Totally agree. I was going with HMac/Sandi when I did my first team in Dec, but over the journey I've come to the conclusion 1 solid, 1 risk.
I honestly think you're setting yourself up for disaster if you don't go for the 1 solid (Goldstein/Minson/Lobbe/Leuey/Mumford/NicNat/Cox etc.) and Sandi.

Sydney have a history of playing 2 rucks, will have to see what they dish up for their NAB challenge games,
Your right, they have. But I think things will change this year. Good coaches are flexible with their philosophy/strategy. You have to play the talent that you have, and build a structure around that. Put it this way...It would be hard to justify playing Derickx/Nankervis ahead of Sam Reid. That's the sort of decision that would have to be made. If they were keen to continue with the 2 ruckman, I don't think they would have let Mummy walk, or, with money being an issue, they would have made a play for a more talented but cheaper alternative such as Hickey/Longer or even Currie. Will be interesting to see how it all works

I know most people have gone off Jacobs forever after he let them down last season, but watch for him to bounce back the way Goldstein did after a bad season. There's no reason he shouldn't, and i think people have dismissed him for good way too easily.

Great value after a sub-par season which he's the first to admit to (http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/a...top-form-of-2012/story-fni5f4l8-1226780098792), and a better pick then Lobbe for basically the same price IMO.

how is he a better pick then Lobbe?

how is he a better pick then Lobbe?

Lobbe is still a speculative pick as a premium ruck, his best season was last year for an 86 ave,

Big Sauce has a 3 year ave of 93, with a 102 ave in 2012,

how is he a better pick then Lobbe?

- Averaged 92.7 in 2011 and 102.1 in 2012 (Shows 100+ is not out of his reach).
- Tonned up against Goldstein, Leuenberger and Bellchambers/Ryder combo last season (All quality ruckmen) along with a couple of other games where you'd expect him to (wont hide away from him not scoring 100+ in many other games you'd expect him to though)
- Hasnt missed many games in the last 2 seasons.
- Turning 26 in 2 months, so entering the age where many players start to peak and play the best football of their careers.

No doubt he had a terrible year last season, he'd be the first to admit it, but to be honest i don't really have a whole lot else to back up my claim apart from those points! I guess a lot of it is just faith in him having the character to bounce back and return to near-100 average over 22 games he's shown in the past.

Considering the price he's at, and the analysis i've done on Lobbe, i like Jacobs compared to Lobbe and many other ruckmen.

Bit of a negative though is that Jacobs is a Round 8 bye, with Lobbe being a Round 9 bye.

It would be good to hear from any Adelaide fans about the sort of pre-season Jacobs has had. Something as simple as a clean bill of health all pre-season and moving well would be enough to add another tick

Really good pre-season from all reports. I htink was quoted as saying was disappointed with his form last year and wanted to bounce back hard. Ususal stuff from pre-season but certainly no injuries that I am aware of.

Cheers for the info! I know pre-season stuff is usually just the same old "best he's ever looked", "training the house down etc. hence i was more hoping he'd had a clean bill of health, as that's as good of an indication as you're going to get amongst all the cliche's

No amount of fitness can fix the level of spud within Sam Jacobs.

is anyone thinking about selecting mike pyke??? with white and mumford gone, he is the number 1 ruck man, and will do majority of the game, with reid helping him out id say

He was disappointing because he's a spud. There's a good reason why he was the #4 ruck at Carlton.

The dude can't even jump off the ground. He is not athletic at all, cannot keep up with the modern day roaming ruckman. Every ruck just jumps over him, or out muscles him. He doesn't have anything going for him.

Lol,

If we look at Premium Scoring Years, where 100 for a Ruck & 110 for a mid is the pass mark;

Jacobs - 1/5 years in AFL
Boak - 0/7

Lol,

Got the stats for Sandi and NicNat there?

Isn't that reason, the same good reason Carlton have been perpetually shit house. Remember Gold Coast?

Jacobs was down on form because our preseason was shit last year. Too many players in the same boat last year. Let's see how NAB goes 1st.

Errrrr. Fair to say Adelaide's been shit for 5 years and had one good year with a new coach and over performed (a la Port in 2007)

Adelaide was injury riddled in 10 and 11.

But the point was talent spotting and development ..... Gunston, Davis, Talia, Grigg, Brown, Laird, B Crouch...... A few rising star nominees in there and future stars (not all SC relevant)

Bootsma was their top pick in 2011, we (apart from securing Crouch in the mini draft) picked up Kerridge and Grigg that they let go past.

I guess that taking a Carlton fan's word about if a former player has talent or not isn't necessarily a reliable source. Neither is a Port Power fan's assessment for that matter. ;) They had a whole thread about how Dangerfield is a spud and how Ebert was going to quickly go past him. I'll pass on that talent assessment too. Not saying every pick or trade is a winner........

Jacobs clearly isn't a Cox, but his woes last year were not the starchy tuber variety that plagued Bootsma. I'll be watching Jacobs keenly in NAB.

PS I have Lobbe penciled in at the moment fwiw.

Ruck situation is starting to grate on me. Currently have Hmac/Sandi combo with Dixon as insurance, but given his injury history, that's a risk in itself.

I'm questioning whether I'm investing too much in 3 risks or just get a super premo like Goldy/Cox as R1.

Decisions.

Gone back to NicNat (was H-Mac) and Sandi but new move Dixon to NRoo (P.O.D) and no round 8 bye. :thumbsu:
