Bellchambers? Isn't even in the same league as Goldstein....

Amazing pickup by North in the 3rd round.

Bellchambers still deserves to be on this list, I reckon he's the 3rd best of this lot.

Fair analysis although the odds of Renouf and Hampson playing 200 would be very very slim personally.
Agree. You'd typically have to play for 10+ years (factoring injuries, suspension, rested, etc) to reach 200 games, and I don't see either of them with enough talent based on what they've shown so far to be retained in the system for 10+ years.

He was very good tonight against the Doggies. Took some really strong grabs around the ground and showed up his more experienced counterparts in the ruck contests.
McEvoy's game against Collingwood last week was even better, with career-high stats for hitouts, marks, and possessions. His marking around the ground is terrific and if his ruckwork catches up with that side of his game we'll be very happy indeed. He's becoming a "markologist" around the ground.
Will be very interesting to see where he's mainly played if Gardiner comes back in a couple of weeks, as hoped. We could do with McEvoy's marking in the forward line.

Even more amazing for Freo then given that Sandi was also a 3rd round Rookie Draft pick.

Agreed. Some of the best ruckmen in the game at the moment were fairly late picks(Cox, pick #28 in the 2000 Rookie Draft, Sandilands, pick #33 in the 2001 Rookie Draft, Jamar, #6 in the 2001 Rookie Draft, Goldstein, pick #37 in the 2006 Draft, Mumford, pick #57 in the 2007 Draft).

Goldstein and Leuenberger are vying for the mantle of best young ruckman in the competition. Goldy has the front position at the moment.

Goldstein is the best pure ruckman I have seen at North in 30 years.

He will be a star. No doubt about it.

Goldstein takes Smith tonight. It will be interesting viewing.

Yeah, a lot depends on how much game time they have, particularly in the ruck. With McIntosh the #1 ruck Goldy didn't have a lot of time in the ruck.

The interesting thing will be what we will do now with McIntosh.

Ruckmen seem to rise when extra responsibility is place upon them.

One and a half years on, Goldstein has moved well ahead. Berger looking pretty good. Renouf stalled by injury but was promising early in the season and Hampson has found his niche but will not be in the class of the other three.

1. Goldstein (pick 37)
2. Berger (pick 4)
3. Renouf (pick 24)
4. Hampson (pick 17)

2006 still looks like a good year for rucks. All 4 look certain to play 200+.

Thing is, with every game Goldy plays, his ceiling just gets higher. When HMac comes back, jeez, look out.

Matthew Kreuzer returns tomorrow.

Hopefully he can get back to his pre-injury form (if not improve on it) and be considered one of the best young ruckmen going around in the game.

Saw Kruezer first game back in the magoos a few weeks ago. Even though he was clearly lacking match fitness, just a class above everyone else. I rate him hugely.

Begs the question, do you bother drafting a ruckman with an early round pick, considering that it takes so long to develop a ruckman? I think NicNat is an exception to this, as he offers supreme athleticism and a special quality that isn't present in ruckmen at 18 years old.

Seems most clubs are having great success with late draft picks (Goldstein, Mumford) or through the rookie draft (Jamar, Sandilands), or recruiting from another club (Jolly, Mumford).

Good problem to have.

Dont know why, but North seems to have had an abundance of ruck talent over the past 10 years. Goldstein, McIntosh, Hale, Petrie as a pinch-hitter, Daw, hopefully.

Wayde Skipper spent 10 seasons on an AFL list (playing 60 of a possible 229 games), and he didn't have the advantage of being 200cm+ like either of those players, or have the athleticism of Hampson. Anything is possible.

Is this the same Bellchambers that was forced out of the side by Ryder? Wow Ryder could not blow the fluff off a hot chocolate. Hopefully he comes back in this week and you will see just how far behind he is.

That's actually a pretty amazing stat given how much more scrutiny clubs put their lists under than back in the days when you could have 50+ players hanging around for a game. Another one like that was Luke O'Sullivan, hung around Carlton's list for about 10 years for not much better.

Sorry for derail

Hampson has improved a lot in the last month or so, having appeared to relish the responsibility of being first ruck.

Obviously still learning his craft but his athleticism is very impressive...

Goldstein is a freak.

In order I would most like to have at the Demons out of the young ruckmen.

1. Matt Kruezer
2. Zac Smith
3. Nic Naitanui
4. Todd Goldstein
5. Matt Luenburger
6. Nathan Vardy
7. Tom Bellchambers
8. Ben McEvoy
9. Shaun Hampson
10. Brent Renouf
