Re: The Official 2008 BigFooty Mock Draft

hmmm, not pleased, this is the reason i prefer to have regulars in it, looking back into his post history he has hardly posted on the American Football board

if he hasnt posted it soon, i'll either do it myself or simply go into five or so random mock drafts around the internet and see who most people are picking for the pats

Re: The Official 2008 BigFooty Mock Draft

Sorry guys, just moved back to uni, been a very hectic period. Back on a shit computer and finding it hard to get on here. I'll do this pick but happy for tohers to take my last if I can't get on here enough for you guys these days.

Any how, with pick 7,
The Pats select Leodis McKelvin, Troy State.

With Samuel gone it's important we pick a CB with our first pick. Would have been very close to selecting Gholston, but with him off the table I think picking up McKelvin is our best bet. The other CB that was of interest was Mike Jenkins, but I think McKelvin is the better choice of the two at this stage, with the biggest swaying factor a few question marks over some off field issues with McKelvin.

Re: The Official 2008 BigFooty Mock Draft

Damn, with Matt Ryan off the board I was hoping McKelvin would fall to us as CB is probably our second biggest need behind QB, and no other QB is worthy of taking in the first round.

In the REAL draft, if we were in this position with McFadden falling to #8 ideally Ozzie would cut a deal to trade down here with a team in need of a RB. Teams that might be interested include Arizona, Houston, Seattle or obviously Dallas who seem to love McFadden.

However as it is in this mock draft with no trading, i have to pick. With McGahee already on the team it doesnt seem a smart move to invest too much money into the RB position although the temptation is really there.

In the end it comes down to LT Ryan Clady or a CB, of which it is tough to decide which one. It is not improbable that up to 5 CBs could go in Round 1 and of these 5 there is no clear order.

In the end...

With Pick #8 the Baltimore Ravens select...

CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie Tennessee State

At 6-1 1/2 he has good size and is the quickest of the top 5 rated CBs with a timed 4.33 40 yard dash which he shows with a quick closing burst. Has long arms which he uses effectively along with his good agility to be a playmaker. Is not yet a complete player and may lack something in run support, and also add some weight but has terrific upside and will help replace ageing stars McAllister and Rolle and also add to some questionable depth at the position. He was taken over Talib and Jenkins in the end primarily due to a) his size and b) he has no character issues as compared to the other two who do.

Re: The Official 2008 BigFooty Mock Draft

The Bengals needs as I see it are on the defensive line, at linebacker and possibly on the offensive line.

The loss of Justin Smith at DE hurts, but they partly filled this need with the signing of Antwan Odom from Tennessee and the options available at this position at this point in the draft aren't quite worth it here.

Linebacker is a big issue. They already struggled here, Johnson signing with the Panthers hurts even more and must be addressed either here or at least in another first day pick.

The other option is to solidify Palmer's blindside and take OT Ryan Clady who is good value at #9 and could easily go as early as #5 to the chiefs.

Darren McFadden would be nice, but in reality their offence is not the issue and in order to take the next step they need to address the defence side of the ball, so...

In the end...

With Pick #9 the Cincinatti Bengals select...

OLB Keith Rivers USC

The Outside Linebacker really needed addressing more so then the O-Line. Keith Rivers has great size for an OLB and 6-2 1/4 and 240 lbs. He has excellent athleticism, is tough and works hard. Some weaknesses such as not always wrapping up and doesnt always take on blockers, but this can be worked on. Should be a good addition to a weakish defence.

Re: The Official 2008 BigFooty Mock Draft

lol I was hoping being a rather informal mock draft either of those two boys would drop my ways... It was wishful thinking but now I am pissed lol

Surprised Cromartie when as early as 8 though.. .Touted as 25-31 is the real draft isn't he?

Yeh, was a tough one really

Baltimore tend to go BPA in round 1, but i find it hard to believe they would draft McFadden given all the money we have invested in McGahee ($40m over 7 years)

Based on need we want a QB, but Brohm would be a reach at #8, i am hoping that Ryan can fall to us.

Clady would be great value at #8 IMO, but i think one of Gaither or Terry can do a good enough job there.

