Interested in what will happen to Matera. Couple of years ago he would have had some trade value, I think WC attempted a trade but GC asked for too much.

Now his value is less, but a club like WC has a stacked forwardline.

Likewise Fremantle has gun small forwards with talent waiting.

He can be trained to chase and tackle, but his injuries are what concern

Someone like Richmond would need a Matera type. I know he is from WA but i doubt he will be able to go there. If he wasn't so lazy he could be one of the top small forwards.

Fishy's one of my biggest disappointments
I think the media and everyone who isn't a Sun supporter were seduced in the first couple of seasons by occasional flashes of brilliance by a few players that actually masked the fact they were playing unaccountable footy at the time
Now they've been found out

For what we'd get for him we're better off running him into the ground during the off season. He's been exposed and hopefully someone with any self respect will respond. If he lopes around next year we really don't lose anything as this draft looks thin.

I agree

It's basically Dixon or Tippett now - so I would only go after Tippett if we happened to lose Dixon (which I doubt we will)

I am not a fan over overpaying (some Scottish blood in my family) but if Tippett was the target if we lose Dixon I would pay Dixon 750 rather than Tippetts 900K contract.

I agree that I think Dicko will stay but if not we should be backing 2MP as his replacement.

He could be a good player and it burns a bit seeing great WA kids at GC underperforming. If they aren't in WA at least have a crack at GC.

I think we need to back in Rocket for this off-season - for both the trade period and the training regime. Guys like Matera and McKenzie have the talent. If they are traded then Rocket thinks they can't or won't respond. If they are kept around and have a big and positive offseason, then a big rebound is possible.

Worth the risk, since they are under contract anyway and trade value relatively low. We are already going to be moving on from at least 6 players (meaning 5 draft picks) plus adding a couple more rookies. Plenty of turnover/change as it is.

I actually think that Fish Matera has been putting in the effort the last few weeks - but he lacks the leg speed at the moment to be dangerous. He has short distance quickness but does not chase anyway down. Would like to see him drop some muscle and weight overall and see how he goes then. Looks a bit 'muscly'. As with all small forwards, you first need to be able to kick goals when you have the ball (tick for Matera) but then you need to either be a dangerous tackler and someone who can lock the ball in, or be able to push up the ground and get the ball on the wing. He is not able to do enough of either at the moment. If he can increase either his speed or his tank/effort, I think he can be a good player.

no way he commands 900k now...he had a good final in Adelaide which bumped his price up. Would think the 500-700k mark would suffice now, similar to Dixon. Unless either start kicking over 50 goals, they are not worth anymore than this.

The Charlie Dixon thread has people all over it saying they can confirm Dixon has agreed to terms with the Lions 4 years at 700k a season..

Watch this space.

Go over to the north board and view there David Swallow thread from a few years back , some cracking posts with some posters with inside knowledge that he was all sewn up at Arden St.

To be honest I think Sam Day has a lot to give I just reckon he would be better down back than forward.

I saw the post before and I have made some changes to who was in which list and some comments

Ablett
Bennell - an obvious talent but needs to produce consistently
Day - I think he needs to be given a run of games in a position to show what he can do.
Dixon - I am beginning to doubt his brain but not his football talent
Kolo
Lemmens
Lynch
Martin
May
Miller - One of the real positives for our year
Omeara
Prestia
Saad - plays with heart like this will be his last game, pity more don't do the same
Swallow
Wright
Garlett
Boston
Glenn
Hallahan - has taken time but I think he is someone who has a real future
Rischa - Auto correct keeps on changing him to "Risotto!"
Thompson

Most Likely keep (Only trade if the price is right)
Harbrow - I am over just how often he butchers his disposal and it creates a turnover
Lonergan - I would like to keep
Malceski - Won't go unless he has a chronic injury as it would make the recruitment people look like fools!
Matera - I think he will go unless his back half of the year is something special

McKenzie - I think he will go unless his back half of the year is something special
Shaw - I think he will go unless his back half of the year is something special
Smith - has talent but just seems to lack the presence or a bastard streak
Gorringe - Needs to play a run of games so we can see what he has to offer

Like most fans I am likely to be more brutal than the club will be but I am disappointed by the lack of passion displayed by many of our players.

Don't mind Selwood as a player but I believe he is a free agent at the end of the year so don't think we could trade for him. Would think he would either stay at WCE (given his stock is at a low) or try to get his way to Geelong or possibly a Melbourne club.
