2010 Giro d'Italia

You will find that over the next few seasons a lot of people will choose California over the Giro as TDF preparations as Vader said.

I mean, Leipheimer loves this race than any other race so RadioShack were always going to bring their A squad as they didn't want to do the Giro.

Columbia were always going to send Rogers, who is riding well and Cav, who loves Cali.

Boonen was always going to go to cali.

Hincapie loves California. He was always going to go there regardless of if Evans was in form for the Giro. It would have taken big incentives for Hincapie to ride the Giro.

And there is no way Andy Schleck would have done the Giro - California is the best race for him.

It was a smart move from California organisers. Very smart. Credit to them for having the balls to do it.

And Roman...

and Sagan.

Funny to see the peloton fail to reel the break in last night.

Next three days promise some good attacking racing.

It's great to get a lot of the big names, but it will be a two-tiered race.

They just sat up and waited for someone to lead the sprint out. The 3 in front thought they'd be dragged in but the peloton were asleep. Always nice to see a break away succeed every now and then.

They just went through the mud. There are groups everywhere.

Cadel and Vino in the front group, only around 10-15 riders. Then Sastre (i think), Basso and Nibali in the chase group, also around 10-15 riders. Gap, with 20km to go is 1 minute 30 seconds.

Wow, it's chaos. Sastre has fallen off the Nibali group. The Nibali group (which contains Basso) is 1.40 behind Vino and Evans. Vino driving that front group.

Gartzelli also in that front group, he's got a team mate doing a fair bit of work also.

Moncoutie or Simoni could go stage hunting tomorrow. They sat back today. Though Simoni will be targeting a stage in the third week.

Moncoutie to attack the break group at the start of the climb and go solo to the end with the main GC guys coming in around a minute or so behind him.
