AFL isn't Australian Rules.

IRC The AFL was trying to take ownership of the game as a whole a few years ago when they forced most minor and country leagues to be branded under the AFL trademark. WA and SA leagues didnt budge and well world domination didnt occur.

Agree with your post btw.

Just a few more to my list

* AFL admits to making a mistake in the massive trade which sent Jaeger O’Meara to Hawthorn - This one is grating, we all know the reason why.
* Hawthorn entertaining umpires inviting them to off season trips, paying for accommodation and telling palyers to be extra matey with them. It might look like nothing but this falls under intergrity issues. But not even mentioned in the vic centric media.
* Allowing a club president to wear a presidents hat and being a major player in the media.

* AFL setting up a think tank into future ways to market the game, rewarding the team 10k for the best idea they come up, announcing it to the media and then being sued by a company who pitched the same idea a few years earlier which the team leader stole and didnt tell Gil pickle.

Club memberships at record levels, AFL revenues at record levels, biggest Grand Final viewership in a decade, many other viewing records broken including record for the first week of finals.

If people are disillusioned they need to come up with a better way of showing it, pronto.
I think you are confusing good smart marketing with clean ethical management. If you want an example of a brilliantly marketed sport then the Melbourne Cup is world class. The marketing of racing is in the penthouse while the management of the sport is in the out house.

Don't see a problem with GC refusing to trade Gaz (other than not getting the storyline of Gaz going back to Geelong). He is their best player and they payed him too much to let him go now - especially to a top 4 team from last year.

Imagine if in year 6 Buddy asks if he can go back to Hawthorn?

Strange and sad. In a way we dodged a bullet didn't we.

If he hadn't left us his career wouldn't have flatlined like it did. Still feel we should have tried harder to keep him.

Here is a list i made last week of how bad the AFL has become:

* Didn't have the courage to suspend a whole club that was doping because they didn't want to upset the goose that lays golden eggs in terms of Essendon and the money they bring into the league and to the club. Do i have to remind everyone how the then boss of the AFL rang up one of Essendons major sponsors himself?

> "Back in 2013 when the scandal first surfaced, then AFL boss Andrew Demetriou took the step of phoning KIA to reassure the major sponsor about Essendon’s situation and the club has put an enormous premium on communicating with their sponsors"

* Have had chairman's who have also sat on the boards or were bosses of companies that had contractual agreements with the AFL. Spotless with Ron Evans and ANZ Stadium in Sydney with Mike Fitzpatrick.

* No courage to strip a convicted drug cheat of a medal bestowed to the "fairest and best player"

* Essendon fans still flocking to a club that instigated a doping program and wilfully handing over high amounts of money in both merchandise and memberships. Standbyhird

* Terrible drug policy where a player has 3 opportunities to get away with taking drugs

* Suspends a club for no reason because they signed one of the best players in the league in what is now becoming the norm (Tom Boyd going to bulldogs was hailed as courageous from the brave dogs, Sydney signing Lance Franklin was nothing more than cheating)

* COLA

* A fixture that accommodates the top Victorian teams. When was the last time the hawks had to travel to Geelong? Or how about Collingwood? Or Essendon? Here's an idea! How about getting all those teams to play away games on their home grounds? Brilliant! More money to rich clubs! Brilliant!

* Asks the biggest drawing clubs before they release the "fixture" who they want to play to maximise profits.

* Forcing sides from WA to travel to Brisbane one week and then Tassie the other week, while Collingwood etc have to travel a few kms for "away" games.

* A "national" comp that has only been won by 1 non vic side in the last decade. Funny enough the last time we saw a non victorian GF the media went into overdrive with crazy narratives about holding a summit into why there's no vic teams playing. Heres [Ron Barrassi having a whinge about it](http://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/not-good-for-footy-barassi/story-e6frf33l-1111112224932). Hmm coincidence that its been all vic teams winning since then? The mind ponders.

* Grand Finals played at the homeground of top victorian teams, even when a team from the other side of the country finishes higher than a vic team. Tradition! The thing is, all GF is filled with 70% corporate people and only a small % of fans from each team competing.

* Introducing an artificial team at the expense of the whole league. Giving this team 3 years worth of talent. Manipulating the draft to accommodate said team. I really hope GWS clean up just to see the massive bitterness from you idiots

* A code that has shown this year its prepared to help the high drawing clubs by manipulating the draft for them. Hawks and Geelong anyone? No 2 year ban for them!

* A code that see's no reason to make its officials, full time, while sports betting is the main sponsor. Hmmm shady men in dressing rooms indeed.

* A code that is bending over backwards to appease sports betting.

* Racism is rife amongst the supporter group. As recently as this year supporters were still being evicted because of racism.

* Homophobia is the reason why not 1 single AFL player has come out unlike the NRL or other codes.

* The code is riddled with misogyny and even when a womans league is introduced this billion $ cashed up league cant even pay the woman a decent wage. Nothing but more tokenism.

* Woman have had to fight to be on football boards. On TV theres 2 woman on all football shows (none on the McGuire produced TV shows) and even then they are hated by the blokey blokes who watch this code. Compare that to the A-League and NRL where they have had woman in hosting duties for nearly half a decade. Even cricket now has woman involved.

* Only recently a bunch of blokes on radio joked and threatened to kill a female journalist. Thats right folks, kill. "Har har I'll keep holding her down Eddie..i'll do it!"

* Sam Newman

* Treats its indigenous in a token manner with a fancy dress up party once a year where white people tell indigenous how they should behave, which basically translates too "Entertain me with dazzling footy and keep ya indigenous issues outta my face".

* Literally racially boo’d one of the greatest players the code has ever seen into retirement and told him to never ever come back. The way Adam Goodes was treated by the Neanderthals AKA football supporters was the worst case of racism in sport I have ever seen in my life. I have followed a lot of codes and while there have moments in-game in these codes where fans have been pathetic, nothing pales in comparison to the racially motivated hate that forced him to retire. Disgusting.

And those issues are off the top of my head. I am sure if i spend more than the 5 mins i did thinking that up I can produce a 5 page document.
Superb! Nailed it.

That corporate genius Mike Fitzpatrick on the board of a company lost 42 million of other people's money last financial year. Fitzpatrick, an engineering graduate, who made his "name" by getting in on the ground floor in the superannuation "industry" and pooling other people's hard earned pennies for generous gains has not had a good year anywhere.

Malceski was a good player for us. Won't forget his goal that sealed the GF in 2012 and his BOG against Port in 2010 was his best game for us, always remembered that one too.
He really was a great player. I remember when he came back after the recos and was quite jittery for a season or two. Didn't expect him to make it back to AA form and become a GF matchwinner for us. I can't begrudge him his $650K a year retirement package at the Suns. The swans ultimately couldn't match it and we need to remember his earning capacity thru his career was greatly reduced due to injury.
