Awesome effort. Stole this from reddit, graph of membership numbers since 1984:

probably not being able to get a finals ticket.
On this, we're still playing finals at ANZ right?

As much as that might suck as we won't get a proper HGA, the crowds should hopefully be strong and make the atmosphere better.

Probably means anyone who doesn't pay for an automatic GF ticket miss out though :( Parents are away in September so I dunno if we go anyway, but still it sucks as my parents weren't willing to pay up in 2012 and we missed out in 2014.

My dad bought me a Swans scarf in 1987. No idea I was wearing approximately 1% of the club's revenue around my neck at the time. :p

That graph really shows the Lockett effect. And the Buddy effect is a pretty good faximile. I think supporters become members because of hope and an expectation of competitiveness rather than as a reward to the club for Premiership glory. We pretty much plateaued after 2005 to 2011 - and that was the greatest period of success in the club's history to that time. Looks like we signed about 5k in extra members for being Premiers in 06 and the same or even less in 2013.

It's also looking to be the second year in a row that we're on track to have more members than "Big 4" Carlton (although in fairness that's as much to do with their performance as ours).

We're taking one of dad's mates to his first AFL game this weekend, if the boys put on a good show I'm hoping we might be able to get him signed up for a cheeky 3 game membership :thumbsu:
Shout him a few frothies and take a membership form and pen with you.

Thanks Sketi. That's amazing. Clearly, playing in the 96 GF was our biggest success. You can see the then fickle Sydney supporters jumping off the bandwagon due to our limited success afterwards. This was blamed on the culture of Sydney people at the time but it would now appear that the Swans have changed that culture. I thought there would have been a bigger up swing after 2005.

Would be interesting to know how many are now 2nd generation from a Sydney fanbase, maybe we've been breeding really really well:p

In 10 years the Sydney/South Melbourne Swans Football Club will be the powerhouse of the AFL!
Eddie will be irrelevant.
Buddy will be in his last year!
Tippett will be our coach with Jenkins his assistant.
We will have 120,000 members.
At least 2 Victorian teams would have relocated, folded or merged.

Wonder how many reserved seat memberships are left...
Do people who already have reserved seat memberships get to keep them for as long as they'd like? Cos otherwise....

I have copied one of the comments about the July 2012 post of South's move to Sydney (from Lakeside Swan's link in post #160) below. Couldn't help smiling when I noticed the bolded text.

A lucky break for SMFC.

My favourite memory of the early days is the three consecutive 30 goal matches in 1987.

A pity they couldn’t go back to back in 2006. Old Sth were runner up in 34,35 and 36 after winning 1933, hope Sydney don’t have to wait as long for there next.

That is a interesting point and one i posed on the footy industry board, Both WA clubs have waiting lists for memberships and the highest prices in the country, with 50,000 plus members how long before the SCG is pretty well sold out with perhaps only crappy seats left.

The SCG members takes away some seats, i think a couple of thousand must be left for walk ups and opposing clubs, i wonder how many seats are actually up for sale and how many have been sold ?, and how many are left and how many decent seats are left ?.
