2012 Brisbane Lions Pre-Season (No DT/SC questions)

Now that pre-season has begun (or prepreseason as Hawksley called it on Twitter) I thought we could use our usual pre-season discussion thread.

The boys had a 3km time trial session this morning @ UQ to blow out the cobwebs and to presumably set some baselines for improvement over the upcoming pre-season.

Newell beat home McKeever & Stiller for the 1st 3km title.

They leave this arvo for Noosa for a week long camp similar sounding to last year. Public training session times here.

Did anyone head out this morning? Is anyone heading out to see them when they're up the Coast?

Re: The 2012 Brisbane Lions Pre-Season Thread

With reports from Carlton's preseason in Dubai or wherever it is and similar from other teams. Does anyone worry that the Lions preseasons aren't tough enough?

I'd like to see more photos of them throwing up.

@mike_whiting

Lions v.fit at 1st session today. Likely rookie Richie Newell just 1sec off Shaun Hart's club 3k record. Browny super fit in his 300 reps

Re: Richard Newell - NSW Scholarship

He is not on the list yet, currently we have 36 listed plus Newell makes 37. The Herald Sun reported that 35 were there this morning, wonder who was missing ?

Staker perhaps?

Re: The 2012 Brisbane Lions Pre-Season Thread

We know McKeever was there...Dyson and Harvey are the 2 remaining rookies to be included in the reckoning.

Re: The 2012 Brisbane Lions Pre-Season Thread

I'll be going to training on Thursday-nothing like a week off.

Re: Richard Newell - NSW Scholarship

9:36 for Newell, wow thats pretty blood impressive. Mckeever in second too, great work from him, looks like playing gaelic football in the offseason certainly hasn't done him any harm.

Patfull appears to be in one of the photos that is on that story.

Would be great if the club let out some more times - improvement list perhaps, those who significantly decreased their times from last per-season would be great.

This line caught my eye.

Is that an acknowledgement that we weren't as fit last season as we should have been, maybe contributing to some of those last quarter fade-outs?
I think Voss ran them into the ground the preseason before last and they died about 5 weeks in. Last year they seemed to take a very different approach and maybe didn't get enough miles in the legs. Hopefully next year we will have things just right.

Re: The 2012 Brisbane Lions Pre-Season Thread

Yeah. Can't expect Burton to get it 100 percent right the first time.

They would have collected a lot of data on each player over the last season and will probably have a much more individually tailored approach this time.

Anyone know how Acorn went in the time trail?

Would really hope they did this last year and every other year TBH.

Re: The 2012 Brisbane Lions Pre-Season Thread

Harwood's would be interesting as well after his poor pre-season last season.

Are you sure that quote doesn't refer to how far behind we were before the start of the last pre-season? I remember it being discussed how much improvements most players had in their running ability over the last pre-season.

Re: The 2012 Brisbane Lions Pre-Season Thread

I think Harwood just focussed on the wrong thing I don't think he was lazy or anything. He came back massive having spent all his time drinking protein shakes and going to the gym. His endurance was not where they wanted it apparently but there was a huge difference in his physique indicating that he certainly had put the work in.
