FWIW, I signed up as a member for the first time yesterday, and can't wait to get down to Whitten Oval for the first time on Saturday. I actually grew up as a West Coast fan, but turned my back on them during the drugs-and-arrogance days of the mid-00's. I didn't really follow the footy for a few years after that, but moved to Seddon a few years ago, started following the Dogs, and now I couldn't be happier. Bring it on!

Good choice and welcome to the kennel.
Now can we just have a little chat about this Tottenham Hotspur thing ... ;)

No budging on that. I've already been through 18 years of pain supporting Spurs (and never avoiding St. Totteringham Day), so I might as well double down on the pain and support the Dogs too.

I just remembered that last year was my 25th year of consecutive membership with the Bulldogs out of a total of 37 years. Just that one year in Perth(1989) as a West Coast member broke the chain. Next year could have been my 40th consecutive year. :(

I'll sign up again before the season starts and so will my cat, Lily. I also intend to sign up my near 90 year old mother once again after a lapse of a few years. I presume she'll be the oldest overseas Bulldog member then.:p

I heard someone say we only signed up 20-30 people on Saturday. Surely not i would hope it's alot more.

I wouldn't think we would have signed many up at all.

I assume most that went would Diehards already signed up

I hate to be negative again but I think this yet will be about as poor as possible

Wins won't be many and membership very very low. Will set us up with another low low pick and plenty more cap room so that will be the positive

You might well be right on both counts MD. We'll leave the wins discussion for other threads but the membership trajectory has certainly flattened out after the automatic renewals were all accounted for back in November-December.

Even if we have a horrible year on the field we can't afford a decline in membership when every other club is increasing theirs. It's like salary inflation ... if your salary stays the same for three years you are actually a worse off because the CPI and all your colleagues/friends have had rises.

In the AFL costs continue to go up and if we're not getting at least a small increase in membership each year we are falling further behind the pack. I am sure sponsors and TV stations are very mindful of memberships as a rough guide for potential exposure/viewing audiences too. If our membership is in the bottom of the league and we aren't winning many games there is little incentive to broadcast our games, and certainly not for Friday nights.

Let's hope there's been at least a small spike in membership tally after the weekend, anyway. I'm disappointed nobody who was at the game has even mentioned seeing a membership tent or queue.

It's hard mate and I hate to go back but it was obvious this was going to happen and it's why I've screamed for 3 years and people can still abuse me for being negative but everything I said would happen has.

Poor results
Falling membership
Losing players

Fickle fans don't look at the big picture behind the scenes and there has been nect to zero positive from the Peter Rhode mark 2 reign that is obvious to see to non diehards

I fear a couple of years of this very poor results and figures but the positive is if the club drafts well that should set us up to have a real bloody crack at it

Things definitely aren't looking rosy in the short term.

22,608

aren't great figures. We are now behind all the previous 6 years except for 2013.

So unless we come out of the gates like a shot this year (which we are unlikely to) I'm starting to think 30,000 members will take some getting.
