Without having to do the heavy lifting as much this could free up Beams to go forward more. What's the chances he isn't in the 4 and lines up at half forward?

A little known fact is that Jared's name in full is actually Jared Commissioner Jansen ... so this guy is probably his mother's father (maternal grandfather).

I think Clarke's improvement with the ball in hand has been underestimated by some. He still has a long way to go but I think he can play that role of turning defence into attack effectively. It takes quite some time for naturally defensive players to bring that side of their game out and then make it effective.

Merrett and Clarke do share many of the same attributes and weaknesses but I think Clarke will eventually be the better, more well rounded player, much as I like Rog's contribution over the years.

Blooding McStay down back for the long term will compliment the spoiling power of sauce and clarkey, such a strong leap and mark. As handy that would be in the forward 50, McStay and Andrews can run riot down back retaining the footy.

It would appear with their delayed starts (extensive time in rehab group) that Gardner, C Beams, West and Green won't be fit come round 1 (or at least won't be match fit), so that makes team selection a little easier for mine. All of those names to come back via the 2's giving time to names like Cutler, Dawson etc (instead of Gardner who for many would of been borderline anyway although I rate him highly)

Bench doesn't mean much these days. Players rotate so often but if you would prefer a small(Bundy) over a tall(McStay) starting in the forward line for structural purposes fair enough.

As for Cutler over Harwood I like that change. To be honest I am finding it very difficult to seperate the likes of Cutler, Dawson and Harwood at the moment. That decision should be made clearer after the NAB Cup and we might have a front runner after tomorrow's intra club match. Leppa did say today that Cutler was among those who have trained really well this pre season though so he might be the front runner currently.

Has to make some big running gains I suspect. He may have got an early crack with the sub rule but he doesn't have that option now.

Back half....particularly half backs, too fragile for mine.Cutller and hopefully Gardiner need to be there, and as Leppa stated, McStay's cards are marked back half, as they should be.
