So I just got back from popping down to training. As mentioned, the footy's were out from the get go. As expected on the first day back the skills were pretty ordinary at times, although to be fair it was a bit windy. They had this half field drill with the ball starting on one wing, kicking to a target, following up your kick, switching it to the other wing, who would then hit the leading target. Anyway, I watched Tommy Bell exclusively for a while coz there were some queries on his skills. In 7 consecutive disposals he hit the target once. And it wasn't the 5 metre handball, he missed that too. I'd give him some leeway as it's the first day back, but boy, he's got some work to do.

Then on to the running - 6 x 3min max effort runs with a 2 min rest. ie a brutal interval session. Bell, Paps and Robbo were the standouts. Bell was in a different group to the other two so it was a bit difficult to tell who the winner was, but Paps was consistently beating Robbo by about 5 to 10 metres including the last one where they had a big sprint finish and Paps got the win.....and then brought up his lunch.

As for the others, Josh Clayton was pretty impressive, only about 30 metres back from the leaders and JJ was pretty good too (as previously mentioned). A few others such as Cutler, Watts, Close and Andrews did pretty good in the first 2 or 3 and then crashed and burned.

As for the guys that were struggling, Lewy Taylor was way back with the coaches and poor, old Archie Smith got beaten by everyone, except the endurance beast that is Ben Hudson, who looked like he was just jogging alongside him for support, but could have taken off if he wanted to. That's probably not a good sign for the young fella.

Anyway, they'd just started some 3/4 pace 100m runs when I had to take off.

Til next time

Legend, thank you. How did you do it?

Went to it on the Lions TV channel on YouTube and just copy the URL. The the lions website link is using an embedded player that doesn't really provide a simple URL to paste here.

Cheers. That was the issue, tried to do it off the Lions site.

Can't really add much to these reports. I thought Bell was the clear standout in the running drills, he set the standard early. Paps must have spewed again because he did so in front of me without breaking his stride. Clayton was really good with his running as well.

I think Paine went down injured during the first kicking drill (not sure what sort of injury).

Glad others are heading a long to training, saves me trying to remember stuff!

Has Tommy Cutler put on some kg's? That guy is the man to watch for me, picking a break out year
