saw him at the club today, is looking leaner and more toned, is the new poster boy for geelong on the membership flyers, will be completing his first pre season hopefully over the summer.

what do people think is in store for the high leaping 21 year old next year?

Probably 50 or so goals, maybe more if he can sort out his set shots. He showed really good signs in 09, especially in the second half of the year. He has all the physical attributes to really make his mark on the competition; fantastic height, excellent leap, good pair of hands... It's taken him a while to find his feet but once he really learns how to impose himself on a match and use his strengths he will be very difficult to stop. His forward pressure improved out of sight this year, probably an underrated aspect of his game.

Needs to find some confidence in his goalkicking, though, although looking at his stats for the season 34 goals 17 behinds ain't all that bad in terms of accuracy, granted that obviously doesn't account for all the times he kicked it out on the full.

40-45 goals a minimum.

55-65 should be his target with the delivery he's getting.

when you talk about delivery he is getting and the quality of service coming down, i think you have to also take into account that hawkins is not being used as the main target as yet, the way geelong set up isnt for a 10 goal showstage from one player, but a scatter of 2-3 from players across the ground.

i think considering the sort of preparation at AFL level he has had, i am very impressed with his performance so far, is yet to have a full pre season at AFL level in his 3 seasons, has had on going stress problems in his legs, had his leg in a brace all of last pre season.

this one coming up will hopefully be his first proper pre season, so i am looking forward to big things.

i am mates with benny griffiths, poor bloke is shattered, has gone from a junior career of injury issues, to a club that doesnt know how to train juniors.

he is very concerned about his career.
Suuuuuure you are:rolleyes:

Don't rate him at all. Most over hyped player since Nathan Ablett.

Agreed.

He can't be overhyped if nobody rates him in the first place.

Actually this is probably more accurate.

He's an average / fair forward who just happens to play for one of the best teams in history.

Would likely be well down the pecking order for anyone picking the leagues premier forwards.

gc . . most players won't have a full pre-season until their third or fourth year. Tomahawk is no different.

He's about as good as Jay Neagle.

quite wrong here, unless injured, every player has a full pre season, hawkins has had a injury problem every pre season, has really restricted him.

everyone knows, that without a good pre season, you cant perform anywhere near your best, let alone not even having one at all, generally takes a couple of good ones to get a youngster going, especially a tall forward.

to demonstrate the importance of a good pre season, just look at lance franklin, went from a 100 goal FF, to a 60 goal FF the next year, all because he had his first intterupted pre season, he was 40 goals less a player.

played cricket with him down at heatherdale for years, the poor bloke is literally gutted.
And for the past 18 months I've been partying with Tiger Woods. Oh well, it all had to come to an end sooner or later.
Leave Griffiths out of it you flog. If you do know him, which I doubt, I'm sure he'd be rapt to have 'mates' like you.

He is a terrible kick..

He will kick more behinds than goals

i will admit, the worst of hawkins kicking, has been attrocious at best, absolutely awful, but i dont believe he is a bad kick at all, it is his mind set which is behind the helicopter punts.

i believe it came down to just his confidence, in the finals, he did kicked some very very good goals, from long distances and tough angles, kicked probly one of the most important goals of the year at the start of the last qtr in the grand final to level it.
