So with trades & signings starting to flow I thought it would be interesting to take a look at how some Round 1 teams might start to look? Also, how do you see your best 22 looking should everyone make it through the season injury free?

Obviously anything can happen between now and then (FA, Drafts & Pre Season injuries, *Buddy to do a knee in Ireland... etc)

Injury Implications...?
* R. Schoenmakers (Knee - Rd 1?)
% M. Suckling (Knee - Rd 1?)
# B. Whitecross (Knee - Rd 12-15?)

Hawthorn 2014 Round 1

FF: P. Puopolo, D. Hale, J. Gunston
R: B. McEvoy, M. Hallahan, L. Hodge ©

IC: J. Anderson, B. Sewell, J. Simpkin, L. Sheils

Hawthorn 2014 Best 22 (not in round 1)

EMERGING / VFL / HOPING FOR INJURIES IN 22:

TALLS:S. Grimley, M. Spangher, L. Lowden

TO RETIRE AFTER 2014

Surely --> Sewell, Burgoyne, Hale
+ if premiers --> Mitchell, Lewis, Lake

Positions are interesting - case for many changes, ins, outs etc - not sure of the makeup of the VFL side either. Regardless of the result - I am looking forward to another exciting year for Hawthorn!! #back2back

* it hurts okay...

Lewis wont retire!

Even if he went back to back making him a 3 time premiership player?

Has always been in the big hits and puts his body on the line, would love him to keep going but we'll have to wait and see - maybe even same with hodgey dare i even think it

What does: M. Suckling (Knee - Rd 18-20??) mean?

Suckling did his knee in this year's preseason. Surely he'll be back well before Rd 18-20. I'd be hopeful of Rd1. Whitecross was out for less than 12 months.

For crying out loud, Jordan Lewis is 27 and in the absolute prime of his career. He's got a solid nine years left going by the Buddy scale.

Swans 2014 Best 22 (not in round 1)
FB: Smith Grundy Johnson
HB: Malceski Richards Shaw
C: Hanneberry Kennedy Jetta
HF: Parker Franklin O'Keefe
FF: Bird Tippett Goodes
R: Pyke McVeigh Jack
INT: Shaw McGlynn Reid (Rohan)
Clear weakness in the backline...ummm, midfield...wait, forwardline...hmmm, bench... Oh. Shit.

Don't be daft Lewis is not going to retire at 28.

B: M. Baguley, M. Hurley, D. Fletcher
HB: M. Hibberd, C. Hooker, C. Dempsey
C: B. Stanton, J. Watson, B. Goddard
HF: D. Zaharakis, J. Carlisle, J. Winderlich (depending on injury status)
F: J. Daniher, T. Bellchambers, P. Chapman
R: P. Ryder, D. Heppell, H. Hocking
I/C: D. Myers, L. Dalgleish, J. Merrett, sub: E. Kavanagh

We'll obviously lose Crameri but won't pick up any best 22 players in the trade period, unless we get D. Garlett with Footscray's mid-20s pick that we should receive, in which case he'll slot into the forward pocket.

Melksham to return after his 2(?) week suspension. Winderlich will probably be reinjured by round 22, but I think Hurley will have a better year in terms of both performance and injury playing in defence under Thompson.

LRT, Tommy Mitchell or Dane Rampe can't squeeze Armstrong out for the sub vest? (Or Harry Cunningham or Brandon Jack for that matter?)

Talia----------Roughead-------Goodes
Johannisen-----Morris---------Murphy
Cooney----------Libba---------Wallis
Higgins---------Crameri--------Grant
Dalhaus---------Jones--------Dickson
Minson---------Griffen---------Boyd

IC: (from) Gia, MaCrae, Stevens, Hunter, Hrovat, Picken, Stringer, Wood, Campbell, Williams, pick four.

*haven't included Smith as he's out for most of the year with an ACL.

B: Adcock, Merrett, Patfull
HB: Harwood, Clarke, Golby
C: Mayes, Rockliff, Hanley
HF: Redden, Lisle, Zorko
F: Green, Brown, Staker

Foll: Leuenberger, Rich, Lester
INT: Beams, Moloney, McGrath
Sub: Bewick

That's assuming Yeo, Longer(50/50 chance to stay), Docherty, Polec and Karnezis are all gone. Also assuming Black retires.

Really need to pump games into Lisle. Has shown a bit against some good defenders(McPharlin and Lonergan).

I can't see all of Dalgliesh, O'Brien and Kavanagh starting the year in the best 22 but the rest of the side is exactly how I would have done it.

Fair enough; I think Dalgleish definitely earned his spot last season and I just hope that Kavanagh finally starts getting some more game time, though it's hard to predict how his pre-season will go. The Herald Sun's saying we're close to getting Chappy, so I'll chuck him in ahead of O'Brien.

Essendon Best 22 (if all healthy) in round 22 in 2014 will hopefully look something like this.

B: M. Baguley, M. Hurley, T. Pears

HB: M. Hibberd, C. Hooker, C. Dempsey

C: B. Stanton, J. Watson, B. Goddard

HF: D. Zaharakis, J. Carlisle, J. Winderlich

F: P. Ryder, J. Daniher, J. Merrett

R: T. Bellchambers, D. Heppell, H. Hocking

I/C: D. Myers, J. Melksham, B. Howlett, sub: T. Colyer

If we do get Chappy then he will replace Merrett who will lose his spot.

IC: Lester, Crisp, Mcguane, Bewick

I feel that Lisle or Longer(decent chance he will stay) should be brought in. Lisle would ideally play CHF whilst Longer would play FF meaning Brown goes to CHF. I feel we function a lot better with Staker playing as a third tall. We really need to pump some games into Lisle next year.

I'd personally take Crisp out of the side and replace him with Raines. I don't think Crisp showed enough this year and others are currently ahead of him.

I reckon Crisp was great in the reserves for most of the year. Topped it off with a BOG in the grand final.
His burst out of traffic and booming left foot reminds me a lot of Pendlebury. With some more game time in the seniors he will blossom.

If Saints kept that side on the field for most of 2014 they wouldn't finish last but I can't see Watters playing Schneider, Dempster, Hayes and Ray every week because he needs/wants to get games into kids like Newnes, Sipposs, Murdoch and Saunders