CB however is an issue, we have started to get burnt a bit. McAllister and Rolle are ageing and the names Martin, Pittman and Ivy don't inspire great confidence, so i have more gone need than BPA.

This is where Rodgers-Cromartie goes in a number of mocks:
The Hazean - 27. SD
Scout.com Chris Steuber - 30. GB
MyNFLDraft.com - 22. Dal
Consensus Draft - 22. Dal
NFL Mock Draft - 27. SD
D&J Mock Draft - 22. Dal
FFExtreme - 17. Min
NFL Draft Prospects - 21. Was
East Coast Sports - predicts Bal trade down to Denver's spot at 12 and take DRC
Junkyard Jake - 20. TB
Walter Football - 7. NE
199 Overall - 18. Hou
NFL Draft Specialist - 15. Det
New NFL Draft - 28. Dal
NFL Draft Countdown - 19. Phi

So yeh, might be seen as a bit of a reach, but the general consensus across the board is that he has as high a ceiling as any player in this draft. It's a risk reward situation but i'm sure in 2 or 3 years he'll be as good as his cousin.

Re: The Official 2008 BigFooty Mock Draft

Interesting draft so far. I was sure one of the last 3 would still be on the board.

McFadden still on the board at #10?

Can I trade down? Anyone got Jerry Jones number? :D

Shit I'm tempted . . . Deuce coming off a knee, Reggie can always line up in the slot . . . Stecker and Thomas the only other options.

Nah, screw that, draft for need & too much already tied up in the position . . .

With the #10 pick the New Orleans Saints pick:

Aqib Talib, CB, Kansas

Re: The Official 2008 BigFooty Mock Draft

Out of interest JD how do you rate the top 5 CB in the draft, its a deep class this year and teams can still easily get talent in the second round, personally i rate it:

1. Leodis McKelvin
2. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie
3. Mike Jenkins
4. Aqib Talib
5. Antoine Cason

I guess what i'm getting at is would you have taken DRC if he was still on the board ahead of Talib?

Re: The Official 2008 BigFooty Mock Draft

Well there goes another one off my wishlist :p

Not the most pressing matter but would have been worth an early draft pick...

I don't think Cromartie would be a bad early choice d... A very good one infact... Has the makings of a champ...

Yeah I'd agree with that except a toss up between 2&3. I'd be happy with any of those TBH given our need at the position.

If McFadden was still there at #10, it wouldn't surprise me at all if we drafted . . . a WR.

Re: The Official 2008 BigFooty Mock Draft

Imo, no way McFadden slips past NY Jets at the very most.
I could even see Miami taking him #1 as Parcells said when hired he didn't like Ronnie Brown.
Or Raiders at #4 (via trading M.Bush out).
But Jets for sure at #6.
Because if he goes past Jets, NE could easily take him. Or, there's like some bizarre fall all the way down the draft board to like the teens. Which I think is impossible to happen. No way.

But Im not trying to criticize anyone's mock draft picks so far!!

Agree, given what happened with AD last year i believe a fall like is happening in our mock isn't going to happen.

Whether Miami or Oakland take him, i don't know, but no way on earth the Jets don't take him IMO. That offense needs an X-Factor, who do they have? Laverneus Coles, Jerricho Cotchery, Chad Pennington, Kellen Clemens, Thomas Jones, Leon Washington etc. No one that exactly makes you go wow IMO.

Jones is solid but won't win you games, whilst Washington is a good third down/passing back.

DMac would be huge for them and i just can't see them passing on him.

Sorry, I meant by that it's the order I think they'll go.

I like Talib over Jenkins for the limited amount I've seen, but like I said I'd be happy with any of the top CB's in the draft.

Re: The Official 2008 BigFooty Mock Draft

Dspeed, I think the faller is gonna be Dorsey actually. There aren't very good reports of him being healthy. Talk is already that Gholston and C.Long could both go top 5. J.Long probably to St Louis, Oakland or Chiefs. M.Ryan possibly #3. McFadden also a top 5/6 for sure. So that leaves Dorsey with his health problems to plummet.
