Dude, chill out, maybe read the next line... I'm not laying in the boot in, seems he rehabbed well this offseason. Genuinely want to see him succeed.

Chill out, pigs arse.
It did not need to be said.
Why couldn't you have written for example " Let's hope he has a good run with injuries since the ankle op ? " But, No. you saw it like all the others who appear to sweat on the fella failing.
"One can only pray", you wrote . That would be a change as it has been more like preying on the poor bastard.

Now that we all know he had an undiagnosed ankle injury that has possibly restricted him for several seasons, it would be more than fair to give him the benefit of the doubt. Instead he got a condescending quip about maybe he's been told to pull his finger out.

I do not know why fans of this club do it . It was done to Smokey then Jack Anthony and now this poor campaigner.
Try some ****ing encouragement.

Agreed. To quote this from the west article "Sylvia kept pace with Matthew Pavlich and Zac Dawson during the session’s time trial, but still lagged well behind the club’s best runners including de Boer, Tendai Mzungu and Stephen Hill". He's just come back from minor surgery and it seems hes in the middle tier group for fitness, so I'd take that given it's only the start of pre season and his fitness will get better by the end of it. Comparing him to Mzungu/Hill was pointless, they're elite runners.

It is typical of how people write about Fremantle players. Emotive terms like lagged well behind the clubs best runners. Well, the fact is everybody else was behind them too and they are elite runners. How is the writer qualified to describe his surgery as minor ?
the fact is most of us on here were expecting him to be in the rehab group, post surgery.
Evidently he is ahead of expectations.

i Just want him to get in to our best 22 and do what he does best: Contested footy, maybe 10-15 touches playing majority as a forward kicking 1 or 2 a game.

He showed glimpses in the games that he can play tough footy with his tackling and manic pressure but just didn't get enough of the footy.

People have different body types and its more about core strength these days. Dustin Fletcher has never been big and he's been playing forever. I see him (Pearce) as hopefully a Carlyle type, tall athletic and just a good footballer.
To answer your question I couldn't say how much weight he's put on but he doesn't look skinny. He's not a gorilla but he has an athletic build.

Like E Shed said he isn't a big, solid defender so it's hard to really notice how much he has put on if any at all. I would be surprised if he hasn't spent a bit of time in the gym over the off season though.

Had a look at the Club's site after I posted and the official line on Alex Pearce is:-

Outlook: Tall forward from Tasmania selected with the 37th pick in last year’s draft. No key position player has ever tested better for endurance at the draft combine where he ran a 15.5 beep and a 10.06 3km time trial.
What the coach says (Roger Hayden): He’s put on almost four kilos in three months. Really diligent young player in his preparation and in the way he trains. Is a key position forward and back and is training the house down at the moment.
AFL Fantasy: Clearly has the tank to play AFL football but may need to develop his strength in the WAFL first.

The 4kg added in 3 months plus the 'training down the house' comment suggests maybe it's from last year. Roger must have been sitting amongst the training watchers as he's using your lingo! Hopefully he's developed aplenty in the WAFL last year and is ready to show something in the big league this year. Love the record setting endurance numbers.

Seems our training reporters have come back MDB style, great start to the summer gaskin and E Shed.

Really like your thoughts on Alex Pearce too E Shed, particularly that you like his skills. I'm really excited about this guy too, there is a lot of MJ about him.

I love the fact the new guys were paired up with Crowley/Mzungu/Mundy for strength duels, some big strong lads there.

Usual time so around 9-11 but they may come out a little bit earlier.

Cheers - I have a 8.30 in freo then another at 10 on wed. Might be able to sneak in a peak in between. Do they let anyone drive your car in these days or is it players only?

Well I got there for some of it, got held up this morning so didn't see the start of things.
I watched from behind the goals as the defenders group went through positioning exercises. In this group were McPharlin, Dawson, Duffield, Silvagni, A Pearce and Hurley. Smith, Ibbo were running laps and MJ wasn't around. I really like the look of Pearce, he is so nimble for a big guy and has really neat skills. High hopes for him, hopefully he has the determination and aggression to play as a defender at the top level as he seems to have the size and skills for it. Hurley is a good size unit and moves beautifully. A real athlete. Time will tell if he has what it takes to learn the game. Will be a real bonus if he does. A guy that size with his aerobic capacity and athleticism.

