I find JJJ insufferable these days but did this song get much of a play? If so I'd vote for it.

Not sure about how much of a play that song got, but I voted for another song of his "Family".

Any chance at all of making the top 100?

Hey Y'all this was my top ten for the year.

What are your opinions of Queens of The Stone Age's chances?
How many? Which songs? What order?

From my early count so far (around 2600 votes) i've got:
My God is The Sun at #36
I Sat by the Ocean at #41
If I Had A Tail at #50
I Appear Missing at #79

Although I don't think this will be the final result, with most of them dropping further down or out all together in the end.

Where does Smooth Sailing sit? Not many votes at all by the looks of it.

hi TheWitness! i've been following your posts for the last couple of years as I also try to predict the results and your work has been invaluable. so finally i have signed up to say thanks!

any chance of a preliminary list?

my votes (not in order):

Lorde - Team
Daft Punk - Instant Crush
Arctic Monkeys - Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High?
Foals - My Number
Fidlar - No Waves
Dune Rats - Red Light, Green Light
Violent Soho - Covered In Chrome
Wavves - Demon To Lean On
Queens Of The Stone Age - If I Had A Tail
Disclosure - When A Fire Starts To Burn

I'd say My God is the Sun and I Sat by the Ocean are gonna make it but I Appear Missing and If I Had a Tail aren't likely to chart.

thewitness any progress on your list mate?

I don't have enough votes to post a full list yet. Maybe by Friday I might put up a preliminary list.
Inside my current top 21 songs are (Listed Alphabetically):
Arcade Fire - Reflektor

Arctic Monkeys - Do I Wanna Know?
Arctic Monkeys - Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High?
Chvrches - Gun

Daft Punk - Instant Crush
Disclosure - When A Fire Starts To Burn
Flume & Chet Faker - Drop The Game
Foals - My Number

Lorde - Royals
Lorde - Team
Lorde - Tennis Court
Matt Corby - Resolution
Preatures, The - Is This How You Feel?
Vampire Weekend - Diane Young
Vance Joy - Riptide
Violent Soho - Covered In Chrome

I would've predicted the wombats - your body is a weapon to make the top 20...this year is much tougher to predict I think, which is why thewitness's vote-counting is so helpful. Here's my first go at a top 10 prediction anyway.

1-Lorde - Royals
2-Arctic Monkeys - Do I Wanna Know?
3-Vance Joy - Riptide
4-Daft Punk - Get Lucky
5-Chet Faker - Drop The Game
6-The Preatures - Is This How You Feel?
7-Lorde - Tennis Court
8-James Blake - Retrograde
9-Arctic Monkeys - Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High?
10-Haim - The Wire

Its Flume and Chet Faker, not just chet faker, im fact the song is much more flume than chet faker

But I hope it does make the top 5 that would be rewarding

Highly doubt we will see two songs from the same artist in the Top 10, no way would it occur twice. Lorde's magnificent album tracks will steal votes from anything other than "Royals", so too with the Arctic Monkeys and "Do I Wanna Know" although I think "...High" will be top 25.

I like the theory, Gibbsy, but to say there's "no way it could occur twice" is nuts. Only have to go back to 2008 to see the precedent set: Kings of Leon #1, #3, MGMT #2, #5 and The Presets #6, #8. Three double ups in one top ten.

Other less prominent instances: 2012 Tame Impala #7, #9, 2000 Powderfinger #1, #3.

Empire Of The Sun - I'll Be Around
Grouplove - Ways To Go
Jagwar Ma - Uncertainty
MGMT - Your Life Is A Lie
Naked And Famous, The - I Kill Giants
Nine Inch Nails - Everything
Tyler, The Creator - Ifhy {Ft. Pharrell}
Vance Joy - Riptide
Wavves - Demon To Lean On
Alice in Chains - Voices

What I voted for. Dunno how I'd order it. I Kill Giants number one.

Not that I'm saying my prediction is accurate...I'd love to hear everyone else's theories.

I'm tipping an upset with Royals not getting the number one spot.

1. Arctic Monkeys - Do I Wanna Know?
2. Lorde - Royals
3. Daft Punk - Get Lucky
4. Vance Joy - Riptide
5. James Blake - Retrograde

I think 1 - 4 that I have listed should all be top 5 locks but as for their order that's anyone's guess.

I have a theory about the hottest 100...

Every year, people who don't listen to JJJ vote on it, which means they've heard of only 3 or 4 of the songs you can actually vote for. So every year, the song that wins is invariably a popular one that has made it off JJJ and onto commercial radio, such as "Somebody I Used to Know/Gotye" and "Thrift Shop/Macklemore"

So this year I'll predict the winner will be Get Lucky/Daft Punk, Lanterns/Birds of Tokyo, or something by Rudimental. Probably Daft Punk if I had to pick one.

Pretty much agree with this which is why I think Do I Wanna Know will struggle for #1 as I don't think it has had commercial airplay.
