Much like a lot of AFL sanctioned awards, this thing barely has that much prestige. Some undeserved names in there.

lol only on BF is a Brownlow relevant to talk someone down when they do not win one! Ye when they do win it and they are player of dislike or play for a club that people don't like the Brownlow is shat upon.

Carry on with the no win situation.
Sorry champ, but that doesn't make any sense.

Kouta was brilliant in 2000. He won an AFL MVP, well deserved. Would have won a Brownlow too had he not done his knee.

But that was one year.

Kouta? Really? 1 flag, 2 B&Fs, 2 All Australian. Great player and amazing athlete but HOF?

Some say it was he who revolutionised and was the catalyst for the change in the way onballers were drafted. The begining of the tall athletic midfielder started with him.

Watch the 1999 season as well champ.

Also even the 1995 flag win when he was only a youngster.

Never deserved to be considered. The first footballer to truly hold a club to ransom for money and helped wreck Carlton in the last decade in terms of salary cap problems.

If you say so.

You still smarting over the new one he tore you guys in 99?
Yes. That's exactly what I'm doing. I think he deserves it but I'm arguing the opposite point because of a game that happened 15 years ago when I was too young to really comprehend it.

You caught me.

That would be the same year of 1999 where he didn't even make All Australian?

Oh that's right i forgot all these awards have to be ticked off before a player gets any recognition.

Yet when they do get these awards they are shat on and the selection process is a joke because he plays for a team other people don't like which creates negative bias.

Anyway enjoy the thread.

Not everyone who will go into the hall of fame will be the greatest. Some will be there because they are iconic symbols of the sport or they were players whose play revolutionised the game in certain ways. Given we've ripped the HoF concept off US sports that's how US sports induct their players.

Not really fair. Johnson was a very high quality and consistent performer.

364 games
543 goals
3 x B&F
3 x Leading goal kicker
6 x AA (captain in 2006)
Bulldogs Captain
Bulldogs Team of the Century

I think we over hype players that have played a large amount of games. Johnson was a good player, nothing more. 2006 was a great season for him, no doubt about that. We can't have every player that was an all Australian captain as a hall of famer. Is it because he smiles, has a great record and generally seems like a great bloke?

On the other end of the spectrum you have Brendan Fevola who retired in the same year. You could fill a page with his misdemeanours but he was twice the player of Johnson. Speaking of which he kicked more goals from almost half as many games. Just like the recent brownlow talk, we want to reward the best player, not the fairest. Fevola was a rare talent and how a durable journeyman and a all round nice guy pips him is staggering.
