Good game in both grades today. As always, played in great spirits. Thanks to the Carrara lads for having a look. No need to sit all the way over on the far wing next time lads. No bar over there!

Don't know how and why we ended up over there but it was the quietest place to take notes. Thanks to the rookies who were continually running backwards and forwards from the bar.

Well thank god we have finally played a game. And what a game it was. I'm still feeling every bump.

I would struggle to believe the team we played yesterday is the same team that got thumped by over 100 points by coomera. Or maybe coomera are just that far above the rest of the comp. hope not.

Pine rivers were a really good side and will absolutely play finals IMO. No 5 (Boulcher, not sure of spelling)will give the league medal a fair shake to. Almost impossible to tackle and does not waste a kick.

Many of our new players got better as the game progressed but jeez we have alot to work on.

In the end, a really gutsy win in an extremely physical contest.

;Cobra please tell me ur taking the p*ss - quietest place to take notes from - this is the div 3 board yeah I haven't stumbled into the Neafl board by mistake have I? (Granted I do have a cpl of browser windows open and my attention is elsewhere  )

Regardless of the level you play at, what's wrong with researching your opponents and taking notes?

IMO for what it's worth I think it's well and good to do research - best players, goal kickers team sheets off Aflq - but to go to a game and take written notes I think is a bit over the top. Morro uve played enough in Qld to know naming the same 22 each week is basically impossible - and surely getting blokes to play to a game plan developed over a pre season as a group is hard enough let alone trying to implement specific things to combat what an opposition may do based on who played the week before.

Purely my opinion - but I'd think getting ur own team to player to their potential and game plan is what determines more games at our level then opposition specific game plans.

I'm with you BOC - at this level the basics of the game are all that matter. Most sides couldn't put a game plan into place for 100% of the match even at div 1 level. Sometimes its paralysis by analysis.

Morro - correct me if I'm wrong but that Boulcher you are talking about would be reasonably old (mid 30's). if so local football legend at Strathpine. Has won quite a few league medals, made lots of offers to play up levels but happy playing with his original club. Played against him in 1994 if it is the same guy!!

I stumbled across the note pad at the ground Cobra.

It read:

#9- R.Balcombe- (aka Rocket, Swoopa, "Hey you in the bushes!")
Position- Undeterminable
Skills- Lacking
Notes- Old, slow, covered in sunscreen.

Very much taking the piss. I actually spent most of my time in front of the canteen woofing down some burgers.

You forgot tries to sell the candy more often than Uncle Bully.

BOC maybe next year I would tend to agree with you. We are new to Div 3, know nothing about the comp at all and Coomera have been pretty hyped in pre season, and based on what we saw rightly so. If bringing a few younger players along and telling them before the game to watch player 99 or 100 or whatever as you will be on him next week makes him think, then why not? It wasn't like it was some big secret on the day. Could be wrong but I think it was Mrs Swoopa who even came up to us, introduced herself to us with the classic line "Good Afternoon Carrara boys, I'm Bec".

This is something I will speak to Bec about, I speciffically told her to say "hey you Carrara jerks, stay up on that hill ya campaigners". Not sure how that could be misinterpreted so badly!

Seriously though- why in QLD are clubs so stuck in "no body else does it"? Educating your inexperienced players is a must if you want to improve. 99% of blokes who grew up in Vic would remember the buddy system and learning by watching a more experience team! If any coach doesn't take the time to look at there opposition they deserve to lose IMO.

You would be correct in your analysis on that. Did you put that in your book too? ;)

I agree that there would have been some benefit in it for sure. It depends on the situation of the club I guess. If we had been given the bye in the first round and Pine Rivers were playing at Carrara, Logan or Beenleigh would we have had a look? Perhaps.

Personally I worry about my own game and my own team rather than what the opposition are doing. Not a criticism for those who do it differently just saying I don't.

In my younger days at Cooli and in Melbourne I played some run with roles. My preparation was no different than today except I knew the number of the guy I would be on. Stop him getting the ball. Got it. Similarly my time at Full Back I would do the same. Stop him getting goals. Got it.

I love how big footy changes the rude words ya campaigners!
