QLD in a tough one - who is coaching this side?

Who is tyrell? And what about corrie or carr both where length of the straight ahead of the field last year! Jesse derrick was arguably the best player in last year comp and is a proven performer at state league level. And I have to agree with a previous post on venue for the game against the ammos up here we would be in worth a real chance but down there would be a real big ask.

Smy,

We have held on to a fair portion of Last year's premiership team and added a Couple of new faces! Not sure if they will fill the void left by the guys that departed, only time will tell. Certainly not the same amount of turn over we saw last year.

No doubt you will still be more than competitive though. Did hear that maybe not as many $$ to be spent in 2014 than previous which always has an impact too.

Agree with JD would be a big chance, i think Corrie is stepping down a level due to on going knee issues, big wrap on Carr if he could kick straight?

Yep that's right Speedy a few boys are stepping down a level to play next door, I believe Corrie, Timmy Mac, Tubby Reed and Fozard will play at Kenmore in 2014, which should make them a fairly strong outfit??

dont think McEvoy will play but would be very handy if he does, will work well for both clubs i think and will give the maggies a chance to play some of their kids that are waiting in the wings in more prominent positions with some senior boys dropping back a level....

have you blokes recruited anyone?

Yep there's a few new faces around.

From the sounds of it a lot of the posters on here foresee us copping spankings every week, and I can understand why: effectively jumping up almost two levels in two years is a huge ask of any club. I'm not going to try to change anyone's mind on here as the only way to do that is by earning respect on the field. I am quietly confident, however, that we will at least be competitive.

The same questions marks sat over us last season and, although we didn't set the world on fire, I'd say it was a reasonably successful first year stepping up. Our senior side won a handful and very nearly upset a number of the top teams despite being tipped to go winless all year. The reserves were right up there all year finishing 3rd at the end of the regular season. And our colts held there own in only just missing the finals.

If we can be competitive from the top down in 2014 it will put us in good stead to build over the next few years as our very young side matures.

Guarantee McEvoy won't play for Kenmore, none of the retired Magpies will.
Fozard and Corrie have moved over to accept coaching positions (they will play where possible) and Kale "Cubby" Reed has moved over for a change of scenery - but he is the only Senior player to do so.
Will be a very different and young side at the Pies this year. A good opportunity for some of those guys to step up.

I wouldn't be stressing to much on labs recruits just yet. Some 3-4 very good to good players in the bunch with some good accolades and it falls away very quickly to some mediocre players with huge reputations for playing in average football competition at best.

Are you involved at Labrador innovativefwd?
Wouldn't worry too much Blackdog - sounds like they are good players and maybe a disgruntled country vic club. Have heard Simon Seddon is playing - absolute gun from all reports.
Good Job by Lab - looks like things are turning around.
Should be a great comp with at least 4-5 clubs with solid squads at this stage.

any news how broady and vultures are tracking?

The cats have predictably lost a few to southport and a couple of inter staters have returned home. Pantic the b&f winner has signed at port Melbourne.

The majority of the rest have stayed and there are a few new faces around the club but no big names. A couple of guys have returned after a couple of years not playing. There's little doubt that we will not be as strong as the last 3 years in the the NEAFL but I'm still confident that we will be fairly strong in QAFL. Our reserves were premiers in 2012 and prelim finalists last year and there are plenty running around there that will be good enough for seniors this year. I would also imagine that not all the ex-cats players over at sharks will make the best 22 over there so expect to get a couple back from there at times also.

As for mt gravatt, grose is at aspley the Scott brothers at redland and I heard eckermann has gone as well ( not sure where). They don't quite have the same depth as cats or panthers or the $$ of tigers so I expect them to be the lowest finisher of the ex neafl clubs, about mid table.

As for the players coming back from NEAFL- Apparently the neafl clubs must pick a squad of 25 on by Wednesday and those that don't make it ( and are not required as top up or qld 18's etc) then go train with the QAFL club on the THursday.

Have they scrapped the list of 35 that was proposed earlier on then?

Thats a good idea I reckon - means the players playing QAFL footy will train with their clubs on the Thursday night which at least gives some clarity to the coaches and players rather than hanging on a phone call late Thursday night.
Out of interest how is the "rookie" system going to work?? Is this going to be a number of players that might be U18 State players, didn't make the list at any of the NEAFL sides, but can be taken by NEAFL sides at their discretion? Could be boys playing in the north/south conferences as well I suppose.
