Priddis will be injured by round 1. Just a feeling I have.

Or out of favour.

Wishful thinking? :)

Can't see him being out of favour, seems to be a favourite and has a good work ethic which will put him in good stead during the preseason.

We can afford it to mix it up a bit though, there's also Ash Smith. We've got a lot more versality with these guys.

can't understand anyone leaving schofield out of the team.

for mine he showed more down back this season than mackenzie, spangher, brown or wilkes... might be a bit harsh but you could even throw glass in there.

Fools.

Priddis is unequivocally best 22 and the best extractor we have by far. Even better than Cobb from Inception. Best 22 every day of the week.

Butler Glass Scooter
Waters MacKenzie Hurn
Sheppard Priddis Embley
Strijk Kennedy Ebert
LeCras Wilson Naitanui
Cox Kerr Shuey

A. Selwood, Schofield, Rosa, Masten

Somethin lie dat

Spangher, Glass, Emac
Butler, Schofield, Waters
Rosa, Kerr, Hurn
Strijk, Kennedy, Embley
LeCras, Wilson, Hams

Cox, Priddis, Shuey

Int; Naitanui, Sheppard, S.Selwood, A. Selwood

Hopefully some good additions to this squad as I don't like the look of it still.

This isn't a best 22 thread.

For the record though I had him in my Rd 1 team so I'm not arguing that he's no good.

Full-Backs:
Darren Glass, Eric MacKenzie, Sam Butler

MacKenzie's defensive attributes have impressed me this year so much so that I would be happy for him to take the number one forward each week and have Glass play on the resting ruck or the more lumbering tall targets (who he tends to dominate). Sammy Butler if fit will always be in my side - a good user of the ball.

Half-Backs:
Shannon Hurn, Will Schofield, Adam Selwood

Schofield to hold down CHB where the opposition doesn't have a dominant CHF otherwise Glass and MacKenzie to hold down the key positions and Schofield to the 3rd tall. Hurn with Butler will be our main running players from defence and Adam Selwood to be the lock down small/medium defender to play a purely defensive role on attacking half forward/midfield types such as Paul Chapman and Alan Didak.

Midfield:
Dean Cox, Daniel Kerr, Luke Shuey
Andrew Embley, Matt Priddis, Matt Rosa

Cox is still our number 1 ruck although I foresee the ruck has just about being shared 50/50 with Naitanui. Kerr and Priddis to be the extractors, Embley and Rosa the outside wing type players and Shuey to mix and match through the middle and half forward, hopefully being the main player to bring the ball inside the forward 50.

Half Forwards:
Andrew Strijk, Josh Kennedy, Brad Ebert

Strijk should be a priority upgrade and I would expect both he and Ebert would get stints through the middle as well as across half forward. Josh Kennedy is a lock at CHF.

Full Forwards:
Ashton Hams, Callum Wilson, Mark LeCras

Still not convinced on Wilson to be honest but he has shown more than Brown, Lynch and Hansen in that position so has to get the nod (and I think will be upgraded at the end of this season). Hams to stay on the rookie list and then be the pre-season upgrade. LeCras for obvious reasons.

Interchange:
Scott Selwood, Beau Waters, Nick Naitanui, Brad Sheppard

Selwood would go through the midfield rotations. Sheppard to spend time on the wing and across half back. Waters to go wherever required and NickNat obviously to rotate with Cox with occasional stints up forward.

If the situation demanded another tall (either end of the ground) than Mitch Brown to get the nod, Masten, Smith and Swift probably next in line if smalls are required.

So in summary:

Darren Glass, Eric MacKenzie, Sam Butler
Shannon Hurn, Will Schofield, Adam Selwood

Dean Cox, Daniel Kerr, Luke Shuey
Andrew Embley, Matt Priddis, Matt Rosa

Andrew Strijk, Josh Kennedy, Brad Ebert
Ashton Hams, Callum Wilson, Mark LeCras

Scott Selwood, Beau Waters, Nick Naitanui, Brad Sheppard

I totally forgot about Dalziell. Bit of internal pressure on the midfield and defence this pre-season.

Looking forward to having KERR in the team again (how many times have we said that now?).

Sorry, I didn't realise best 22 and Round 1 lineup were mutually exclusive.

