In his last years in St Kilda Ball's game time was a joke. There's no way he's going to drop that low at Collingwood.

Ball had 67% game time at StK in 2009 and 73% at the Maggies in 2010, pre sub rule.

It would take 4 substitutions (assuming half of 73%) to get to 67% TOG.

I wouldn't rule it out entirely.

(though theoretically those not subbed get ~4% more game time)

Yeah. I thought Siposs may have taken over that sweeping role that Goddard played.

I know little about St.Kilda but I am monitoring Hayes for my team.
What about Geary? He might take that role as well.

One player from my club that I'll be watching closely in the NAB is Tony Armstrong at $244k. His average suffered last year as he wore the green vest a few times but with Mattner and Smith having limited preseasons and Malceski and Shaw getting on a bit in age he could be a regular starter.

Edit: He is a midsized rebounding defender

I can't see him being consistent.

He may end up with a 137 then a 37.

Definitely worth monitoring though.

re Siposs

The Saints start with GCS - Tigers - GWS - Ess
Last year he had 91 - 57 - 101 - N/A against those sides.

The players whose role he will be filling (Gram/Goddard) smashed it against those sides last year (avg 114) so he'd be a handy starter, but I think he'll struggle rounds 5-8.

Swap him out for a Wet Toast player in round 5.

I don't need a defender. :)

Geary is an interesting one though.

What are peoples' thoughts on Angus Monfries for $356k this year?
Ordinary numbers last year, but averaged 83 from a forward pocket with the Bombers in 2011 - with a lot more time spent in the midfield at Port, could potentially average 90+?

Ordinary numbers because his a very ordinary player! - will star in intraclub games against Port magpies of Glenelg or the like then when te real pressure comes on and someone stands within 6ft of him he won't get near it. Is also in an ordinary side that is in the middle of re-building,

Have a few that I am thinking about mid price wise.

Heppell should have a cracking year. Looked really good last night to start off the season. Obviously first NAB Cup game is never the best indication but looked fit, strong and got a fair bit of the ball.

Brandon Ellis. Was subbed a fair few times last year. Apparently is look really strong this year, and natural improvement will dictate improved scores. However, to be worth his price, would need to average quite high.

Just above the $450k, but I think Andrew Gaff is a huge chance for a massive year. I think will push his average up towards the elite level.

David Swallow. Started quite well last year, and definitely didn't look the same after he got injured last year. If he plays well in the NAB cup is one that could be followed through to big scores.

Leuenberger for reasons already discussed. Has to be watched in the NAB cup.

Le Cras. It has been spoken to death so far in here, but I think he is a good choice. Has been the full year since he injured his knee. Think if he plays more midfield in the NAB cup, and plays well, will be pretty much a lock for me.

Harper. Really like this kid. Also found the sub vest a lot last year. Needs to find some consistency, but I believe he has the ability to average high this year. Dynamic player.

I think Moloney is good value, but most people are probably on to it already. I've got monfries aswell, hoping he will get a lot of time in the midfield
Moloney, Embley or Ball.

Only want to take one mid priced mid this year. Too many good rookie options that I really dont want to miss.

I changed it in the end, I managed to squeeze Fyfe into the list, and now I want Barlow; damnit.
Yeah Fyfe will be good this year.

Had Barlow for a lot of last year. Very frustrating, even with 30 touches, he can still struggle to hit the ton. Hopefully he has worked on his disposal over the summer, it's really all he is lacking as the ball just seems to find him.

Any thoughts on James Gwilt?

Everyone is buzzing about Siposs taking Goddard's role but Gwilt can do exactly the same thing and I'm thinking Watters might be looking for a bit more experience to quarterback their defence.

His stats on the weekend looked pretty good and definitely more consistent than Siposs.

I think it may have more to do with position (assuming Gwilt is listed as a defender?) than ability. Suppose scored favorably in limited time last year..

Just on Sipposs, I was all over him early draftings, however I have rethought it (until I see how he goes during the whole PS and scores to boot).

He is playing in (sorry Sainters actually don't mind watching you play) in a bottom side, whilst his inexperience will most likely see his scores fluctuate. His price may rise to $400,000 but those 10 - 15 points per game could be made up picking Cox instead of Sipposs.. And the rookie could then be upgraded to something marginally better again later in the season.

The position was also half the reason I'm considering having Gwilt as a midpricer in my backline.

All but 5 defenders averaged under 95 last year and can't see that changing too much this year. If I can get 80+ out of Gwilt then I think that's a win and not too far off the leading backmen. The extra cash can then go to someone like Martin or Wright who could easily outscore all the backmen (probably barring Goddard this year).

Anyone considering jeremy Laidler from the blues? will get games for sure, gets a fair bit of the ball (especuially when Jamieson plays as he doesnt have to mind a tall), only issue i have is he gives away free-kicks

Christensen? Bias involved but he's an in and under player that kicks goals and tackles a lot. Seems to have bulked up a bit too.
I like him, showed last year that he is more than capable. Would not be surprised to see him step up again this year.

Your all over my selections. Will moniter NAB cup form. Low price after his injuries last year...has been hot and cold when needed to play in a key position, but is primed to take over from gibbs as the sweeper, whilst gibbs will be part of the midfield.

KPD's this season should be henderson, jameson and watson.

Graham is also a star in the making, and potentially worth a selection in the midfield if sleected for rd 1 - question marks over his kicking efectiveness - so he may be better for dream team than supercoach.

Never touching that again. I choose Bundy last year and paid the price for it all year. Like Martin, he was meant to break out last year but didn't so what will change this year?

One that could catch a few off guard if he continues his pre season form... Ricky pettard. Tiges have moved him to hbf and seems to have flourish. Only averaged 50's last year and is worth high 200's... Shouldn't b in best 22. But going off his preseason, not out of the question.
Tiges can elevate 1 rookie b4 season starts, I would say he is the front runner to b on the main list come round 1.

I know he is just below $200K, but thoughts on George Horlin-Smith? He did play a cracking game in the VFL Grand Final.

Probably fighting for a spot with Caddy and Stringer at the moment. Should get some games this year, may even start round 1 with SJ out. Just don't know how often he will be selected though.

Had an injury riddled season and never got going really. Even though he seems over them, I wouldn't risk it since he has also been concussed a few times already and he love to charge in and put his little head over the ball.
