God you really have a problem with flume don't you. Why do you care so much? Personally I prefer a lot of flumes song to that Toro Y Moi on SilentAlarn, people just have different tastes in music, although I will download that song when I get home

Also is it

Toro Why Moi
Or
Toro Yeh Moi

I think the yeh moi sounds bettee

Toro ah/eh Moi, it's just the French pronunciation of, basically, a bridging word (his name is the Bull and Me, translated).

And yeah, I really have a problem with Flume. I don't like what he stands for. I don't think he's fair in expressing his genuine influences. I think he epitomises the cultural decay of Australian music and really shows where it's going and has been for 15 years. I don't like Lorde really, but her music's original and interesting and actually has some individuality.

In fact, Kiwis do that well. And Australians do copying well. Look at Dunedin Sound and the bands they birthed, only for Australia to hijack that aesthetic while adding little more than a substitution in thematics.

I mean, you look at the mid-2000s: really, only Cut Copy weren't deriving a sound from something popular somewhere else (usually four years before). You had British India, Yves Klein Blue, Operator Please. Then Aussie hip-hop. Now it's Flume just commercialising an internet genre. The shit I used to love in Melbs, Ocean Party and Dick Diver and Twerps, are just taking Real Estate and those Slumberland record bands to Woolworths instead of Walmart.

I mean it's not just him, but his reception just disappoints me.

I want to like Australian music for its originality. It's not cultural cringe. It's not because I want to, and inherently, dislike music that comes from this country. I just feel disappointed at how we copy niche things and, because we're so ignorantly following Triple J and not much else, blow-up these niche genres into 'our own' and claim them. It just shits me.

welcome back kbuck.

no way Flume/Chet collab wins it, it'll be popular for sure, but think it's either Royals, Get Lucky or Riptide to win.

pretty good list overall, I'll put mine up in a few days.

looking forward to thewitness posting his again

Do you guys vote for the songs you like the most from an artist? Or do you vote for their most popular song knowing that it is more likely to make the countdown?