Didn't say they were, but there is a difference.

Priddis may be more adept than say Ebert, Stevens, Masten, Swift etc at this stage, but may not be seen as the answer going forward.

Pretty bloody simple really.

I don't see why we wouldn't want our best 22 on the park for round 1? Unless you guys already know the team and starting lineup we'll be playing against next year and have, as such, adjusted for matchups.

Otherwise best 22 is what we should be aiming for, for Round 1 next year.

Waters, Glass, B.Jones
Hurn, McKenzie, Butler
Rosa, Priddis, Embley
Lynch, Kennedy, Nicoski
LeCras, Wilson, Masten

Cox, Kerr, A.Selwood

Int: Nicnat, S Selwood, Shuey, Brown

Now on a more serious note it's one of Priddis or Kerr and one of Butler and Waters.

Best 22 is dependent on team balance/total output. One dimensional players have negative effects across the board and should be judged accordingly, not just on stats.

Darren Glass, Eric MacKenzie, A.Selwood
Shannon Hurn, Will Schofield, B.Waters
Andrew Embley - Daniel Kerr - Matt Rosa
Andrew Strijk, Josh Kennedy, L. Shuey
A.Hams, Callum Wilson, Neates

Rk: Dean Cox - LeCras - S.Selwood (tag)

IC: Swift/Priddis, A.Smith/Butler/Masten, Nick Naitanui, Brad Sheppard/Ebert

When you're trying to build a flag side you don't always nevessarily go with best 22. This is a common knowledge concept.

Some people don't want to go best 22 and want to leave certan players out because they believe the quickest route to flag contention is not playing best 22.

B: Smith, Glass, Schofield
HB: Hurn, Mackenzie, Waters

C: Embley, Priddis, Sheppard

HF: Shuey, Kennedy, Strijk
FF: Hams, Wilson, LeCras

R: Naitanui, Masten, Kerr

I/C: Ebert, Cox, S.Selwood, Stevens

E: Brown, Swift, Rosa, A.Selwood, Butler, Neates

That's my preferred team based on where we need to go in the future.

However the reality is that Rosa and A.Selwood will be in at the expense of probably Stevens and Smith.

Ash Smith, Darren Glass, Will Schofield
Brad Sheppard , Eric Mackenzie, Sam Butler
Shannon Hurn, Matt Priddis, Matt Rosa
Andrew Strijk, Josh Kennedy, Beau Waters
Mark Le Cras, Callum Wilson, Ashton Hams

Dean Cox , Luke Shuey, Daniel Kerr

Int -Nic Naitanui , S. Selwood, Ebert, Masten

no way would A Selwood be left out if fit .............. but for who??

What if Woosha wants to start strong by playing our oldest possible team :D

B: Jones, Glass, Wilkes
HB: Waters, Spangher, Butler
C: Rosa, Priddis, Embley
HF: Nicoski, Kennedy, Lynch
FF: LeCras, Hansen, McKinely
Foll: Cox, A. Selwood, Kerr
I/C: Dalziell, Brown, Hurn, Mackenzie

Premiers 2011

haha but in all seriousness, what if Woosha decides to take players returning from injury such as Dalziell and Nicoski into consideration? We could be pretty disappointed come round 1!

Everyone seems to be assuming that Strijk and Hams will be upgraded at the seasons end. They are first year rookies whilst stevenson, sullivan and wilson MUST be upgraded in order to retain.

If i recall correctly we have the opportunity to upgrade 1 rookie at the start of the season and another at midway. Correct me if im wrong. Hence i think Strijk is the better player at this stage and will be upgraded for round 1 whilst we will wait on Hams until mid season or an injury with a gamble that Neates/Weedon/Draft will produce a good forward pocket over the pre season.

So from that i see the line up being the following

Smith Glass Butler
Hurn MacKenzie Sheppard
Rosa Priddis Ebert
Embley Kennedy Strijk
LeCras Wilson Neates

Cox Kerr Shuey

A Selwood S Selwood NicNat Swift

I think Stevenson and Wilson would be promoted and Sullivan delisted and redrafted onto rookie list if we were still keen. Strijk/Hams promoted at start of the year and the other to be promoted when the near-certain long term injury occurs. See Brown last year, Kerr/Houlihan this year..
