Bernie Vince

I wanted to get your opinion on Bernie Vince. Looks like he is going through a rough patch on and off the field.

At his best he could match it with anyone, he also stated in 2009 or 2010 that his main influence was Simon Goodwin.

He is 25 (from memory) so he isn't too old and he can add that extra class in the midfield we desire.

What would we be willing to give up for him ?

Re: Bernie Vince

Good call. Could be worth a gamble, as his best is VERY good. Our midfield could do with a ready made player that can carry and dispose of the ball well. Would take some pressure of Stants. Sure his last couple of year's haven't been much to write home about, but 13 votes in the 2009 Brownlow shows what he is capable of.

Would have no hesitation in giving up a pick in the 20's and another later pick if needed to suffice.

Re: Bernie Vince

Would cost too much, and my main issue is- his breakout year was playing across the backline with stints in the mid, now whilst elite ones are great, how many do we need? Is he going to be an elite mid? I have my doubts. Would rather take a risk on Taylor Walker. My personal view is that we should see what a few players are on the open market- namely Stanton, Slattery, Winderlich, etc. I'm not saying trade, I am saying see what their value is!

I think he is off to GWS, i mean what can we offer that they wont top ?

A chance to play in a premiership sooner than them. We have cap space

Chance to play with one of the biggest clubs in Melbourne? Play in front of massive crowds, coached by a great champion and have a 2 time premiership winning assistant coach.

Pfft No no no no....Anyone that drinks at the footy doesnt have a brain, and isn't very devoted to his craft, talented yes, but the desire isn't there to fulfill it....

Bernie vince is the man, I'd target him maybe a new stint would freshen him up and he has proven he can get the ball and use it.......I'd also have a crack at Ryan Griffen or Shaun Higgins, Boak or any Port Adelaide players with potential, Kane Lucas from carlton. You'd also be looking at a swarm of gold coast boys that cant get a game, they have to de-list 8 players next year....

Re: 2011 Official Draft/Trade Discussion Thread

Would definitely look at Vince - Enough quality - if he can sort out his off-field issues.

My major concern is to grab one of the 17yrs from GWS - Happy to give up quality - Get one of these guns and Joe Daniher - Touch wood - Could set up the next 5 to 7 years.

That statement is completely ridiculous. I drink at the footy, so does that mean I'm not devoted to school? Of course not! People drink, get over it.

Re: 2011 Official Draft/Trade Discussion Thread

We don't need Higgins.

Look at it this way. We have Zaharakis, Jetta, Monfries and Winderlich who can play that HF/C type role. Looking at the best 22 (IMO):

Fletcher-Pears-Hardingham
Dempsey-Hooker-Heppell
Stanton-Watson-McVeigh
Monfries-Hille-Jetta
Crameri-Hurley-Zaharakis
Ryder-Howlett-Myers
Winderlich-Lonergan-Slattery-Melksham

What we need is another key defender, which I have a feeling that Carlisle will take over from when Fletch retires and another A-Grade midfielder. I feel that Melksham, Zaharakis, Myers, Jetta and Heppell can all fill that role soon enough. Hibberd to replace Spike when he retires, T-Bell to replace Hille and hopefully Carlisle to replace Fletcher. That side would look something like:

Carlisle-Pears-Hardingham
Dempsey-Hooker-Hibberd
Stanton-Watson-Heppell
Monfries-Ryder-Jetta
Crameri-Hurley-Zaharakis
Bellchambers-Howlett-Myers
Winderlich-Lonergan-Slattery-Melksham

And I would back that side in to win a flag in 5 years :thumbsu:

Re: 2011 Official Draft/Trade Discussion Thread

If the people we expect can come on, we're still a class midfielder short. That should be the goal over the next couple of years, either through drafting or trading.

Re: 2011 Official Draft/Trade Discussion Thread

Mid 2nd rounder is about right for Monfries.

Not sure if Bombersno1 is taking the piss with her late 4th round if we are lucky call.

Really rediculous huh? relating professionally paid athletes who run upto 18kms a game to school work . I tell you son like the commentators have said, if you are having a beer at 12 in the afternoon your not just having one, your having plenty. And from experience I can run the Tan in melbourne in about 18 minutes, if I have a few beers the night before It takes me 20 minutes with a few chunders along the way...... Im then dehydrated and it takes a couple of days before I feel good again.

So lets back to your school hypothesis???? the day before an exam do you have a few beers???

As I said talented footballer, but the devotion to football isn't there which is why he isn't in the firsts... so don't get over it you amateur, get with the program.

Re: Bernie Vince

I dunno about Higgins. Do we need another injury prone bloke?

Isn't that why we give them gumby for him. No your probably right we don't need another injury prone player but if you can get him fit and firing I think he can have a Ben Cousins like impact, of course he would need to get that fitness base.

Also doesnt matter who your get there is likely to be some baggage about them. Juddy had terrible groins, ablett wouldnt be able to cope with a heavier tag. Luke Ball, Brad ottens, Barry Hall, Stewie dew, mark williams LoL.

Maybe Higgins isn't the answer but extremely talented, kicks goals and in a situation that makes him vulnerable for trading along with Griffen.

I am dead serious, we might get a lowish 3rd rounder but he is nowhere near the value on the open market that we think. Put it this way he is one dimensional, now whilst good, he has failed in the midfield countless times, so who will pay top dollar for a defensive forward? Come on, I would love to know. We all love Gus, but he is way more value to us (as we don't have a better option) than he is on the open market.
