I think a big think in his favour making the interchange is he can play any position. He played a large chunk of this year in the midfield and still kicked his fair share of goals. Personally I think that's why he would have got the nod over someone like Bradshaw who was pretty damn unlucky to miss out.

If Pav had spent the year at CHF he would have been named as the AA CHF. If he spent the year in the midfield, he'd get a gig in the midfield for the AA team. You don't make the AA side 6 years running because you're not very good. The guy is a star. One day these other team supporters will realise it.

20 touches and over 2 goals a game.

If that's just 'ok', i'd hate to see what you consider 'great' for a flanker.

He was amazing last year, and probably because he wasn't as good this year, I might've been a tad harsh.

Don't discount Motlop though. 50+ goals as well, in a poor side.

imo harley should have been named captain and judd vice captain. but i think the reason why the selectors (wrongly) opted for judd was because he is a higher profile and in 20 years time it'll probably look better than whatit would have been had it been harley. that's just my spin on it, could be wrong but i can't think of any other reason why they would pick judd ahead of harley.

Two Freo players is a farce.

Why in god's name do they have to pick 2 ruckman?

This isn't an actual side going out to play, pick the 22 most deserving.

So bad teams don't have good players?

Maybe we should just wait until after the GF and name the 22 of the winning team as the AA side?

I'm sure everyone of the 22 selected deserves their place, including Sandilands.

Not quite true they can manage to find a spot for Pav on the team even if he never set foot in that position all year.

Stevie J beats medhurst in Goal Assists, Goals and Tackles. Mdhurst beat Motlop in both categories you mentioned...

Thanks mate, in my excitement over Paul getting a jumper, I missed the fact that Steve Johnson also made the side :p

Congratulations & bad luck to Motlop, like I said earlier, really a toss of the coin.

Well done to all the players named :thumbsu:

If he was playing for a Victorian side then people would see that. Let's face it people on here comment on what they see, and Freos exposure there is somewhat limited.

I know most people will bag out Medders

So over the moon he made it really deserved it did everything right and had about 5 different roles to play during the year because of injuries at one stage he was a forward pocket then started being a HFF/MID then had to be our main FF because of injuries so great to see shows if you work hard things happen for you

On that basis, Richo should have been a shoe-in as a starter. Just another farcical decision re the AA - it is THE SINGLE GREATEST WASTE OF TIME OF THE SEASON. There is all this fanfare about a team which doesn't play anyone and which has about 30-50 blokes stiff to miss out - CAN ANYONE EXPLAIN THE POINT OF IT???

Andrew Demetriou (chairman), Adrian Anderson, Rod Austin, Kevin Bartlett, Mark Bickley, Gerard Healy, Glen Jakovich, Robert Walls

Well there's the problem right there. They're administrative people. Why the hell should they have a say in picking the team of the year?

Closest to perfect I have ever seen an AA side.

Would make Harley captain and have a mid make way for Mitchell, but it is a very well selected, well balanced side with no absolutely horrendous decisions

He was amazing last year, and probably because he wasn't as good this year, I might've been a tad harsh.

His 2007 is irrelevant to this, though.

All the matters is that he averaged 20 touches and more than 2 goals, which surpasses the performance of any other flanker in the game.

Totally different types.

Motlop plays close to goal, as his teams first option.
Steve Johnson is a flanker who rotates through the midfield.

For Johnson to kick 50 goals despite spending a stack of time up the ground is remarkable, and shows just how very good he has been in 2008.

B: Dale Morris - Matthew Scarlett - Tom Harley (vc)
HB: Luke Hodge - Nathan Bock - Sam Fisher
C: James Bartel - Joel Corey - Adam Cooney
HF: Steven Johnson - Nick Riewoldt - Brent Harvey
F: Brendan Fevola - Lance Franklin - Paul Medhurst
R: Dean Cox - Chris Judd (c) - Gary Ablett Jnr
I/C: Corey Enright - Matthew Pavlich - Matthew Richardson -Aaron Sandilands

That's a pretty impressive team IMO, regardless of who has been left out. :thumbsu::thumbsu:

A few stiff ones to miss out, but there always is every year.
