Watched my Broady get beaten by UQ today... Whilst credit to UQ, Broady were just not in the hunt today from the very first bounce, was a terrible game to watch on that small oval number 7 as they call it

Saw some of morningside v pbc today. Both sides played some decent footy and given the result yesterday with lab getting done it could be a good finals series. Both sides worthy finalists.

Have to admit the comp has evened up nicely this year, which has surprised me. I though lab morningside then daylight but to grange and magpies credit they have improved out of sight this year. And palmy on their day dangerous.

Very disappointing year for my cats just have not been able to get it going all year, and not deserving of finals. no disrespect to UQ well done to them but that result yesterday shouldn't really happen. Enough experienced players out there to do better.

Agree, good to see the comp making teams earn their keep every week. What is the problem at the cattery? Up and down season beating the unbeaten team at the time and losing to the spooners??

I think Morningside will lift come finals, big time players stand up in big time games, and they have the most expierianced group for finals footy, grange and magpies could steal an upset through sheer toughness and tackling as Labrador and M/side are classy skills teams.

You've gotta wonder what those blokes were banging on about last year, when they were saying the comp was stuffed and too lopsided. I'm glad I wasn't one of them.

Would it really be an upset if the 2nd placed team defeated the 3rd placed team?

Grange also have better form than Morningside, who have beaten up the bottom sides but largely struggled against the other sides in the Top 4.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Morningside go out in straight sets to be honest. Good talent, but poorly coached - see ball, get ball, kick ball. The other 3 sides that make up the Top 4 have noticeable structures and playing styles, and both Labrador and the Magpies in particular have shown a pretty good 'plan B' as well, while Grange 'Plan B' appears to be to get numbers behind the ball and flood, which can be effective - but it has made for some poor viewing!

Have to admit only seen Morningside once but didn't think it was a case of basic footy being played QAFL. Thought their run out of defence was their mantra but if the ball gets turned over on the way out then exposed behind it - probably need to work out who actually stops in the back 50. Sometimes a basic plan is what is required too depending on personnel. If you have a couple of gun fwds then you really just want to get it in there asap. If your skill set isn't great then why try to play keepings off?
Where will the QAFL finals be played could be an influence I imagine ie big, open grounds vs tighter space. Good to see a really competitive final 5 though. Would magpies be the real surprise packet here based on early season predictions?

I imagine they have surprised even themselves you'd have to think.

They weren't that far off it last year, but once finals were out of reach they put the cue in the rack. They were in the race 3/4 way through the season.

Getting Luke Scott back to the club was always going to have an impact, one of the better players in the competition. Callum Carseldine is essentially a new recruit given I think he only played 2 or 3 games last year? Alex Dickfos coming back is also handy. 3 or 4 crucial inclusions like that to a a mid table side can often make all the difference.

they probably get more out of their NEAFL listed players than other clubs too.

1st week of finals. If Magpies finish 2nd which they should then their home final will be played on the back oval of Yeronga. Magpies home ground ruled unsuitable for finals is the mail. They deserve to host the final at Chelmer. Assume be a huge home crowd.
Finals at Yeronga on the Fri night and Sunday. Qafl don't want traffic on the main oval on the Sat.
Embarrassing once again just like last years GF if the mail is correct.

If thats correct, its a complete joke.

If its good enough for a home & away game, it's good enough for a final.

Toil hard all year to earn the right to host a final and then get punted to the back oval at Yeronga, and lose all associated revenue as well.

If Morningside finish 2nd and their ground was a bit patchy, you can be sure this wouldn't happen to them.

If Sherwood's ground isn't up to scratch, then there is no way Yeronga's ground is. I am surprised no one has been killed playing on that cricket pitch !!

I actually think home finals should be locked in, assuming grounds are in reasonable condition up to GF day where you have the neutral oval. The reward for effort at this level can be a nice pay day for the higher ranked club. If it is good enough for home finals at the top level (AFL) then pretty sure it is good enough at our level.

Yep, not only do they hold clubs to ransom on what are subjective measures - they charge them a couple of grand to host a game they earnt via a season of hard work.

Sounds familiar !!