Saw my mate Ollie and wandered over for a chat. We both agreed that Ross should roll the dice this year and forgo some of our defensive stalwarts in favour of more attacking players and game style in general. Hoping to see the likes of Duffy, Crozier and Weller given early opportunities. I believe this is our year where we have to have everything go right and be prepared to play all out attack at the pointy end of the year.

There was a bit of kick to kick going on by now in groups from varying distances and I managed to pick out Weller and Langdon in their groups. Langdon was clearly overawed and dropped a sitter and duffed his first few kicks but it was good to see players and coaches alike getting around him and offering encouragement and advice. Weller looked like rolled gold, smooth mover and his kicking is clean, low and his action effortless.

Some players including all the new boys then went to running drills while others continued to do ball work. Some of the players I noticed during the ball work were:

Moller - although Gaskin (who I was sitting with by that stage and watches more training than I do) doesn't rate him athletically or for attitude I was impressed by the way he was moving. He does have good skills for a guy his size with a nice kick and he can take a mark at full stretch. I'm not sure he's going to make it but you can see why he's being given every opportunity.

Sheridan seemed to be everywhere getting involved. He's a nice mover and a good kick but he would want to make every post a winner with the likes of Weller and Blakely breathing down his neck. I see him at best as a Brad Hill type that glides around linking up and delivering the ball inside 50.

Crozier - developing some real presence about him now. He looks powerful the way he's running and can really hoof it. I have him in my starting 22.

Duffield looks very fit and does everything with the assurance of a veteran. Ditto Mzungu, Dan Pearce (who always looks a million bucks on the track).
Clancee is very fit as is Deboer but I rate these guys as the sort of players we have to consider depth as others with better skills/more hurt factor come along.

Stephen Hill is just an incredible runner. He was doing end to ends and laps and just makes everyone else look clumsy. His gait is effortless and he was smiling and joking around barely cracking a sweat as he pumped k after k into his legs.

Pav looked serious, low key but intent. The ultimate professional. Sandi looks great as does McPharlin. Dawson looks like he always does, a geek who somehow wandered out onto the field but he always does everything and is just plug and play. Mundy punched out laps as did Sonny who also looked more serious than usual, not cracking jokes and smiling as he normally does when he runs past others. Balla was a bit like that too, just looked low key and intent. Ibbo also pounded the white line, ditto Spurr.

Was great to be down there on such a beautiful day and catch up with Ollie, Gaskin and JMT. I almost prefer this time of year when its all about possibilities and there isn't the stress of game day every week!

Great post mate but you must be confusing myself as someone else. I was at work reading bigfooty not under a fig tree observing training with you.

You can park in the public car park if you can find a spot.

Could I ride my bicycle there from Joondalup? It's not a distance thing, I just don't want to be riding on roads :/

If you can get to the beach, there is a cycleway from Hillarys marina to Fremantle, and possibly further north. You probably know the paths up near Joondalup. It's about 30 km from Trigg

I know that path! It goes way up north past me so that's perfect. About 90km round trip then.
Sounds like an early start if I manage to get time off.

Not really interested into getting into an argument about a rhetorical flourish;if that's how you feel about then fair enough.

Probably could of dropped the prayer part; was just trying to get at the fact that he's rehabbing well for a guy who's been criticised for a lack of work effort. It takes considerable discipline to come back in decent nick after a bout of surgery. I then noted that I wanted to see him succeed. You're probably going to see a lot worse than that to be honest but I agree with your sentiments generally. As long as a fella has a freo jumper why on Earth would I actively root for him to fail?

Thanks :)

Riding the right ways at right time too, hopefully not much wind early and you should have a decent breeze kicking in to take you back north. Great scenic ride along that coastal path too.

Thanks :)

Whoa you were actually being serious?

Can Moller move in with you? Training doesn't seem to be improving his fitness much, maybe the commute will.

Yeh, it's not like I'd be riding there and then training with the guys.

That's Ryan O'Keefe stuff, I'm not that fit.

Craig is carrying much more weight than me haha.
