Be proud dude, the giant is stirring
As always...past...present...future...
- Maric.... there is nothing better than being able to rove to an agressive ruckman that competes like Ivan. The confidence he bring to the centre bounce ... the leader in the battle will always be the ruck. .... and hes is everything we need.
Grant Thomas you know nuthing....nuthhhiinnnggg(Sgt Shultz)...absolutely nutthing when it comes to this game and the importance of Ruckman in our great game...
Whether they are giants like Sandilands...mobile springboards like Nin Nac...or smarties like Otto and Jolley...
You need an aggressive big mongrel to scare the opposition a tad and influence the game your way.... ...
Will we be allowed to bump this thread at the end of the year????
Improvement... where will it come from?
Thats the easiest question to answer now. Its clear that we WILL improve. Even if we cop a few Injuries we now have a level of depth to ride the whole season through.
- Cotchin will rise IMO with the added responsibilty as Captain.... Maybe AA captain by the end of the year.
- Lids knows his time is now... and he has sat and waited for us to rise to his level.. he will be rewarded. His time in the sun and his standing in the game will only be fuflilled with quality in finals performances. He knows it... we know it.
- Jack has that natural competitive strain that will see him want to continue becoming the best forward in the game. he doesnt like getting beaten ...and most of the time he doesnt ...he doesnt like hearing all the buddy talk... he wants the mantle.
- Martin, Choco knows how to get the best out of players and how to release the beast.... I'm expecting more muturity and more agression from him... and see the boy become the man. He has that attacking natural killer instinct and hunger for goals... 35+ goals this season.
- Maric.... there is nothing better than being able to rove to an agressive ruckman that competes like Ivan. The confidence he bring to the centre bounce ... the leader in the battle will always be the ruck. .... and hes is everything we need.
We just need modest improvement across the ground and we are deep into the eight. There will be lows and highs but I'm expecting the highs to smouther the lows.
The best part is most people still predict bottom 8 for us. The predictions thread is so boring. Team x moving up 2-3 places, ageing team y moving down a few spots. Don't want to make any bold statements incase people laugh.
Right now the competition is the most even and the most open it's been since 1997. The compromised drafts have done the opposite of what they were supposed to do. It was supposed to deny the bottom sides high draft picks, preventing them from rising up and allowing the current powers to dominate for longer. In reality it hurt the stronger clubs more, shutting them out of the drafts top 20 altogether while still providing elite picks the the stuggling clubs.
This left the league without a dominant power. Back in 2007/08 Geelong would bend over top 8 sides like they were Melbourne. There were realistically only 1 or 2 teams that could challenge them at any one time. Right now we don't have a dominant side. Right now Sydney and Hawthorn are considered the benchmark but the gap between 1st and 7th is pretty miniscule when compared to past years. Hawthorn were talked up as some unbeatable powerhouse but that was never justified, especially after the hidings they recieved from the Swans and Tigers early in the year. In reality, the W/L column said they were the weakest minor premier since at least 2006.
Right now is the perfect time for mid ladder sides to take the next step. Right now in my eyes there are 7-8 teams that could realistically win the 2013 premiership if they get things right and 10 that could make the top 4.
I would not be the least bit surprised to see Richmond make the step up into not just the top 8 next year, but the top 4 too. This year the club was top 8 in just about every team statistic and top of the table in a few key ones:
Kicks: 5th
Handballs: 1st
Disposals: 1st
Marks: 5th
Hitouts: 11th
Tackles: 10th
Goals: 8th
Behinds: 2nd
Contested Possesions: 4th
Uncontested Possesions: 1st
Clangers: 10th
Contested Marks: 8th
Marks inside 50: 9th
Clearances: 9th
Centre Clearances: 3rd
Stoppages: 13th
Rebound 50s: 17th (The better sides were ranked lower for this one, Hawthorn 18th, GWS was 1st)
One %'s: 11th
Bounces: 7th
Inside 50's: 2nd
Goal Assists: 9th
All these stats point to Richmond already being a much stronger side than 12th win 10 wins and draw. Richmond are already amongst the elite when it comes to winning the footy. If some tweaks can be made to the forwardline to make it more efficient (Tyrone) then they're pretty much top 4 already.
They fielded the 16th oldest side on average this year(only GC/GWS were younger) and have plenty of improvement to come due to physical development of young players as well as the added experience from other clubs.
Richmond's time is now. The club will earn it's respect back and the flogs wont know what to do. Most of them have never known a strong Richmond. There's a whole generation that has no memory of 1995, and some that can't even remember 2001. They don't take Richmond seriously because they just assume the status quo will remain forever. The need it to stay forever. For most of the league the thought of Richmond finally arriving scares the shit out of them because up until now they've always had Richmond to fall back on.
St Kilda fail for the 110th time in 111 years, it's OK because Richmond have played 2 finals in 30 years.
Bulldogs fail for the 86th time in 87 years, it's OK because Richmond have played 2 finals in 30 years.
Freo achieve nothing in their first 15 years, it's OK because Richmond have played 2 finals in 30 years.
Melbourne achieve nothing for 40+ years, it's OK because Richmond have played 2 finals in 30 years.
Carlton are stripped of draft picks and win 3 spoons, it's OK because Richmond have played 2 finals in 30 years.
Port lose a grand final by 119 points, it's OK because Richmond have played 2 finals in 30 years.
Bombers don't win a final for 8 years, it's OK because Richmond have played 2 finals in 30 years.
Most of the league dreads a resurgent Richmond. They won't fear a Richmond flag in the way they do a Pies or Blues flag. They'll fear it for another reason. They'll fear it for the simple fact that without a lowly Richmond, there must be a "new Richmond", and there will be a mother of all shitstorms to determine who it is. Who the new laughing stock of the league is. Right now everyone still laughs because they can't comprehend it, but when they see Richmond surge up the ladder (whether it be this year or next) they will get a very rude shock. The league will be turned on it's head.
TLDR - Tigers are ready so bend over sillys.

Those horns aren't just for looks are they ? I think I just heard a bubble burst. Or maybe that was just the last of the happy new year sounds from me
I can guarantee one thing and that is that C7 and the AFL, will be high fiving the arrival of the tigers in the big time. For to long they have been piss farting around having to pretend with pseudo "blockbusters" that involved teams that history and facts suggest lack pulling power through the gate and in particular watching power through the box. They all know that all their graphs and all their KPIs will be met, generating more advertising revenue and interest, with a resurgent tigers and their army descending on the G and lighting up.
I will go as far as to say, if and when it happens, a string of wins, leading up to a game against say an in form Scum, bummers or Tankers, will break 100K for a home and away game.
Opposition supporters will have to find another hornets nest to poke when we start to dominate again - the majority of them only know us as a shit club and don't realise that this city will be a different place when our Tiges are strong once again. I do not expect to be humble either - I'm sick and tired of copping shit. There's plenty of payback due and I plan to be horribly merciless.
