Wasn't Gorringe drafted as a forward?
With Smith and Nicholls already there you may be right. He did play well against the Power as the sole ruck last year. He actually went alright against Melb this year in the 2nd half against Jamar. Problem is he's no good when resting up forward.

He really lacks the desperation needed atm , not sure if it will improve.

Lol at
Fat pizza's comment. april2 2012

Gorringes performance in round 1 brings to mind the old saying.. Built like Tarzan played like Jane.
Dan was shifted all over the place forward ruck.. Down back but still only managed 1 kick 2 marks and 7 handballs..
I'm sure his capable of a lot better then this..

Well Fat Pizza 3 years on.. You were wrong.. He still averages about the same lol.. Bloody hopeless..

  • Convincing Dixon to stay
  • Trade spuds (e.g. Russell, Matera, McKenzie, Gorringe) that are performing poorly, have exhibited poor attitude and are still contracted for 2016 to free up list spots and cash for experienced players or resigning our good players
  • Convince a couple of quality experienced players (e.g. S Selwood) to come play with us
  • Potentially convince an out-of-contract player (e.g. Aish) to come to us
  • Retain and hit pay dirt on our top 3 draft picks
  • Try and replicate what he did this year in the rookie draft
I love seeing other people's opinions on here that are so passionate about our club. I acknowledge that I probably have an opinion that differs with a lot of other people's but it makes for good discussion anyway.

The first step to fixing a problem is to recognise that you have a problem. Big tick for Rocket on that.

It is now up to the club to demand high performance, to bring in support staff that will get a lot more out of the playing group, to bring in good players, and to give players the opportunity to develop. It is up to the players to drive a culture where close enough is not good enough.

All of this is possible and a massive turnaround into next season is possible.

And accomplishing all of the list above is possible as well. Although I doubt we will be able to trade any contracted players - a couple of them have 2 years left after this one. And it sure looks like the out-of-contract Gorringe will not get anything back in trade, unless he is part of a larger trade package.

A big problem with the culture stems from the fact that the team is located on the Gold Coast and the players seem to have dined out on that football anonymity, low level of public accountability and relatively low expectations. You need players that have a high degree of self discipline and self motivation (e.g. Saad and Miller) to get the most out of themselves. This wasn't helped by the original sin of the players they got from the start had question marks over their football character - Brennan, Brown, Krakour, as opposed to GWS who got players who were past it but solid citizens with work ethic - McDonald, Cornes, Power - who taught the kids the right way to go about it.

Eade will want to bring a few of his own guys in next year. All he has is Lappin so far. Hopefully the AFL opens their war chest and give us some more coin for some more development coaches if that is what is needed.

I agree no other club would want these list cloggers on their lists the only way I can see us offloading them is if we:

1. gave them up for nothing - swap for 6th and 7th rounders;
2. giving other team sweeteners to take them - swapping picks
3. including them in bigger deals as a set of steak knives.(e.g. Dixon trade if he wants it or 3 team trade deals)

Whately and Robbo on AFL 360
Just talking about Dixon..
Gerrard doesn't rate him.. Robbo says his seen Dixon demolish teams by himself..! Not many big guys plan do that.. Wouldn't be surprised if his the premier full forward for the next 7 years..

And Gerrard mumbles 'won't be at the Suns'

Then was a new subject..

Think he knows something??

Gerrard would be very tight with Bluey in his new role as ABC radio special comments bloke
I'm sure there's leakage a plenty from Metricon at the moment

There is no surer bet in the AFL right now than Josh Hall being delisted at the end of this season. Sumner has already retired so you really only need to delist one more player outside of those two. Having said that, I think it's fair to say Saad will get upgraded which will require two delistings/trades. So who goes? Presuming no one wants to be traded, I would guess Aaron Hall and Gorringe get delisted. Then three draftees then come in.

So what about free agents/players traded in? The only one we really know the club has gone after is Aaron Sandilands. Other ruck options probably include Tippett (on a far lower salary) and Hale but maybe Brooksby will kick on as the second ruckman so that won't be required. I would think Rocket would want some midfield depth given how things have played out this season. So who do they chase? Dangerfield is unrealistic and there isn't really any other mids available through free agency. You probably just draft more midfielders.

Just saw Sandi recommited to Freo over the weekend. So squash that. Maybe Minson on a 2 year deal.

Whatley is one of the few that I respect as a AFL journalist due to his calm and well thought out nature, so he wouldn't make a comment (even mumbled) without something to back it up)

Getting nervous..
Always new this time would come..
But would of rather they pinched Stanley or Harbrow lol :(
We knew clubs were going to come at us, if Dixon decides to go then while I would be disappointed if I had to pick between Dicko and Lynch I would keep Lynch.

As am i..
4 weeks ago he wasnt marking or getting 2 tackles a game..
Now his getting around 8 tackles and maybe a handful of contested marks..
Progress!!!
Unlike Smith.
once he puts a little bit more size on and ups his aerobic capacity, he will be a legit ruckman

Is charlie dixon worth 3million..??
Probably not but we're living in an age in which teams have become desperate. Look at the Bulldogs' offer to Boyd last year as an example. Brisbane don't seem to care whether a player is a free agent or not. They threw big money at a contracted Dayne Beams and it worked out. Now they are throwing big money at Charlie Dixon who is not yet a free agent. List management is a cut throat industry and if you don't want to pay one of your best players then someone else will.

The numbers dont add up compaired to all the other Key Forwards.
Gunston Cameron walker etc

The inability to land key forwards is pushing their price up.

If you can get one, you need to cough up. That's just how it is and how it will be. It's either that or sell the farm to get a pick when a KPP comes up in the draft. Why would any club do that now when you can get a bloke ready made and don't necessarily need to compromise your list?
