ok, to the football.

interesting round. at least 3 clashes that will help us understand the ladder.

yeronga vs UQ

already there are no doubts that UQ have improved markedly.. we might find out a bit more tonight about where they are in the middle pack, or even if they are a cut above it. if they beat yeronga convincingly to go with their coorparoo and ferny grove scalps, they could be battling collingwood park for the last spot in the 6. of course, we know colly park can make the GF from 6th ;-)
kenmore vs ferny grove
another clash that defines the middle pack. something tells me this one will go down to the wire, and if it does, you can probably throw a blanket over kenmore, ferny grove, coorparoo, and yeronga, barring any other surprise results this weekend. i fancy kenmore to prevail by less than a kick, especially given their unique thin side/fat side home ground advantage.
zillmere vs woodsmen
a mouthwatering match of the round. zillmere were a different team in round 2 to round one. i think on a friday night at home we can expect to see close to their strongest team. gut feeling, based on no intel says that dickfos will play maybe half a dozen games this year - the ultimate team man will just fill in when it helps. it would help tonight. lots of experience in zeidler, long, smith, cooney, should see the eagles a much stronger team than last year. will it be enough to knock over the woodsmen? it's been a long time since the premiers lost a game. even though it's early in the season and the woodsmen are still in the "preseason phase" of their famous reverse taper approach to the season, some teams just get used to winning and keep finding a way to get the four points. but i reckon the wide open expanses of the O might require a level of run that the woodsmen aren't planning to deliver until about round 10. i'm going for the eagles by two goals.

for what its worth i also reckon sandgate will win by less than 30 points over collingwood park. it's a long drive out there from lemke rd.

good luck to all.

I would say that Ed Mac is a capable defender. I mean he probably only took 22 marks (mainly contested) on the halfback line the one game he played against us last year. Woodsmen won by 2 points due to some poor kicking but Ed may have assisted in some respect??
Anyhow the forum has gone off topic. Let's get back to the real subject of Yeronga stacking their team. Surely Russ will be back for the big game tomorrow night...

You coming down tonight dingo? I'll have a beer and watch the game with you. I must be getting old. That and work kept me off the track this week. We have no under 19 this year and it's hard to put your hand up to play when you didn't train and you take a spot from one of the kids coming through. + the amount of ball that was pumped into woodsman forward line on the weekend was more that I received in half a season with Yeronga. Still feeling it.

Bad Luck Russ, Too Old, Too slow. No commitment. Time to move aside and let us younger guys Blossom. I think I might even be able to pull out the pink boots again. All the cool kids seem to be wearing em these days.

I'm sure EdMac doesn't need me to defend him, but seriously?
As I said, the guy is a fill in player for us. Granted a very handy one.
But who does it benefit having you bag a guy like this? Clearly he is a ridiculously good footballer, Div 1 Premiership Player, 2 years on an AFL list, 2 years playing seniors in the SANFL and still very fit and in his 20's.
As I said, not like he's a regular player - but lets not pretend he's not going to be the best player out there when he does play. Just like Danny D was in 2013 at the ripe old age of 42, AFL players play a game that most of us are not familiar with...
Now can we move on from the dick measuring contest and talk a out the actual games, and the guys actually playing them? Instead of who is leaving what club because of what reason, its boring.
Apart from Burton going to Zillmere for Friday night convenience, surely blokes dont change clubs? Especially after 2 rounds because they lost a couple of games? If they did, would you even want them?
Looking forward to tonight, my first game in 2015. See you Eagles boys in the bar.

You tell em Thommo. We played some hard games last year but did not have to get into bagging each other out!
Good luck tonight on your first game this year!
Looking forward to our game against Marooka tomorrow to see roughly where we are in this division.
Certainly looking like a much closer division in your league this season. Should make for some good footy.

Oh, and for all those guys calling it a social league, that is not how we treated it last year, nor the woodsmen, especially not in the way they played. Maybe after the game at the bar!!!

Score updates?

We got done by the Eagles in a close one, they nearly kicked their way out of it, but some good finishing late got them over the line.

Good bunch of blokes, played in good spirits and plenty of beers to go around.

For gods sake. Last time I checked 22 blokes ran out to compete. Stop getting hung up on a individuals who may or may not be playing

Kedron had a win. Well done to the mayne boys who pushed hard all nite. For all those who play at Mott st this year the ground is short and narrow. Its very crowded at times and not easy to move the ball around. Good surface and lights. Thanks for the game and the food and drinks after the game went down well.

Good for kedron. Really love seeing this proud club do well. We played kedron in a practice match in preseason and was great to see them playing really positive footy.
