So we have some new coaches we have some coaches that have been around a bit, we have coaches who need to show something in 2011 or it maybe the end, so guess this thread is simple from 1-17 best to worst coaches in 2011:thumbsu:

Ive already had some craziness posted on this subject on another board:confused:

The only good coaches in the AFL are Mick, Ross and Clarko, the rest are either unproven, shite or a bit of both.
Because he has won so many flags right? The difference between losing grand finals and winning them could be the coach. He is merely average.

So average that I reckon your club will sound out his manager this year.

This year Brad Scott will show that he has improved and also alot of people are saying that james hird is the key to the bomber and they are going to make the 8 this year!!! Dream on!! everyone will want his Head by at least round 9

11. Ummm how is Matthew Primus more proven than all the other first year coaches??

12. How do you place Michael Voss above Damien Hardwick? He has set that club back 5 years with his inept drafting.

Yes you're right, he is merely average. Lucky to even be considered that, what with one of the all time best career winning percentages and all.

Winning percentage? You don't heard Essendon and Carlton fans bleating on about their winning % over the past 100+ years? I reckon less than 5% could tell you waht it was without googling it. But 95% plus could tell you how many premierships they've won.

Winning % is meaningless unless you convert it to flags.

1. Malthouse
2. Thompson
3. Lyon
4. Hird
5. Craig

Would be the top 5. Expect Hird to rise in the not too distant future.

So you put 4 coaches who have to extract the digit or go to Centerlink ahead of Scott who had a pretty solid first year with 11 wins with a team of kids, interesting. You also put Bailey ahead of him who has taken 3 years to win as many games as Scott did in his first. We did this despite having heavy injuries last year.

Either he is no good or our list is ****ing amazing.

Mark Harvey could be a genius. Inherited garbage, cleaned the lot out and started again. Punch above our weight and ahead of our timeline. Very good on gameday and the experimentation this pre season may yet give us an advantage with the sub rule.

And yet what has he actually achieved???

This year people again may rate him higher, but srsly it is hard to rate a guy who has coached an average team for 1 year above a coach who has taken his side to a flag.

I would rate Scott above Bailey (from that list) but thats it.

Harvey has transformed a list at Fremantle and taken perenial bottom dwellers to finals material. Heck they would probably top 4 material with a fully fit list.

Ratten has at least achieved two consecutive finals appearances and Craigs approach to training and fitness has been credited with being a decicive factor in Adelaides two premierships, whilst his record as senior coach in the mid 2000's is excelent.

If we are going by performance only and not rumour/potential it is hard to rate Eade or Lyon above Clarko and Worsfold, considering both have coached teams to premierships.

The last couple of years has seen an enormous amount of experience disappear from the head coaching ranks. Thompson, Roos, Choco etc. have all traded in the top job for lesser rolls.

I also think the role of the "head coach" has slowly changed. The trend seems to be that they are becoming more of a spokesperson/motivator/general head of footballing operations, surrounded by specialist assistants who take care of the training, tactical and sometimes gameday aspects of coaching (at least thats the way appears in the Essendon box;)).
