singapore but to lose marquee teams such as the bullets and the kings is not a good look for any league, especially one that struggles as it its. i think what the major problem is that it is a feeder league, while other sports in australia such as AFL, rugby league, cricket have the best players in the world playing in australia. anyway i just thought i would add in my 2 cents in. also, that sydney spirit logo is hideous on soooo many levels. im a graphic artist and i was bored at work today so i came up with this in like 1/2 hour.

Sounds like the Melbourne Tigers are talking crap. Julius' manager apparently contacted Hoopshype and stated that the article in the Herald Sun was bullshit, as he or Julius had not verbally committed to the Tigers.

If Julius comes back to the NBL it will be with the Sixers and the only way it won't be is because they will have already have signed another Import.
